Maybe the repeating arcs gimmick will be present but in a very different way.

-The whole thing is a virtual simulation.

-The military is trying to access the 5th dimension and mess with alternate realities.

-The balls of lights we see in the OP are the characters' souls or something similar to that, and they can go back in time possessing their past selves.

-5th dimensional aliens are fucking involved somehow. This would tie Higurashi (the 5th dimensional alien species Hanyuu is a member of), Umineko (the 5th dimension/meta space inhabited by a bunch of meta-beings who only pretend to be witches in Umineko but are CLEARLY not) and maybe even RGD (the random disaster that altered history is fucking suspicious and could be caused by either a meta-being or the military from the future using 5th dimensional technology, and the world in Ciconia could easily be a continuation of RGD).

Why do some people (mostly anime-only fags) claim that Higurashi got ruined when Hanyuu was changed from a god to an alien? It never "changed" like that.

-Arc 6 introduces the alien theory as foreshadowing
-Arc 7 introduces Hanyuu and the meta-space, and gives you no explanation about her origins whatsoever
-Arc 8 all but confirms that she and her tribe were metaphysical aliens in at least 3 scenes + the very last TIP after the ending
-Arc 9 doubles down on it and makes it even more painfully obvious. It also explains that Hanyuu is basically the wandering ghost of a meta-alien and can perma-die whenever she wants (the Hanyuu from the Saikoroshi world is actually dead because she was satisfied with the state of Hinamizawa and decided to pass on)

I understand someone not liking the magic characters introduced in that one relatively comedic and probably non-canon Hou arc because it changes the tone of the story or whatever. But Hanyuu's origins were never "changed". The anime just skipped all of her backstory and even her character arc, turning her into a cute plot device that doesn't seem to fit in the story. And the VN requires Umineko levels of reading between the lines, which isn't really that much but could go over the heads of those who take things at face value or didn't realize who Yasu was even after EP7

One of Umineko's major recuring themes was how people tend to foist their pain off onto others. What I wanted to get across before losing track and typing out this wall of text is that pedos generally imagine themselves as KIDS when they fantasize about doing anything with a little girl. Looking for advice. I read Umineko and I'm looking forward to reading Ciconia but I want to be caught up on WTC. But foolishly through browsing this thread and other places I've read some Higurashi spoilers, specifically that Keiichi is a culript and an unreliable narrator, and that like aliens or some weird secret group is orchestrating everything. I don't feel good about reading a super long VN when it seems like everything is spoiled. What do you guys recommend?

The mystery is not that important in Higurashi, and those spoilers aren't even that huge considering all the crazy shit that happens.

Many people got spoiled through the shitty barebones anime and they still enjoyed the VN immensely, because the characters are really well-written and make you feel for them.

Are the joke arcs in Rei meant to be semi-canon? The pool one happens right before the canon as fuck Saikoroshi arc, which is also an absolutely perfect ending for the story and ends Rika's story in a satisfying way. But fucking Takano shows up at the pool. She also shows up walking through the village in the arc where Rena eats the love magatama.

Are they supposed to be comedic scenarios where the status quo and usual characters are preserved but there is no underlying Takano conspiracy and everyone is what they appear to be? Or maybe non-canon joke arcs or something like the club scenes where insane shit happens but it's just an exaggeration (like Rena punching people into orbit) that didn't literally happen like that?

I mean, I could accept them as canon events that are just exaggerated for comedy. But that would also mean accepting that Takano is around. Which isn't really that weird because she's supposed to be receiving treatment at the clinic or at least that's what Tomitake claimed. But would she really be in the mood to take walk with Tomitake knowing she's in deep legal shit and will be tried in the near future?

Reading Higurashi VN for the first time. Going to point out how the anime BTFO of the VN's earlier arcs from here on out in these threads.

Current issue:

How the FUCK does Keichi think Shion and Mion are the same person for so long? They hang out so many times and Keichi is always mentioning how they are completely different every time; and even Rika mentions Mion has a sister in the VN, but Keichi still believes they are the same person after all that?! In the anime they get two/three scenes together before the reveal, and one of them is the one where Keichi is saved by Shion which can work as clever misdirection they may be actually the same person or something even more sinister is going on.

The thing I'm most hyped about is not the characters, the music, the greatly improved coloring or even the story.

It's Ryuukishi's writing itself. If you read RGD (and to some extent Higanbana too) you can tell he finally managed to polish his writing and stop repeating himself or making some scenes unnecessarily long. He also seems to be really passionate about the themes and overall style of RGD, and it really shows in what we've seen of Ciconia so far.

I bought it to read it in English and support Ryuukishi. But as soon as I find some other way to support my favorite writer, I'll won't give any money to MG again.

I lost interest in their releases when I saw that the translation quality was still abysmal, full of typos and the engine had game-breaking bugs that they didn't fix for nearly two years (like the broken credits of Meakashi). The censorship of Satoko, which wasn't censored in their old releases, was also really disappointing.

It's sad that Higurashi will never have a proper English version like Umineko. Thankfully my Japanese is quickly improving and I have everything Higurashi-related already backed up in multiple hard drives. Original releases, demos, fandiscs and Hou.

My viewpoint is that, in the real world, magic isn't real, but it is in what we consider the meta world. I've always viewed umineko's story as an actual game that Bern and Lambda are playing in their own dimension. Within that game they've created their own little universe, their game board. I've never liked the idea that it's all *just* representations of the message bottles, Tohya Hachijo's stories, and Ange's mental and emotional journey of discovering the truth.

I believe that once a personality/person is dead, then witches in the meta can freely "resurrect" it on their board and have their fun. Through all the endless fragments they stumbled across the story and decided to play with it as well as the reader.

I suppose that the illusion magic is one way to look at it, even if its not explicit, your post describes a very literal way of storytelling shown in the game.

I feeeeeeeeel like 7th expansion had a vaguer idea of what the single truth is, and the conclusions i've come to have pretty literal explinations as to what happened that day, and those dates 12 years later.
Of course, i'm always accepting the "Magic is real" ending too, i like that ending a lot

I find it really contradictory how Ryu is like "The reader needs to think for themselves to solve the mystery" during the Question Arcs,
and then actively discourages you to give up throughout the Answer Arcs, only to come to the conclusion that the mystery isn't important and the reader should just give up on it and accept magic/happiness.
I think perhaps he downplayed the mystery after first 4 arcs because he knew readers would be disappointed by the truth, but it didn't work out and he just alienated the japanese fanbase lol

There's truth and truth, Erika only wants the truth to satisfy her ego and laugh at others, Ange only wants the truth to prove that she was right about Eva, They don't care about the reasons behind the mystery. I misread your post, but I still don't see how this contradicts "The reader needs to think for themselves to solve the mystery", both when applied to the literal mystery/game aspect and the "mystery" aspect from picrelated. There is nothing wrong with me. I just like both the Higurashi VN and the anime. And I am tired of people always dismissing the anime, when it did stuff better. This sister confusion plotline is overall really dumb, but in the anime without the scene of Keichi asking his friends about Shion it was just a nitpick. With that scene it crosses the border of being downright stupid. It's hard to take this story seriously when the characters are going to act this dumb for the sake of the story.

I don't want to play the Devil's Advocate but the story only works if you see it from Beatrice's perspective. She is really one of the characters that inspire me the most in all of fiction.
