Apparently you can also play 1.02, which gives the actual production values, and whatever the heck this SLG part is, but otherwise has certain parts of the scenario and CG not available. Probably those parts that have no voice acting in this version, or are generally weird/unfinished.

I always wanted to check out LN, but when I looked into the thread, only the super typical/popular isekai things were being talked about, or so it felt like. Basically the stuff I don't care about. It's only natural that what's popular (isekai) and got an anime adaptation will get more talk, I mysellf read mostly popular stuff aside from series not widely know but who have only one or two volumes so I don't feel like wasting my time if they're not worth it.

Even on 5ch or futabachan what people talk the more about are popular stuff.
/vn/ is more strange in this way, I'm always suprised at how much you guys can talk about rare/old games no one even heard about, probably because most of you have been playing vn for years now and I'm into the medium since 1 year and a half.

Go read Iriya no Sora if you want to see some of the best writing in the medium. It even has a DS version that you can emulate to get a pseudo VN (though it has a shitty font, but I didn't mind after a while).

As someone who posted quite a few times in the LN thread and was trying to keep its first incarnation alive, I unpinned it when people started posting about licensing and translations and shit in there. I don't wanna hear about Yen Press or whatever the fuck
I read novels a lot more than eroge so it's a shame we can't have somewhere to discuss them with fellow English speakers but I guess it's just too niche among foreigners. Even in the first thread a lot of people were complaining about not being able to use their popup dictionary with scans or a paper book. VNs are probably a lot more accessible for people with poor Japanese

Finished Chiwa route for Sakura, Moyu so I figured I could share some thoughts here. It was longer than I had anticipated but overall very good with high emotional tension throughout. The characters introduced in the route were extremely well developed Nacht best dad and the real mvp and it definitely delivered many feels up to the end with an amazing epilogue. There is still a lot of the world and lore that remains unexplained about the night world and its denizens as this route touched upon only a few aspects of it but I assume the other routes will cover them eventually.

Chiwa was extremely cute and a good girl that deserves all the happiness in the world. The route could have used a few more CGs but I guess they had to save the budget for the true route. The writing style leans more towards an actual novel as it is very text heavy with a lot of narration so I can see why people said it felt long compared to other VNs which usually tend to be more dialogue focused.

Hoping the rest of the routes will be good as well and Kuro is still best girl.

The comedy in Akagoei was great don't get me wrong though it had an over-reliance on shit (especially Tsuki's ones). It had some cool characters in there too and I'm sure that it'll be the case for the upcoming game too.

I'll admit that I'm super-biased when it comes to anything Akagoei related as I'm used to be a TLC in one of its fan translation project.

The amount times that I had to get drunk/high (crappy translators that needed another 2~3 years learning the language + amount of jokes that seemed impossible to convey) on that project made me look at everything related to it with a more negative-bias now.

If you are talking about digital, DL editions in Japan are overpriced, that's true, but that has different reasons. In fact, plenty of games still don't have those day 1. A lot of companies release them a month or even more later. They make them deliberately unattractive. Don't ask me why though.
I don't think this happened with console games in the past, which were cheaper than physical, but I dunno how it looks now.

Finished the new 9-nine-. What a meta ending/cliffhanger that was. Hope they handle it well in the next (and probably last?) episode.

Also finished 9Haruiro here.

It was okayish, though left somewhat lukewarm last impressions and definitely lowered my expectations for the fourth episode a bit. In general the motivations for many characters were really weak (so far at least), and girls wise this episode’s main heroine simply wasn’t as entertaining as Sora in previous one, but that was to be expected as nothing could realistically beat that banter. Haruka's switcheroo thing didn’t end up getting used in interesting ways either in plot or characterization department. I was originally expecting more differences or even interaction between normal and Queen-mode, maybe even do something akin to a dual-heroine route, but alas. No switches in the middle of H-scenes either, like you quite literally had ONE JOB, guys.

More plot-related complaining: The past bullying thing also felt really weak and the whole murder issue was already executed better in second episode with Ghost who’s an actual character and not just a spriteless extra. Though of course in retrospect she likely doesn’t actually die there. The final stinger was also crappy and it’s not like we haven’t already seen a similar plot element done a million times in this medium. I mean, was that sort of thing really necessary?

At least the one battle scene was pretty great and as one small presentation related point, I really liked the reload-like sound effect accompanying「記憶をインストールする」choices. Though as a general complaint regarding that, if you’re going to incorporate choices as an in-universe plot element I’m really starting to think the game would’ve been much better off as a full title with more choices sprinkled around, rather than episodic. Let’s see how they handle it in the fourth one. The series has been pretty good so far about not endlessly dragging on the re-reveal of previous routes’ stuff and twists, so I’m expecting they’ll have the protagonist understand everything right from the beginning of fourth episode.

Is there any way to prevent certain VNs from pausing when they're not selected?
I tried a script to have them always on front of everything else but it doesn't fix the problem, CPU usage still goes to 0%. It's not a big deal per se but it feels unnatural to have the music stop if I ever need to alt tab to look at something else.
