As far as I can tell no. Besides one comment on the wiki saying they got buffed without any citations or explanations back in 2016.
Their nerve arrow can be quite painful if you have no nerve resistance. Especially in the early game when you have quite a bit less than their 200 speed. Combined with the Eye of Stiffen which can apparently lock your character still for a few turns at least.

By time I came across them in the most recent version, at about level 40 something doing a level 52-55 dungeon, I already had Resist Nerve at Strong #### and active speed at 160 so they were mostly fodder. No need for buffs, special ammo, or special actions at all, even.

You're probably getting demolished due to stunlock + speed advantage. It's not that much different from trying to fight a Grass Dancer.

If it makes you feel any better, the Grass Dancer is lower level than the Cockatrice, seven times as fast, and has two abilities that can screw with you instead of the Cockatrice's one.

>> No.20923742

i have always wondered if a group of grass dancers/nyarlathoheps can beat any enemy in the game with their mass debuffs and brainwash

>> No.20923838

>>20923742
No. By early awoken, like 300 or so, you'll start seeing regular enemies resist the status effects from time to time. Grass Dancers get slaughtered very quickly by that point as well, not taking into account that Awoken dungeons are deathtraps.

20923936

Well that was kind of difficult. Brainwashing healing charming fuckers, a whole floor of them.
First time on this file I've actually had to teleport around to kill off the secondary mobs. Then also used almost all my special ammo and got pretty much locked around 0 SP, with quite low MP trying to buff/heal and running low on the few backup potions I keep on hand.

I know it definitely gets harder elsewhere. Especially with dancers and shit. But that was quite fun. A good reason to go into somewhat higher levelled dungeons beyond simple reward.

>> No.20923972

Brainwash has been the only consistently painful thing in all my playthroughs no matter what. So what can I actually do to help resist brainwash?
As far as I can see online the only thing to help prevent it is to hug pets and hope for the best. But I don't want to bother with pets at all yet.
Does Mind resistance help at all? Is there EVER equipment that negates it?
Or is my only reliable option to outspeed the fuckers?

So, I'm trying to set up my ranged pet so that if he gets trapped or otherwise can't move away from the enemy, he can at least use his ranged weapon or melee weapon as a last resort. Does this mean I need to unlock more slots for more custom AI?

>> No.20924115

>>20923885
Inner Gods will destroy a hypothetical Grass Dancer group, and a Nyarlathohep group for that matter. Most Awoken dungeon trash mobs are generally weaker than Inner Gods depending on the base level of the dungeon and even then the groups will have issues holding their own.

As far as even lower tiers go, Cthughas are generally the safest bet to run sustain tests against because of their fire spam. Grass Dancers are preferable here thanks to the cResEle and higher speed. Unfortunately FHGs (one of the other "low tier" baselines) have a physical breath which can basically wipe an entire group of Grass Dancers out, and FHGs have around 5-8x the stats of the Dancers, and are only half as fast. Against Nyarla the FHG fares even better since by default the FHG is twice as fast, doesn't care about teleporting enemies, and Nyarlathotep doesn't have the bitflag. Cthugha is definitely the easier test without dealing with custom teams and settings though, since finding them isn't hard and they're neutral.

I've been training that with eye of mind and healing spells as I go, as well as herbin food of course. But it doesn't seem to go very fast from that alone at all.
What's the fastest way to train it usually? Riding, magic capacity? Can I do that without investing time, gems, and equipment into pets?

>> No.20924325

>>20924249
You don't need pets to train Will. There isn't some magic bullet which will give you +1 Will/action, and like most stats, the fall off gets pretty substantial as higher stats require more consistent grinding, for lower returns (because enemy stats increase faster than your stats do). If minimizing grind is what you're after, then honestly you're better off giving up on Will and focus on capping speed instead.

>> No.20924354

>>20924325
Not really looking for a magic bullet. Just something to fit into my playstyle without altering it heavily towards pets or magic.
I usually do just go for speed, yeah. It eventually gets to the point where most things can't even get time in to brainwash or any other status effect.
Fairly early on having no resistance is painful so any reasonable way to get around that would be nice. But if it requires a lot of extra work that could just be put into dungeons and speed grinding then it can wait, yeah.
Thank you.

I don't think "unable to move away from target" is something that it's possible to detect with custom AI, at least normally. Maybe a sufficiently skilled autist could pull it off: complex "And" statements, buffs as makeshift RAM, a tag-team hivemind AI?
Personally, I'd just replace Move (Away) with Dimensional Move and call it a day.

Does each do both, or is it half and half, or does it select whichever is least resisted?

Whenever a non-Exile casts a spell, the game checks to see if the spell is Fire Bolt, Ice Bolt, Fire Ball, Ice Ball, Mind Bolt, Raging Roar, Nerve Arrow, or Poison Storm. If a matching spell is cast, a variable tied to the relevant enchantment is set to the enchantment's power, which adds the paired elemental damage if nonzero. In other words, if you wear a ring that "combines fire and ice spells", Fire Ball will do extra cold damage, and Ice Ball will do extra fire damage.
If you want more technical data, search source.hsp for code where the three variables (fusifc, fusims, and fusipn) are used.

So I alt-tabbed back into the game and my computer didn't recognize that alt got released. I didn't notice this and all of a sudden was only able to move diagonally.
That's actually a nice feature. I use a similar feature a lot on console roguelites like Mystery Dungeon games, because trying to move straight diagonally without any up/down/left/right on a dpad can be quite hard at times.
Not very useful on a keyboard, but whatever. Weird way to find out though.

Knowing that's implemented kind of makes me want to try playing with a controller sometime. Maybe. Maybe not.

So there's this really, really small thing that has always annoyed me about Elona+, and I Vanilla too. And that's the chatlog when changing areas.
The log part will persist just fine, but 3 out of the most recent 4 lines still in the main chat window will be cut off and replaced with the new area, while only 1 gets fed to the log.
Thankfully to get them to show all you have to do is do 3 actions and it'll scroll them into place, so they're not lost entirely.
But that also probably makes just pushing 3 empty lines to be not a complete fix.

How does it avoid pushing the blank lines in the new window into the log, and make it align properly afterwards?
Why does it not scroll all 4 into place using the same method, whatever it may be, and wait to push new messages until it aligns?

Haven't been able to reliably stockpile any such equipment without checking over absolutely every item in every dungeon and applying a bunch of scroll of inferior material to many of them. Which is so tedious that I'd rather just grind more elsewhere.

Magic capacity does seem useful on its own, will training aside. So I do mean to train it as I go.
But the amount of time I'm fairly safe to do so without going right back into danger is slim.
Like about the only time I can justify it is if I feel the desire to completely mine out a forest map for my small acorn collection and 4leaf clovers.

I built my younger sister as a dual wielder to make use of her natural DEX, she can deal damage on par with the little girl despite having only 3/5 of her stats, but she's pretty squishy right now. House design is pretty barebones tiles though. It wouldn't stand on its own and only does good enough within the context of the rest of Elona.

Personally I think the biggest draw is the glorious roguelike combat/movement/etc in a more classic RPG setting. Like with a full overworld with towns, quests, characters, side skills, jobs, and a nicely balanced random generation of dungeons to make up the brunt of the grind.
So it's a lot of the fun of roguelike combat without the glaring masochistic difficulty and quick forsaking of in game progress, for better or worse. That is attractive in its own way, and probably the primary attracting force to the game.
Also perverse Japanese memes, to a lesser degree.

As far as I know, custom translates a lot more than E+ itself. And E+CustomG, at bare minimum, also machine translates anything left. That's about as clean and clear as you're going to get.

For the other forks, such as OO, there are limited options for English improvement. OO-En seems to be a thing?
I think there was one where some English translators actually communicated with the Japanese developers to try and correct the English upstream. But the name escapes me and I might be thinking of something else entirely.

Also, on that note, there are people who actually prefer and will go out of their way to use separate forks for restoring that engrish word soup.
I found this out today when seeing someone use such a fork and googling it [IMAGE]. And the idea really hurts my head.

You can edit any text in the game, although exactly which file you need to edit depends on the text; NPC names and chatter are in /externalize/NPCData/, generic dialogue, books, and sidequest descriptions are in /data/, but for most things (include quest dialogue and ability names) you'd need to edit the source code and recompile.

Unfortunately, other than the passive CHA bonus, you won't get whore-specific bonuses from her. She is mostly interested in your "love" potential, and will happily accept your "love" directly if you summon her (or so the manual says).

Is there a way to avoid that? I haven't kept any long term animals other than my breeder, so I don't know if just waiting longer will prevent it. I see it every time I milk, though. Usually no real class. Just plain old crossbow with a little casting spells like 4ds/healing/speed.
Running through dungeons, holding [f], and watching almost everything die, 1 by 1, before they can ever do anything dangerous, knowing how powerful I am, is so pleasant.
I keep a stock of consumables just in case for currently-far-higher-level dungeons along the way. But they rarely see use.

The easiest way to get XP up is just rush through random dungeons and smashing the boss. Mobs on the way there give some XP, but the big drops are from bosses.
Better dungeons give better XP, of course. Void is some good shit.

What levels and stats are your pets at?

I rarely bother with pets for combat. Early on they can die too easily at random if monsters get any hits in. By the time they're high enough level with good enough resistances to actually guarantee to live, I'm generally strong enough to solo whatever I want more than fine.
Though I've never actually made it to act3 yet. Surely pets become important, survivable, valuable by then. Probably far earlier.

If you want to level your character itself alone very quickly, just rush a bunch of dungeons solo.
You don't need to kill everything on every floor or anything. Just the boss really. Unless you have a problematic spawn like grass dancers or some shit, of course it helps to pick those off fast.

>Surely pets become important, survivable, valuable by then. Probably far earlier.
Team builds show return as soon as you have enough gold to start funneling, thanks to gold efficiency for pets being several times higher than it is for players. It isn't uncommon for a pet's stat ratios to be about twice to three times as high as the players without taking speed into consideration, because the pet isn't constrained by potential as far as recovery goes (since gold solves that problem).

At low pet counts, the efficiency of a single shop can mean that a pet can be sustained at 400% across the board and just walking around the map will boost the pet significantly. The survivability problem is pretty much solved within the first ten levels due to how early DV/PV works.

High pet counts are still sustainable in E+, but it becomes a more finnicky game of managing command states so that level distributions don't get lopsided, and properly using tags to control group speed. Potential recovery is actually easier for a high number team than a low number team, since the effective return of baskets increases per individual.

If your objective is to get Meshera Alpha, then prioritize clearing Act II, get the Awoken Gem, and start using it. As a team build you should already have Unison Impact, and if your pets are stronger than you, Unison Impact generally means free kills. On scaled enemies this generally means levels, assuming that your other stats are strong enough to reach the conditions for firing off UI.
If Awokens are too difficult, do it in the Void.

Yeah they're faster to level. That's never been a problem. I LOVE the grind and am fine with levelling.
>The survivability problem is pretty much solved within the first ten levels due to how early DV/PV works
For regular physical hits yeah. But those are rarely a problem anyway, outside of bash-into-the-ground titan type attacks from mobs over 50% higher level than them.
Rather, it's the elemental stuff that kills them off.
And I have no idea how to build resistances to those on pets besides just finding enough spare equipment beyond what I use for myself to sort of cover theirs. Which doesn't scale well with more pets of course.
And it's not just them dying. One file I actually bothered to train a few pets notably higher than me. They were so susceptible to brainwash/charm/whatever that it would kill me off quite often. Or some of them still failed their control magic roles and hit me with spells.

Then there's their AIs.
Like I can never figure out how to get a ranger to just range and not try to close in to melee.
Even with Custom AI with a simple distance check to cover all possible numbers to attack, it somehow doesn't know what to do with the commands.
Or potion throwers, where I can't figure out how to make them conserve anything beyond just checking for wet status which limits them to 1 potion.
I know there's an NPC in Act2 somewhere to help modify that. But I never learned how. But it's a problem until then regardless.

Like I know pets are viable. Definitely so. Powerful too.
But they're so frustrating at least at first.
Just managing myself to solo as effectively as possible is much much simpler. Going through dungeon after dungeon without needing to manage pets at all, working strictly on my stats and resistances, is incredibly straight forward.

Though because of that, I'm kind of worried about them becoming actually necessary, like something I NEED to continue, past some point. Because it sounds like such a hassle to learn to counter every single issue pets cause, even if they're faster to progress with.

>> No.20952476

>>20952406
If you're running into problems with elemental attacks and not having gear, then you're speed rushing too quickly. Team builds can't speed rush, simply because you're gearing for more than just yourself. The initial curve for the team build is actually substantially slower than the solo curve as a result of this, because you need to go for a build up in terms of gold and in terms of equipment. The first grind cycle for a team build generally doesn't even touch low level dungeons (10+), because you prioritize completing gene engineering and setting up a shop. (Puppy Cave is easy gold at effectively near no risk)

This is generally why team builds feel annoying, because the micromanagement is intense until you get to the point where you can manually control their potentials. Some team builds circumvent this by using specific pets as workarounds, like Bells for sweeping or Defenders for res support, but for the most part the early micromanagement is impossible to avoid, and delaying it doesn't really help matters (because you can only speed up the build up by so much, even with food share/baskets/shops)

Ultimately, you don't need to have pets to progress. Entire solo builds up past Act III are entirely possible, because it's strictly a stats grind, unless you're going for the Chaos Child challenge or something. Inner Gods can be soloed, near max Awokens can be soloed, it's just a matter of grinding.

As far as AI goes, if you're not using Custom, then controlling their AI is primarily done via AP or via Tag Commands (basically speed and AI pairing manipulation). The latter of which works well with "most" pets, but some (like Chaos Serpent, FGD, Elemental, and some of the Gods) are very difficult to manage even with Tag Commands.

Are extra hands for a standard 13-slot dual wielding pet worth the speed penalty?

>> No.20952562

>>20952535
Assuming peak speed for the most simple case, with enemies at equal peak speed (2000), effectively you're losing 100 speed per body part. Without knowing your effective DPS dependent on weapon, the other way to assess this is then dependent on whether you can augment the speed loss, which is generally viable through either Cheer, Pots, etc. Effectively, as long as the pet's final speed can be maintained, the penalty from having a complicated body is negligible (but demands more effort on your part to circumvent).

Otherwise, you're going to want to create a spreadsheet for the damage, and take into consideration the damage calculations for dual wielding/proficiencies, etc and gauge it against dps based on speed.

Ouch. I love pushing through dungeons as fast as possible, only picking up the best gear and items I see. Going as far as avoiding progressive dungeons to grind Puppy Cave does not sound pleasant.
>Ultimately, you don't need to have pets to progress.
Sweet.

Although combat aside, I really do want to set up some pet stuff like shops, sleep together roleplaying stuff at home, and ranches. Those do sound nice to play with and have run passively.
Just have to actually stop grinding and do something else.
Which is the real issue. Stopping the glorious rush of grind and doing other things in Elona is quite difficult. It's too FUN to ignore.

Without going into Act 2, you're stuck with either using Domination (Level dependent) or investing enough into general merchants (150+ to 200+) for higher level monster balls. With that in mind, you should be strong enough to face things like Ninjas or Camouflaged Imps. Mras and maybe Spaghetti Monsters might be too difficult to track down easily at the moment, even with the dungeon type update, just because of how monster groupings can work (and Yith being paired with problematic groups)

If you're not into the whole monster ball/domination process, you could just grind a bit more and buy a Master Thief from Derphy, though that's several tiers lower than Ninjas/Camo Imps. The important part is really just to have negotiation to start off with, everything else can technically be built from scratch, albeit requiring more effort.

Ranch is dependent on what you're trying to grind. People like to run food shops, so typically they'll go for things with heavy weight or high breed rate pets combined with high level cooking to compensate for the lower initial price. Doesn't really matter since shops can quickly ramp up in terms of profits.

Is there any limit to ranch amount?
Can I have a meme ranch full of nothing but Younger Sisters?

Are there any ranch pets that could be used to generate some kind of food to train strength or will notably? Or heck, any source of such food, not just ranch.
I kind of want to push those up without meleeing or riding. Herb stuff only does so much.

>> No.20952807

>>20952751
Ranches are effectively limited by how many pet slots you have, i.e. you can have more than 15 ranches, but some of those will be empty. Otherwise the effectiveness is dependent on breed power, which in turn is dependent on level.

Generally speaking using Ranches to boost stats is inefficient, because in comparison things like bread and noodles are easier to accumulate and stack, which removes the food source limitation from the growth equation and allows you to focus primarily on herb accumulation (Disregarding reset looping).

Herbed food gives 800 across the board. STR boosting corpses are generally around 200 - 500 peak (without taking satiety penalties into consideration). While the corpse itself might have lower Satiation, using Ranch corpses introduces Breed Power as a third limiting parameter into the equation, and even for "effective" monsters like Hand of the Dead/Nymph it becomes another factor that you have to take into account and micromanage (Without taking Potions of Descent into consideration).

While you wait for shops to stock stuff you could either go into dungeons and just clear them with bad potentials, or travel between towns doing as many listed jobs as you can handle. To get money and platinum up. It's okay to have potentials fall for a little while, while you do that.

The first point means that even top quality equipment doesn't actually sell for substantially higher compared to low quality equipment, you're not going to see exponential increases due to quality alone. The second means that because prices aren't high in NPC shops to begin with, they're going to be even lower when it comes to selling. This is compounded when notable equipment shops (black market vendors) have a further markup when it comes to prices, which isn't taken into consideration when the player sells to NPCs.

You take a single miracle item. Say a dagger. You use that in the recipe, it spits out 3 new miracle daggers, with randomly rolled properties. It doesn't split weapons into multiples of the same thing, and it's not supposed to level them up.

Is that uncommon or unreasonable? I'm pretty sure it works that way in many other RPGs, particularly TES games. Because stealing is stealing, even if who you're stealing from is completely inhuman.
Really makes me want to just savescum it though. If I didn't have a bunch of lost property saved up to take care of karma hits, and definitely wanted to pickpocket, I probably would.

Lost property isn't a good way to repair karma thanks to the check limitations. It's why the Vernis Thief Den loop fell apart. Easier to just use the Karma Quests instead since they don't have checks.

wh- which is more profitable?

>> No.20965205

>>20965073
Ranches have the start up cost of one companion slot, either a rod of domination or a monster ball, and otherwise is time dependent. The cash return doesn't become prominent until your cooking is high enough to create higher quality dishes consistently, and this assumes that you'll be selling it through a dedicated shop. Output rate is dependent on the breeder, which means that the rate isn't as consistent, but a good breeder (depending on whether you use Descent pots) can output pretty high profit levels. This eventually necessitates high levels of cooking skill. There's a bit more micromanagement involved with a Ranch to get it established compared to a Farm all in all.

Farms have a low start up cost due to seeds being easy to obtain, production speeds are relatively consistent, but both Fruit and Vegetables are generally low in profit to begin with, especially if your Cooking Skill is low or nonexistent. The Farm becomes more critical over time due to the influence of Herbs, so generally priority goes to establishing the Farm earlier so that Gardening can be built up quicker. To accumulate profits via selling Fruits and Vegetables (the most accessible seeds with the lowest variation), generally you still use a Player Shop.

As far as profits go Ranches tend to have a better returns once moderately established, since a Farm that's similarly established to used moreso for growth (Accumulating resources like Wishes, Herbs, and whatnot) than profit, but technically speaking a Farm that's geared towards profit should even out if not beat out the Ranch via volume.

Is Amurdad's artifact and turning little sisters into Kumiromi statues still the best path towards massive amounts of herbed herbs?

>> No.20965260

>>20965205
I think ranches scale with volume better. You can just fill it up with tentacle worms or whatever and then keep moving the breeder on to a new ranch, or dojo / release it when you have enough to get the companion slot back, and then all you have to do is check back on your ranch complex whenever you feel like to pick up and cook all the eggs. Farms give more GP per game time, but that necessitates a lot more micromanagement with harvesting every few days, replanting, kicking trees for fertilizer, using fertilizer, and of course how many you can have is limited by how many Kumi statues / gems you're willing to bother duplicating. You can have as many egg ranches as you like and they're more or less set-and-forget. I'd rather make money from ranches and save farming for stuff that I can't get elsewhere.

That said, >>20964872 will want to start out with a money farm, since the good seeds are rare and you don't want to be wasting herbs and magic seeds untill you have at least like 50+ Gardening.

Typically by the time that the ranch and the farm reach their peak, they're past the effective gold threshold. Granted, the threshold value tends to shift depending on build (High pet builds for instance, have a substantially higher threshold than solo builds), but generally speaking it doesn't take a peak farm or a peak ranch to hit the threshold anymore (in E+). I suppose the question becomes, is the objective to make gold for the sake of making gold, or make gold for the sake of maintaining the core grind loop? If the objective is the former, then "capped" ranches should be more effective than capped farms (since farms are limited by micromanagement whereas Ranches are limited by companion caps), but if the objective is the latter, then honestly I think they're both about the same.

The discussion probably becomes more relevant in Omake variants, since the effective gold threshold is lifted a bit higher than it would be in E+ (Even taking Fluffy Bread into account), but then Omake gets a bit more complicated with regards to gold accumulation since there are some hidden loops like overcrafted potions.

Back in the day when we used to consider "optimal" Inheritance Base runs, there was some talk with regards to optimizing Ranch runs, but even then ultimately the role of the Ranch wasn't for gold but moreso for specific items. (Since gold carry over is capped, after a while the IB character doesn't really need more gold.) As far as value goes, because of how the core grind loop is designed, it becomes difficult to argue that a Ranch is more valuable than a Farm. When we take micromanagement into account, to some extent Ranches just end up detracting away from more farms. Incidentally, for some IB runs that use Reset Loops you hit the gold threshold point extremely quickly (since some Reset Loop locations are easily several times faster than an entire set of Ranches at reaching said threshold)

Ultimately this isn't an issue of the Ranch underperforming in comparison, but rather the Farm just being too versatile (since Ranches don't directly increase herbed food production or potential pots). So while I mentioned previously that neither of the two are exclusive to one another, if it came down to a value assessment, I'd say that a Farm has higher value than a Ranch all in all.

Yes. The only thing faster is Reset Looping. Music Ticket herb farming requires too much set up effort to be comparably efficient.

Welp it cut me off. The old guide on powergaming on the wiki is still applicable (It doesn't list old grinds like Sandbag grind anymore as far as I know). I don't think it goes into detail on Music Ticket farming, that you'll probably have to do a bit of digging on warosu and read the past posts on how to do it properly (it is the standard measure for Life/Mana gain, whereas Luck is easier to gain early on.)

"Endgame" typically assumes you'll be at 2000 speed since speed is the most critical stat in the game, so it's assumed that you already have a means in mind to get there. Life and Mana are typically the most difficult stats to gain, since everything else can be obtained consistently via herbed food and other grinding.

At your stat ranges the FGH is only a problem if it's an awoken FGH (which means its stats can easily peak into the boss ranges and it can end up one shotting you before you take a turn), or if, unfortunately, you do run into a scaled FGH, which basically means it can nuke you without having to worry about any form of crowd control or status effect. The latter is more likely than the former, since the former you have to intentionally set up.

Generally speaking, Cthugha is the more terrifying of the set. Gotta love freecast Meteors.

Ranches are a good low effort way to make money. Lots of people around here recommend cooking meat and selling it in a shop, but you can make decent money by turning the meat into jerky and selling it to NPCs. It doesn't take any skills or involve any costs beyond setting the ranch up.

You can worry about your potential later.

when should one begin to consider purchasing a shop deed, progresswise?

>> No.20968502

>>20968424
Depends on which loop you're running. Generally you'll have a shop before you finish Act I unless your build doesn't have any focus on infrastructure.

Standard grind loops that don't spend excessive amounts of time in safe cycles (like Puppy Cave Loop, Reset Loop), should generally set up a shop after they've managed to properly establish either a ranch or a farm. Before that, generally speaking you're not at a point where you can sustain the shop, and early game shopkeepers aren't exactly the most efficient. Effectively the shop comes after establishing the means of production. Once you get the Ranch/Farm running properly (a stable flow of product), then you invest into the shop. Before that you only sell what you need to maintain upkeep, and preserve everything else to build stock.

Puppy Cave Loops are for extremely dedicated folks, since it's basically "farm as many scrolls of oracle by mindlessly running up and down safe floors". It isn't very efficient, but it's also safe and requires really no start up. The catch is that scrolls of oracle are efficient enough to sell to normal shops, and generally you only need it to do a basic investment cycle before you move on to more effective means. Some people will mindlessly grind Puppy Cave because it reduces the rate at which your stats grow while increasing your gold amount, and your overall dungeon level doesn't increase, which means at the end you've effectively traded time for a "head start" in gold. For people that stick to grinding Puppy Cave, a shop can be obtained at any time, it just sells products for less (either General Store or Magic Store). The only "real" benefit to a Puppy Cave Store is that there's pretty much no investment needed outside of the companion slot for a shopkeeper - you just run into wherever is safe for Puppy Cave (use a companion as a sweeper if you're too weak) and then sell everything.

Reset Loops start shops immediately after they have Pyramid access, because the Pyramid can sustain a miracle shop much faster than a Ranch/Farm can, and generally a Pyramid Cycle is around 1 minute or so in real time, and Pyramids effectively multiplies your skill growth rate early on. Vernis Loop isn't effective in this regard, because it is crafting dependent and while safe, the skill recovery rate isn't anywhere close to Pyramids. Eventually Reset Loops move on to farming Ultima instead, because she can be killed very easily early on (and Reset Loopers generally max out +15 equipment sets before level 30), but Pyramids alone is enough to break the gold threshold over the knee, so Ultima (sells corpse, evo heart, miracle+ gear) is pretty much overkill.

How does melee damage work?
Specifically, using DEX or CON weapons?

Say, using a dagger (short sword), any swing trains short sword+DEX, tactics+STR, 2h, shield or dual wield as applicable.
But despite training DEX, when it comes to damage the short sword uses STR for its modifier? (and short sword/tactics/2h)

Doesn't that make strength weapons quicker at growing damage numbers and progressing the game?
