It really depends if you will succumb to the charm of the LB characters or not.
What's refreshing with LB is that all characters are buddies and go on a blast together here and there (which, Clannad VN lacked because of the secluded heroine and support characters syndrome).

I would say, even with the usual "NAKIGE MAEDA" pattern, Clannad and LB are a tad too different to be really compared on paper.

I preferred Clannad because of its impact and long term aspect, but LB was really enjoyable, with lots of comedy (Kiniku and Anego, with haruchin going berserk at times).
The little problem with LB is that most heroines routes are a bit "ok", and most can't compete with Refrain (true route).

And Saya's route made me RAGE because it was so ambigous to the end that "good end" wouldn't be appropriate.

The best part of LB are the characters, I personally liked all of them. And what it differs the most about past Key games it's because the true route is based on friendship and not romance. What some people hated the most about Clannad, where you're obligated to settle for main heroine end isn't present in this one. Rin herself approved a harem end.

Heroine routes aren't the best thing ever, but people that played at least more than one visual novel their entire life knows this is completely normal. Usually you have one or two routes you like the most and the rest is meh. The game starts for real after Refrain.

And this game can be really funny at times.
