Probably just stems from awareness. You get a significant crit rate boost against enemies that haven't "noticed" you yet.
Similarly leveled monsters are probably going to notice you before you can attack them, whereas you can dance around lower leveled monsters for a dozen turns before they spot you.

Seems like my new loss char (27slot mutant is a real hassle nowadays, gotta say) is staring to stand on it's own 2 feet rather firmly, so I'm starting to think about next loss mode gene.

Current options are:

1. Mad professor, his beautiful daughter and an army of evolved mani's androids. (fully buffed ranged, re-skinned staves+throwing stones)
2. Somewhat mad witch with her cat familiar. (mage+melee pet)
3. Wastelander on a bike with a pet. (twohand/xbow pc, with crafted tools for dealing damage, pet is a fire dragon with shadow step and fireballs)
4. Knight with an army of manhunting rabbits. (sword and board, custom AIi'ed red-eyed rabbits with timestop spam or vopal bunnies with shadow step and uncontroll)

pv is nice until you get real armor, but they are always good for training relevant skills. If you starve for good pv, get carpentry skill on pets and make them craft armor for you. turn it into adamantine with material kit/superior material scroll, use craft repair kit to max out pv. dv may be ignored completely on armor.

Mutant looks pretty cool, but I feel I would kill myself trying to optimize it because I play rogue-like games on single life modes.

Well if you're new I think you should try to go with something simple. At least until you get the hang of the game. Then you can pass on some stuff for your next character to inherit.

As for a mutant character if you don't want to savescum for optimal parts you can choose a playstyle that won't have wasted parts. I plan to have a gunner for my planned mutant.

I think I inherited my evolution items and diaries when I tried the whole gene thing.

As a fellow loss mode mutant, i have to point out several problems with optimizing it

1. You will want to get as many extra body slots as possible for mutant
2. For maximum slots you need to not go above level2 by the end of act1 AND
3. Have a very high amount of cooked little sisters inherited from previous saves
4. because you have to use Doctor Gevala's service of adding limbs, and they cost a high amount of life per limb.

Roughly it works as follows: start easy mode(may be simply an easy start like golem warrior and such) save > level cooking until it gives 3 dishes per ingredient > kill little sisters, cook their meat and stash it in 4d pocket or freezer > you probably have to repeat it again since Big Daddies spawn very rarely once you killed many sisters in this save. Also, you will need at least a body armor that drains xp, a good amount of potions of descent to reduce level by 1 and a couple of monster balls with high level monsters to carry you through act 1.


So making a perfect mutant is like a long-term project in Elona.

I think maybe one or two, no more than three tops. If you max out Shield, Medium Armor and the Holy Shield spell, you will have plenty of PV and any more is a waste. With Hand slots, on the other hand, you can boost any skill by 90 pts each, which is super handy for e.g. Magic Item or Marksman builds. Or get the immunity-to-damage rare skill that shields sometimes get.

as an alternative to cooked Little Sisters, if you can somehow become powerful enough to mass-cast Wishes, you can Wish for a huge number of Astral Light Pens. Then in the new game, use ALPs on Little Sisters to dupe them, and use that to get Hero Cheeses. Takes longer, but it's a more sustainable farming method.

I didnt get enough life with ~70 little sister dishes on this save and had to farm little sisters with lv2 char for a while.All i can say, fuck this shit, never do that if possible. Dungeon diving with low level loss char is a pain in the ass and very dangerous even with constant nefia resets.

Its better to wish for pots of descent since they are almost as rare as books of wish in shops.

And, well, i'm not talking about inheriting stuff from maxed-out char. By the time you can get 70-100 ALPs you wont need any directions for making a good mutant.

You only need 200 cooking (with gear) to get 3x little sisters meat, if you plan to abandon the save. Although extra ALPs wont hurt either once you get some 10-15 pots of descent.

Oh, another part about non-savescummed mutants. I've gained 11 hand slots from Gevala before hitting a limit and then leveled char. I got ZERO hand slots from leveling for some reason. no head slots either.

However, 12 hands is already a plenty if you go for DW. I'm using black angel with 4 hands as a mount for extra ball spamming(in addition to her crazy speed boost, got 500-700 in-combat speed while riding before i even started working on it).

After checking numbers here and there i'd say DW mutant gets maximum benefit from ball spell invokes (chaos/sound) coupled with 4-5t timestop weapons, or getting a stave with 'enhances throwing rock' attribute and weilding vanilla rock. you can add one shield and the rest as tonfas/claws for a really good damage output. Uncontroll helps vs hard targets due to perception(critrate) boost for DW and direct damage boost for thrown.

Mine was doing fine without custom AI, dealing over 50k per enemy with Eclipse. I was really surprised how strong she was despite enemy resists ramping up in the void. Paralysis and nerve resist are extremely high priority for this reason, after getting a little gold from Yowyn I take trips to Derphy and Kapul to get some black market gear. Same here, it saved my ass so many times. When void delving early, sometimes you find yourself in one of those rooms full of breathers who will blast you to death even with high resists. Violent Garden spam will clear many out in just a few turns, saving you from getting overwhelmed.

Actually there are a number of stamina abilities you want to use all the time, such as houzanha (huge CON exp), reading party (safe reading+exp for entire party), cheer/smile field/gravity accel as buffs, zero shoot if ranged, and shadow step if melee.

It's why I find myself unable to abandon kumiromi even though I don't like him, the stamina regen just makes my life so much easier. But once you get a high amount of stamina (close to 300) and leveled your regeneration spell (also boosts stamina regen), you can do fine without him. Soma restores 200 stamina, but takes a lot of time to make. Insanity duration is lowered by mind res, could be handy in a pinch.

It's just you. Laser gun has great optimal range, but lower damage dice and low pierce. I've had characters and pets in late-mid game deal comparable damage (20k gauge attack) with bows, crossbows, and firearms. The 40% pierce on ballistae is excellent. Your effectiveness is more dependent on your skill levels and the quality of the weapon.

That's a big claim. Thrown what? Using weapons not made for throwing in the shoot slot lowers the damage modifier, and throwing has an abysmal range unless you're using Over Long Throw. Pierce is also very low. Are you using some secret strategy involving the rock enhancing enchantment to boost your damage or something?

I didn't realize for instance that you could cook the little sisters, that seems to be the best way to pass down LIFE. I'll keep an eye out for that body armor, which I guess will need to be body armor due to the mutant's slots?

For example, cooking gives 3x output if your skills is above 200, catch a whale/ranch something nice/farm muskmelons, cook it and sell for good money.
Occasionally sell stashed gear, it still gives good money.
There are also various pot of fusion recipes that can give good income, but i've only heard that they are good, never tried myself, maybe other anons could enlighten on crafting part.

I actually like the balance now, you can do pretty much everything and it'll still give yu some kind of viable income source. I know that someone only spams party time quests with ensemble and got millions from it. On my previous save, i did pokemo.. i mean, pet arena with custom ai until i got a plenty of 100/500 yen coins and then used em up in very deep dungeon (1k+ level), selling drops from treasure balls made a very good money as well.

It contains the edited map tiles and spritesheets from a godslaying player. It's not necessary, but you can copy the 5 .bmps in there to replace the ones in your main graphic folder if you like them. I'd say try playing normally for a while and then swap out the sheets to see which you prefer. Same applies to every other spritesheet or editing individual sprites into your sheets from e.g. tieba pack, just see what specifically you want to change and then look for a replacement sprite.

Nah I don't think the scarecrows do anything despite the rumors that they reduce the monsters that show up on the farm. Viable? Yes. Optimal? No. The problem with violent garden is it starts out well enough but is a let down later when you compare it to everything else. Story of most special actions that do damage but not all such as MP breath and mana burst. While getting six digit damage numbers once you're really high up in the things it scales in may sound impressive almost all your normal damage methods like melee, range, and magic are doing damage in the millions. The fact that violent garden is using the stamina resource and doesn't do as much or more than your normals is a let down for me. Violent garden really has its damage nerfed down in the void due to enemy resists but everywhere else it should be ok in damage. For me to really get excited about a special action it's damage needs to be in the millions late game but unfortunately that isn't the case for most special actions. A lot of the best special actions are the ones that buff or have a utility/use case purpose imo.

The only sprites guaranteed to work with in-game armor are the defaults, who unfortunately look like mashed potatoes. In addition most clothing parts in the pastebins are either made for default, or the old vanilla body which looks even worse. Sometimes armors such as wings and shoes look fine with custom PCCs, though. I occasionally leave those on.

The goose is much easier to get than the gem. The unknown shell, which drops early, brings you into goose range. Opotos' boots require rank 3 + a summon; you'd have to invest faith heavily if you want that early. Museum just needs the gold and unique figures, which is easier to get rolling. I'm just doing mainly job board quests and clearing out the queue. Hunting, harvest time, panic, before it's too late, beauty and the beast, and book delivery are the ones I'm doing currently. Will be adding party time to that list eventually and challenge once I qualify for them. Need lots of gold so I don't mind doing a bit of everything while farming plat. As your fame increases you'll qualify for harder job board quests and in turn make more platinum from them as well. Hunting quests for instance used to give me only one but now they're sometimes giving me 2. Panic quests are giving me 2 but they can give up to 10 later on.

This was only the case because of a bug introduced with the drug system, before it was fixed in 1.75. So if you are on the latest version it should no longer be the case and wear off over time (-1 dependence each time it tries to apply the debuff). Also smoking tobacco with an enchantment value of over +10 will actually reduce dependence.

You could do what I did and cheat them in with EloSnack. It's pretty time consuming but you can search for an item in your inventory you wouldn't notice losing (we all have one, and if you don't it's because it's so wortthless you don't remember it) and change its data to the item you want. You'll need the item's ID number (it's on the wiki), its sprite and color (it's on each item's page), and what it does when used with 't'.

It's less that two hand helps casting, more that it's one of the only options that doesn't hinder it.
Dual wielding and using a shield both apply casting penalties, martial arts and two hand are your melee options if you want to avoid them.

Two hand does come with the detriment of necessitating a heavy weapon. To get the most out of it you'll want your weapon as heavy as you can get it, which will force you into heavy armor's hefty 20% casting penalty. I generally just don't equip my sword unless I'm fighting something.

You can get maxed out speed from cheer if you
1. max out cha
2. give her inner god's yacatect's weapon
3. teach her gem, to use at max spellpower before cheer

Cheer got much shorter duration than speed as well, so if you dont have 4-5 pets i wouldnt even bother with this. Also, she should have similar levels of speed in comparison to other pets, or else she'll spam cheer every turn its available if you have, say, bell/quickling in party.
