I love that game but it's biggest problem is being so old there's nothing to do anymore. No one new wants to play because no one old really plays and there's not really anything to do anymore but dress up. Although it's in the top games for that. I wish they could some up with some incredible things to breathe life into the game.
I also don't want to use the nexon launcher so I've stopped playing it recently until I find out if it's still possible to just open Mabinogi and not use the nexon launcher. I should see if I can do it through steam of if they make steam install it.

All that's left for me is Tree of Savior, and after that cute, non-phone mmos will be as dead as /jp/'s old community. The real shame is that I'll never be able to play an MMORPG with /jp/ and not with /v/ or /vg/ ever again.

Incidentally, ToS is being reworked so maybe /jp/ will give it a second shot in a few months.

Recently I've only played FFXIV. Unfortunately, it's kind of bad.
Cute characters, pretty environments and great soundtrack, but content gated behind linear quests and instanced dungeons kill it.
It's also very difficult to just play with friends, there is nothing to do besides instances, and even if you try, most of the content you end up doing solo/ with random people from the duty finder because nobody meets the same quest requirements. PvP is a joke as well.
I don't think you can call this kind of game ``MMOrpg", there's no freedom or much interaction with other players... it seems the genre is dead because every other game is like it (I guess it's the WoW formula, never played it).

I like FFXIV, but I have to agree on some of the points. WoW feels more interactive because players from different alliances can kill you and so on. For example one great passtime was trying to sneak into the alliance capital to catch a fish for an achievement before they found you and killed you. Just that stuff alone makes for fun adventures with friends. Unfortunately WoW is pretty ugly and I don't like how the combat feels like it has no weight or impact behind it.

FFXIV is fun in general, but gets really boring around these times of the year when you are waiting for a new expac. Every piece of content done to death so all you can do is go fishing, craft, play cards and fuck around in cities.

Me too. It's actually not very P2W as far as kMMOs go either. No costumes have really got my attention in a while and I don't use value packs anymore except for the occasional 1 day loyalty points purchase when I'm selling expensive stuff. Why can't there just be a cute game online where it's fun to kill lots of things and dress up and do something else that isn't instances or pvp? (like interesting crafting system, minigames, etc) Mabii lacks the killing lots of things part.

This happened to me last time I played, sort of. Every time, I go a long time without playing, when suddenly a new server pops up, the usual gang springs out of nowhere, and I'm back in the game. I have fun leveling up and farming a bit at the lower levels, but I run out of steam quickly and start AFKing more and more. Hell, last time I had some lucky fucking drops for a crit Sin alt I had, and farmed a shitton to get an Orc Hero Helm, which I'd always wanted, got everything and immediately stopped playing because I just didn't have any will to go on anymore.

I really wish I could play RO for the first time again.

Yeah they shouldn't but the player base kept whining about everything. I've never seen fans drive a game right into the ground like that. The devs can't do anything that's not trying to appease them, like adding actual content, going back over the maps and putting in those little fun things like hidden chests or anything other than constantly changing classes because people keep crying about stupid shit all the time.

They'll probably end up redoing the battle system again next year when enough people keep crying how the changes weren't the savior they thought they were.

You can get something like, 11 or 12 zombies tops (reduced by 50% with a unique maze that grants them +5000 flat life and 80-100% more phys dmg for zombies), Like 4 or 5 spectres, a dozen or so skeletons (maybe more, i don't know much about skeletons and what uniques with +# of skekeltons are worth using), SRS has a hard cap of 20 spirits at a time, Animate weapon has a hard cap of 50 weapons at a time, Golemmancers get like 5 golems or something. A max level Vaal summon skeletons summons an army of 36 skekeltons per cast with a limit of 72 skekeltons at a time, i'm not sure if that skill gets affected by +# of skeletons from items and passives, tho.

All summons in this game are stupid tanky, except for animate weapon and skeletons since they are meant to be disposable units you can summon in bulk and they have a limited life span, unlike the other summons who hang around until they die (or you relog)

You can definitely get a rather large army depending on what you decide to build around and if you decide to do more than one type of summon at a time. You can get to stupid amounts of summons if you add in silly skills like dominating blow and conversion trap, but nobody uses those.

We don't have a date for the release of the new expansion yet, and the current leagues is maybe half way through. All we know is that the expansion will be released approximately in July 2017

Don't be let down by the summon count nerf. It is mainly targeted at making skeletons usable as a main skill by making them a lot more powerful and survivable than they are right now. It will an overall damage buff to minions. Keep in mind the "maximum of 5 skeletons" is the base value of a Level 20 summon skeletons. There will be still sources of extra skeletons, although fewer than now.

All we know is that the release of 3.0 will be "Approximately july 2017"

The current challenge league is not even halfway through (started march 3rd) unless they want to squeeze in a surprise extra league before the expansion which is highly unlikely since the theme of this league is being able to run the effects of up to three of the previous leagues at a time as well as being able to find Uniques exclusive to those leagues and legacy variants of unique items.

Don't be let down by the number count of minions nerf. It is mainly aimed at skeletons anyways, but they will be less disposable as they will gain inherent block chance, better attack animation, damage and health. The "Maximum of 5" is the base value of a level 20 summon skeletons, does not include sources of extra minions (although these will be rarer in the future)

Vaal summon skeletons was not mentioned so we cannot be sure if that one will be changed.

They've had different mechanics, systems, formulas, monster stats, monster locations, drops, drop locations and pretty much everything just moved around here and there.

My favourite modification is that nearly all maps have at least one looter mob, and they have a system where looter mobs constantly pick up drops that weren't picked up by anyone and generate some from time to time on their own, making them into glorified pinatas.

Even so, combat is only one aspect of the game. Even if it was a half assed update that would have not been as bad if they had decided to update the pet combat and enemy AI to the same system instead of players alone.

This game's freedom to do anything is a more important component. Although them putting so much stuff in the homesteads really kills every city but the shop cities. Homestead crafting items and herb gardens were mistakes. Also the infinite event potions.

Mabi is really weird, to have gone so long having neither good PVP, nor good PVE for the longer part of its life. Even most of the storylines are shit. At least they keep to the fantasy life aspect even now. I just wish they'd work a little faster on it. It's not like they're doing anything else besides Mabi Heroes and that card game.

>>16962939
>that can actually keep players engaged beyond grinding
I think the lack of grinding is what's losing the engagement. All the new MMORPGs I play, you level up so quick that you never get to stay in range of anyone and so it's hard to do things together. Everyone also does everything so fast that you never get to relax and socialize. Old Mabi where it took a long time to finish a dungeon, you had time to talk sometimes. Even in Tree of Savior, at first there wee a few times where you'd recover HP in a dungeon, though dungeons are pretty lengthy there and you only have an hour to finish them so you didn't get that much time to chitchat. Everything and everyone needs to slow the fuck down and take it easy.

Also it's more than 10 years. Pretty much any creative mmo came out prior to 2005. Nothing's really innovating and nothing really takes inspiration from anything that came before it except WoW. Besides that, Korea and Japan would rather play shitty phone gambling press-button-to-win games, so MMORPGs are dying off there. Meanwhile, the west never made anything good since WoW.

There's no max level. The soft cap is anywhere from 56-60 depending on who you ask. There are players that are 61-62. It's not the norm, but it's not uncommon either. You can rush to 60 to PvP if that's your thing, but there's a lot more to the game than just the combat.

I personally do a lot of grinding/PvP, but also a lot of gathering and alchemy. There are a lot of life skills in the game: gathering (gathering materials), processing (processing the shit you gathered), cooking, alchemy, training (you can catch and train wild horses- bit of a learning curve on this one but it's easily one of the most profitable things in the game), fishing, hunting (I...have no idea what hunting is. I never bothered to try it out), trading (buy trade items from NPCs and trade them to other trade NPCs), farming (buy a farm, take care of the farm!), and sailing (sail out on the open ocean...no idea what the purpose of leveling it is but that's a skill).

You can easily make all of your money from life skills. The money I get from grinding is basically just spare change. My alchemy/gathering empire has funded everything from my gear to my fancy horses. Honestly if you wanted to, you could pretty much just life skill. I know people who hit 56 and decided to only life skill after that, and they're more than happy playing the game like that.

There's not really party grinding in the game save for a few areas. Guilds are really important, though. There are node wars in the game (if you ever played RO, it's basically WoE), so you can do that with your guild. No dungeons, though. This game is far more PvP than PvE, so this is not what you want to play if raids are important to you.

>If I miss a day will I be 20 levels behind a group?
No! I have no idea why people complain about the grinding in BDO. I can only assume that they only ever played Western MMOs before. You can easily play catch up. I took a short break from the game and I had no problem doing the 50 (old soft cap) to 55 (soft cap at the time) grind.

All new players and players who have been away from the game for over 30 days get to go on special bonus XP channels. I do recommend using these channels with caution, though. There's combat XP and then there's skill XP. The boost channels will boost ONLY your combat XP. Don't be surprised if you end up being level 60 with the skill points of a level 56 if you rely only on these channels. The game gives you a good amount of skill XP boost items, though, so just use them once you get to the higher levels.

I don't like either of those. From what I heard, it's similar to Mabinogi but overly realistic. I was wondering what there was to do though or if it's just a typical boring raids&pvp for endgame mmo. Mabi itself is a sandboxy MMO where you can just fuck around and do life skills all the time and level up purely from doing that without fighting.

Regarding grinding, what I meant isn't whether it's easy to catch up but rather if it takes a week to hit max instead of getting to spend a while in the leveling process. Modern MMOs treat leveling like some chore you're forced to do to unlock the real game. Going back to Mabi, it's not really a problem there because you reset your level over and over and only level for the sake of putting points into your skills which is where your real growth comes from. Since modern games have you leveling so quickly, if you don't keep up, your group can get ahead of you rather than maybe having gained 1 or a few levels only in the time you were gone.

I wouldn't really play it because it's not cute, and besides that there's even a potential to have to see "ironically" ugly PCs in it. I was just wondering how "WoWish" it was compared to how Mabinogi it sounded.

The one thing Mabi doesn't really have is party grinding in the same sense you'd do on RO or even ToS. That was due to its old battle system being geared for pitched 1 on 1 fights and small groups though. Does BDO have an interesting battle system or is ie just that kind of action MMO that pretends it's a console hack and slash game?

I mean I had a good few hours of fun starting Tree of Savior with like 20 people, but we couldn't play together because
A) The game locked up when we got into a cutscene (this wasn't fixed for 3 months)
B) The game ran like UTTER shit with more than 2 people around
C) Parties either didn't work or were locked to small numbers.
I can understand liking the game if you're heavily interested in character building and solo gameplay, but people like you who attempt to mask that the game isn't an off the rails mess if you're not playing it alone, you're an ass.

Game running poorly is a very valid problem. People claiming otherwise are fucking retards. Framerate directly affects the enjoyment factor for a game.
Its something that become even bigger of an issue once you get used to higher framerates than 60. Playing most games at 80-144fps with a g-sync monitor and then going back to 60fps games, it feels really choppy, but its manageable as long as it doesn't dip a single frame below that. Its so noticeable, breaks comfy moments and become incredibly aggravating overtime when it gets in the way of hitting with skills and such.

I've always hated those. Those worlds look so empty and barren. I do like going around and killing stuff to farm materials and stuff off them but people in them seem like they spend a lot of time just having drama instead of properly fighting things. The few I've seen also tend to involve someone with hax, excluding anime that were actually about mmorpgs instead of people going into mmorpgs.

Though on the subject of anime, one of my biggest disappointments with video games is that there are so many anime that would make interesting games, but when anime gets games it's always something half assed and shitty. There's rarely any games that are even really similar to anime outside RPG plots despite lots of them using that style.

>>16987480
>MMOs in anime are usually true sandboxes
This is true in the west too. It's always some shit with real deal actions and permadeath pvp. I don't think a sandbox is good enough though. People these days and possibly in general lack direction and need some vague goal. It used to be leveling in itself, but no one wants to spend time leveling either nowadays. I think anime ones could get by if they aren't half assed, have good battle system and lots of dress up + new content. The secret to making MMOs might even be just finding content players can't just wiki up and grind/get carried through in a week. Artificial time limits aren't really the answer though.

Mabinogi. It has enough clothes and character options to basically do anything, except be flat in most cases. I can't think of anything even close to it. I'm not even sure other mmos put non armor clothes into their NPC stores. If you want modernish, Tera maybe. Mabinogi is still better than most, because not only do they have all the options but the same limitation that makes it hard to be flat and some outfits not have anything underneath(they model each clothing item as a seperate body part) also makes it so your shoes will change based on what you wear.

What this mean is, like in most games, they'll have the girls standing on high heels and all their outfits will have them standing in the same post in high heels. In Mabi, you have have high heel positions, flat position, and different sizes of heels also change your height. You don't even understand how much this bugs me in other games. The one downside to this is that male and females have the same heights, so a full sized girl has the potential to have a significant height over a full size guy if she has heels, but you can be various sizes anyway.

Also you can get girl and boy pets and dress them up too. There's also a lot of anime cross overs. Notably FSN and Utawarerumono2 that have outfits floating around. SAO too if you're into that.

Oh yeah, you can also change your character to be fatter and thinner in the bust hips and waist by eating various foods, although since this game is ancient and has heavy clipping sometimes, people tend to just stay rail thin.(less than the default size) You can make a thicc-hipped half-naked girl if you want though. This is really the system I want to see in a new MMO or proper mabi 2, since right now your upper arms increase with the breast, hips increase with legs, and stomach increases with width. You can't make a skinny busty girl or a big assed but slim hipped girl for example. I wish ass, tits, legs, arms, stomach and waist/hips grew independent of each other. However certain outfits change even that. e.g. there are outfits where you have NO tits period, or ones that make you look slimmer or thicker than usual. (a lot of more recent ones have that thing Koreans like doing where people's legs go to like halfway up their chest instead of having normal length legs.)

Oh, and of course you can dye your clothes in various colors to the point two outfits look completely different. Also lots of silly hats.

It's rather telling that drama in portrayals of MMOs is usually centered around player-created content and sandbox elements, even when regular content is shown to be good. If players are given enough freedom and the game mechanics are strong it is entirely possible for emergent situations and ingame politics to be more interesting than anything the developers put out. That's the main draw of the sandbox, and why MMOs in media usually mechanically resemble Eve more than more modern games. For that sort of thing to work though the devs have to encourage it with real incentives that make working together in large groups significantly more productive than small party play. If player factions/towns/whatever aren't much more poweful and influential than their NPC counterparts within a year or two of release then they've failed in this respect.

I still have high hopes for Peria but I really don't trust Nexon. Even if it's great for the first year or two they'll undoubtedly ruin it eventually.

>I still have high hopes for Peria but I really don't trust Nexon.
Why do people still say this in 2017? Nexon is literally, and I mean ACTUALLY the only good MMO host that isn't a big name company hosting their game themselves. Seriously name another 3rd party mmo host and say why they are better than Nexon. They do fuck up sometimes but they do a passable job, unlike say, Aeria games. As for games being ruined, the companies or subdivisions do that themselves. Every single time some old mmo feels it needs a "renewal" type thing. That's not Nexon's fault. Nexon is probably going to save ToS with actual funds being invested into it, for example. (I want to say IToS wouldn't have had as many problems either if it were with Nexon, but jNexon couldn't keep their fucking servers online for ages. They probably invested in it so they could rewrite the netcode themselves.)

Beside that
>If players are given enough freedom and the game mechanics are strong it is entirely possible for emergent situations and ingame politics to be more interesting than anything the developers put out.
Unless you're wholly uninterested in drama and politics. Too many people get caught up with the MMO part, and think that means "online social game" or "place where I can be antisocial to people trying to socialize". The RP part doesn't come up as much and if you try, people will probably make fun of you or something, or assume it's ERP. At times people totally forget it's also a G, and chastise people who come to an MMORPG to P a G. I mean I like Eve and Mabi, but you need a game there somewhere.* You can't just have a sandbox. You need a sense of adventure and progression, otherwise it's just a graphical chatroom. Nothing like groups of players roleplaying white knights that protect others from pkers really happens like in anime, what happens is people go grief someone because they don't like their irl opinions on anime.

*Note, I didn't mean that sentence negatively towards those games. Mabi is a sandbox because it has a million things you can do that aren't the game's story quest. Because you have like 3 different ways you can even learn skills. Because you have lots of tools to play in the sandbox with, and not just a barren box. Eve is the same, even if most things are boring. Both though, still have a Game and not just an MMO, unlike MMO anime or how drama loving types think MMORPGs should be.

Peria, I don't know if it's battle system is gonna be any good, but I do know leaving content creation in the hands of players is a bad idea and it's going to be heavily restricted in the west because all people here want to do it make virtual dicks. Its success depends on if it has things to do other than summon creatures and make your own content.

What's with this "outsider" thing? I see people in /vg/ talking about cliques and outsiders in their mmo threads. Just join in and don't be a paranoid shy loser who expects people to flood around him and drag him into everything.

The last time I played the game was full of korean names and it scared me so I left. As you can see things have changed a bit. My best guess is that everyone just did everything there was to do since it's easy to max out everything when it was 12x exp rate. Server must still be alive though since there was apparently a forum update for the game last month.

>>17006183
Maid is the most popular class. It involves dying to the death mob several times, losing most of your party members, and buying matching loafers.

>>17005937
Miner sux. Probably the only class I didn't make.

I'm somewhat interested in Bless.
It's Korean with currently three servers: KR/JP/RU, soon to be once again three, since the RU one will close down as the "English version" by Aeriagames gets released, thus plus minus one.
It looks okay and it doesn't have a speck of a pay to win aspect. The overall battle system is nice but caster classes are badly made, as chanting requires you to stay rooted for every single skill you try to cast. Even as a healer.

Aeriagames said they'd revamp the battle system, but fixing the above problem is impossible unless they just remake the entire battle system anew, which means effort.
Further negative points is that KR plays on 500 ping + if you're not in an asian region, making EU/NA players unable to play anything other than the upcoming EN version and said EN version is made by Aeria, which makes me really uneasy about whether that "not having a speck of pay to win" aspect will remain.

I don't hold too many expectations for it, but I'm willing to give the EN version a shot when it gets released along with Peria

Moonlight blade isn't worth it imo
Soul workers was fun although all VPN business takes a while until you're able to play. If you like how that plays out, you should give Closers a shot as well. It's pretty much the same thing as Soul Workers, but in a 2D/Pseudo-3D environment.

Rift is amazing if youre willing to dump autismbux into it. Every tradeskill, hell yeah. Theres still enough people to make it feel competitive. And enough cosmetic shit to make it enjoyable desu. So I'm checking out Blade and Soul and I decide to run a dungeon. The game puts me on a loading screen. That's pretty normal. It drops me on a queue screen. Oh, so I can't do anything else while I wait? Ok I guess. After the group is done, another load screen. Pretty long one this time, and then I'm on some floating platform in the middle of nowhere that serves absolutely no purpose and has only a portal to the dungeon. We go into it and have to go through ANOTHER loadscreen, an even longer one, to get into the dungeon. Same shit to go out.

Dropped at level 20.

I just got a trial for BDO and I must say the combat is really addicting and I think I can enjoy grinding in this game. I have a big issue with the graphics however, I have it on max setting and turned off sharpening filter and AA but the game just looks like absolute shit. It's grainy, everything in the mid to far distance looks super low res, the textures are incredibly pixelated, and the rendering is all glitchy. I guess my expectations are too high for a 10 dollar b2p mmo but I still want to know if it's just my settings or it's something everyone puts up with.

They can make money off visual customization or maybe even some other kind of subscription. Locking out the best part of game (customizing moebots) to gacha killed the game. Monetizing the game with gacha killed the game. Just compare how fun it was during beta and how shit the game went once they went live with gacha.

I know it's kinda hard to see through screenshot but this is pretty much what it looks like. Note especially my character's clothes and the trees. It's even worse in game when you run around and the trees shimmer so much it gives me a headache.

>> No.17018270

Hmm, I was never really a graphicswhore, so I'm rather blind to faults that others see. Even if your rig can run at max, you should probably mess with the settings so that it doesn't bother you. Like if things in the distance looks bad, might as well just turn down the draw distance.

>> No.17018328

>>17018270
I see. Thank you very much anon, I usually don't care much about the graphics it's just that this time I find it hard to focus when walking around with everything shimmering and the objects being constantly rendered.

I think it's something on your end. I'm playing on max and my game looks better than yours (at least from what I can see in >>17018257). I'm not really sure what's causing these issues, though. Your game is incredibly grainy, especially the character model.
