I disagree.
Otaku culture isn't concerned with non-Japanese uniforms, just like how Otaku culture rarely concerns itself with non-Japanese animation and music.

Just like how you wouldn't start posting Western animation and K-pop idols in /jp/ why would you start posting non Japanese uniforms here? Is it simply because a non-Japanese school uniform thread wouldn't survive long anywhere else so you feel you have to post those pictures in this thread?

Isn't there some sort of Japanese website where people post similar pictures? I don't think 2chan has a "Post western school uniforms" series of threads anywhere, but even if they did I wouldn't want to post in them.

gazo-ch is often a good Japan based source for uniform pics ( http://www.gazo-ch.net/bbs/5/ ). There are many erotic pics there, but there are also tons of real school uniform pics. I was able to built up a large collection of real seifuku pics thanks to gazo-ch.

Unfortunately, they seem to be blocking overseas access to the full size images lately (I'm in the USA). If anyone knows a workaround for this, please tell me! Perhaps our Japanese posters can share anything interesting from gazo-ch with us.

Are Japanese schools strict with their uniforms?

I went to school in England and teachers would often tell us to do our top button up, have our ties the correct length, check to make sure we weren't wearing trainers (or patent shoes for some reason), make sure skirts were to the knee and that no one was wearing too much make-up.

This goes for most schools, even not so good ones.

Japanese high schools are odd.

What soul-crushing environments.

There's a lot of stupid ass rules, from what I recall. I only have a little experience in middle schools, but they can't chew gum, have a drink, barely get any time to hit the can, and the lunches are, well, odd. The uniforms are uncomfortable, and they prioritize ENTRANCE EXAMS

Honestly, for all the shit America gets, we put a lot of trust into our minors. I don't mind it one bit.

America is real different in that regard, most other countries get admission exams that get harder every year. There's also much more money to be made in prep schools due to how admission exams devolve over time to first or even second year university knowledge.
Holistic admissions don't straight up tell you how you failed and by how much, just real shitty SATs do.

I'm somewhat bias (in that I think middle school images tend to be cute while high school images tend to be ugly/average and that I love twintails/pigtails) but in general I think that the large/high cheekbones and resulting high set eyes a lot of Japanese have are unattractive. I don't like elongated faces either, or overly small/squinted eyes.

The reason I tend to like the junior high ones better is probably because their faces look less elongated in general, and they tend to grow unattractive as they mature into highschool age faces.

I believe this is true. There's something about highschoolers that looks funny that they don't have before and after. It's probably just the awkwardness of late puberty or something. Also they tend to look awkward in general, since they're dorky kids and not models.

There's also photos vs videos. Some people photograph badly whereas videos can show off their features better than a single shot. It's why professional photographers take tons of shots to get a few good ones.

Is this because girls at elite schools have so little time that they can't spare the minimum effort it takes to make themselves look less frumpy? Or is it the culture at the school such that no one cares about their appearance and anyone who does is labeled by other girls as a whore?

There's a huge disconnect here - it's like some people think there is no middle ground between all out gyaru and looking homely. Looking presentable does not mean looking sexy, nor does it require makeup. Having neat hair is the most basic part of it. An average looking guy with messy hair and a greasy face would be considered a slob. If he washed his face and combed his hair he would be more or less normal. Standards for girls are higher, but still, fixing the hair is a start.

Sorry for my poor English, I am Japanese.
I post sometimes from my sense of service. I don't hate GAL particularly but don't like fake uniforms, because this is a thread of "real uniforms". I choose pics to post for novelty of the uniform or fun of pics as the standard not looks. I don't think the pics of girls who aren't beautiful are shame of Japan.
