I never really saw the appeal of tablets. For the same price as any tablet you can get a laptop with better specs, and if I'm going to be carrying around something as large as a tablet I might as well carry around a laptop. Granted there are a few select situations in which having a tablet would be more convenient, such as when you get stuck standing up on a train or bus and can't rest a laptop on your lap, but in the vast majority of scenarios where you would use a tablet you could also use a laptop. In fact, as long as you can rest the laptop on your lap or on some other surface, the keyboard attached to it will make it much easier to use than a tablet where you have to type on an onscreen keyboard.

The only reason I can see that anyone would buy a tablet is that they are too stupid to realize that they could buy a laptop for the same price, or that they just want a tablet as a fashion accessory. Enlighten me if I am wrong.

I think tablets fill a niche spot in portable electronics. they have a few really neat, useful functions/apps that can't be replicated by (or as well as) a smartphone or laptop - as mentioned however, these are really niche and it'd only be used in very specific circumstances. example: i've seen them used in live music production where a smartphone or laptop would have too small and finicky controls to be readily used on stage.

but that's in my mind at least; tablets are oddly common despite these very specific uses. perhaps the wider market sees more of a use for them or it's simply fashionable to have one.

i kinda liked the older 00's portable tech though. the trend was to try and make everything as small and handy as possible and I just can't fit a tablet into my trouser pocket you know?

anyway, otaku snow from an earlier thread.
