I have this problem. I want to draw but I just can never get around to it. I need some kind of motivation. Maybe if a fellow jpsie drew with me I could actually do something. I need a partner to push me.

This is something I drew about a month ago when I had a sudden surge of motivation. Messed up with it but oh well, I was to far into it. What do you guys think?

I do use photoshop when I want to draw something of higher quality. I just love the community we got in flockdraw. It's not the same thing... I think I've learned a lot from other flockdraw users. They're an inspiration and it's fun to draw with them.

I have the same problem. I usually have someone I talk and share drawings with, but last month they became very busy and wasn't online for a long time wherein I completely lost my motivation.

Here's something I've done tho... it's the best I can do... any advice on improving?

I think I screwed up the back and where the hip joins the side. It's rather difficult at that angle to do it right. I also think I made the torso a little narrow.

I visited /ic/ for the first time and asked them if they could help me with this, but I didn't get much of an answer so I'll just repeat it here.

I really suck at coloring hair. I really don't know what I'm doing here, and I'm just kind of winging it since I'm still very new to drawing in general. Whenever I look at references I have no idea how they come up with their shading and it just looks so random to me. This is basically all I know how to do though. Could anyone give some pointers or share some guides?

you must imagine hair as an object that wraps around a sphere. The light sources that hit the sphere will hit the hair as well. I am not very good when it comes to rendering hair but I find it easiest to block it into clumps. Also leave the detailed area of the hair to the highlighted spots.

I'm not sure how well that kind of knowledge would translate into a 2D image though.

I think you're on the right track. Add some shadows after filling in the base color. You could blend the shadows afterwards, and vary the dark values. Highlights play a minor role (but don't ignore it) and can be easily overdone; use with caution. Actual hair is the best reference, though mine seems to be based on dough and silk.

Even your definition of "mediocre" quality still requires a considerable amount of effort and skill, which I'm glad to have here on /jp/. You shouldn't browse around pixiv for your favorite artists or whatever and then come here expecting the same quality.

People merely draw here for free for anonymous people, which is quite a different situation than what people working for doujin circles or official releases have.

Not really. I sometimes look at other images for ideas but they end up not being as good as just drawing outright. I prefer just sketching what I know about the body on to paper and going from there. You can kind of tell when something was referenced too because everything looks too stale.

Drawing is sort of cheating in a whole.
You don't draw "entire" thing you are trying to draw. You only repeat some lines that will look together on the surface like that object. In some situations those lines will have nothing in common with the object, but they will be much just as convincing as full detailed copy.

For those of you who are practicing and still beginners, what do you do on days where figuring out how to draw something just gets too stressful? Every time I run into something difficult in my drawing I quickly lose motivation to work on it for the rest of the day and maybe for the next day or two. I've been having a lot of "off" days as well, where I wasn't feeling good or tired and can't focus at all.

There's no exact way to pick colors, it depends entirely on the scene and lighting.
Skin tone can be green if you put a green light source right in front.

Work with values instead, and then add hues.
If your values are good, you can add colors fairly easily.
