Hey guys! What's the best Touhou music?

UN Owen Was Her is my favorite, but I haven't listened to much so I'm very aware of how uninformed my opinion is.

If you're talking about original ZUN pieces, I would vouch for any of Alice's boss or stage themes, PC-98 or Windows games. If you're talking about fanmade arranges and remixes, then anything can be contender.

Maybe because it's so popular? Septette is more popular though

My favorite tends to change depending on how I'm feeling. A few months ago it was Cosmic Mind, but currently I really, really like Last Remote. Though I agree when someone said that people only liked it for the ``chorus'' part.

>> No.9976655

You can generally not go wrong with any six-boss or extra boss theme.
Just take a look at this year's surveys and you'll get a general idea of what people listen to.
http://thwiki.info/th/vote9/result_music.html

Some cool stage songs:
Chinese tea
Fantastic legend of tohno
Kagome Kagome
Gensokyo the gods loved
Lullaby of deserted hell
At the end of spring
Midnight Fairy Dance
Desire Drive

By the way, can anyone give me some input on some good circles who do non-vocal arranges? I've always stuck to listening to the originals, so I can't shrug off the feeling that I'm missing out when I see people talking about remixes and shit.

Nuclear Fusion.

I have about 17 mixes of the song but I always prefer the original. The only one that comes close for me is WARNING by NJK records.

But it still only comes close.

I get a serious boner each time I hear "Bloom Nobly Cherry Blossoms of Sumizome" AND/OR "Border of Life"

as for other themes, Phantom Ensemble is really great.

has anyone noticed how few arranges are for "Bahva-Agra as seen through a Child's mind"?

In order, my favorites are Broken Moon, Lullaby of Deserted Hell, and Septette for the Dead Princess.

>>9977071
I love it when they put sirens in the arranges. I always imagine Okuu descending from the sky surrounded by fire when I hear that.

>> No.9977129

Man how come there is never any mention of Lunatic Princess in these threads? To me it's so much better than all the other songs that there's no comparison.

D-do i have bad taste, /jp/ ? ;_;

>> No.9977140

>>9977129
yes. Lunatic Princess is a mediocre theme, outclassed by several other themes on its own game, such as "Reach for the moon..." or "Lunatic Eyes..."

overall, as a whole game I believe PCB has the best OST. I really like IN's OST, but by comparison PCB is really superior.

SA's OST is another great gem of musical scores... overall great tunes, easy to remember and catchy.

>> No.9977154

>>9977140

W-what? Reach for the moon is so repetitive... There's a 2 bar melody for 5 minutes.

PCB is really good but i still put MOF a notch above. More variety and Suwa foughten field is exceptional.

>> No.9977177

Pretty much every single piece. I cant find bad things to say about any of them. Gensokyo that gods loved is my ABSOLUTE favorite, but rest spot on my "list" has like 20 songs. Then the rest of them.

Of all the good themes you could have chosen out of IN, like "Plain Asia," "Voyage 1969," or "Deaf to all but the song," you had to compare it to the second worst ZUN composition in history. How retarded do you have to be to think that "Reach for the moon" is better than "Lunatic Princess?" Both are bad, lack creativity and are repetitive, just like the original "Bad Apple" and "Flowering Night."

>> No.9977215

>>9977129
I like it a lot. More than the other songs in IN. Exceptions perhaps being Reimu's and Marisa's themes, but I see them as kinda special cases.

These. Every song is good, but especially Bloom Nobly. It just fits so well with everything when the fan opens and the music starts, it feels like you have a grand battle with the final boss to the death.

Also one of my favourites is The Road of the Apotropaic God ~Dark Road, it is just so much fun and still has kinda an eerie feeling to it.

>> No.9979617

I can't stop listening to The Purest Sky and Sea. It's got this great atmosphere that one would expect from the CDs, but it's more beautiful than its peers, the main melody does
wonders to me. It's like what those ending/credit bgms could but never would be.

>>9977154
In its defense, it's more like 4 bars. But yes, there's no development or variation and it's repetitive as HELL.

I love how both Lunatic Princess and Reach for the Moon are structured very similarly, though (4 bars of call and response as main theme, arp riffs, then main theme again, etc).
I wonder if this was intentional. Either way, they both lend themselves very well to combined arranges, and I really love it when there's an arrangement combining the two into one song.

>>9977096
Probably it's because that theme is practically an arrangement of Uchoutenpen already? Since a lot of circles usually just take the melody and arrange it into whatever they feel like,
changing the overall feel and structure of the original, it might seem redundant to make an arrangement of an arrangement.

It's like how there are more arrange of Bloom Nobly compared to Border of Life proper, or Cosmic Mind compared to Sky Dream, or Necrofantasia and Necro Fantasy, etc.
Since they're somewhat synonymous, the circles who produce less stricter arrangements and only arrange the melodies (like, a majority of them) may prefer arranging the
more popular version, or the one they see as the more "authentic" version.
Again, maybe.
