Pretty much. While Japanese has taken some loan words from other languages, usually long sentences of engrish in songs is just for the sake of sounding cool.

But WHY are so many Japanese so utterly horrible at English?

Because both language are spoken in totally different ways?

For example, there's no real necessary stressing of syllables in Japanese as compared to English. Which many times English words come off sounding stilted in Japanese to the ears of Native English speakers.

There's also the fact that the languages don't translate well into each other, which tends to lead to either mangling the meaning for the sake what sounds literal, or mangling the grammar for the sake of the meaning.

Their pronunciation sucks because English has tons of sounds that don't exist in their language (English has ~12 vowel sounds, Japanese 5, many consonants are different as well). Additionally, they have a limited number of fluent teachers plus they teach by reading, which is possibly the worst possible way to teach a language.

I dont claim to know a lot of japanese, but I've learned everything I know from anime.

Having said that, everyone in Japan thought my pronunciation was excellent. You learn how to speak right by hearing it.

That is how it sometimes feels when I read those Heisig kanji books. So many english words that feel unnatural to me (who am not english) that I start to doubt the point in learning the kanji for those.
