Why do so few NEETs read?

Science Fiction & Fantasy are perfect genres for any true to form escapist.

Slapping the word NEET doesnt make it /jp/ related

I see what you're doing, and I approve.

I want to read all the classic sci-fi stuff one day (H.G. Wells, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, etc.). There are also a lot of fantasy books I need to read/finish, especially Lord of the Rings.

Problem is, I can't stand reading books on a screen. Also, I have no money to buy dead tree books or some dedicated book-reading device.

I tried reading a few pages of a book last night and I just couldn't focus on it. I need pictures of pretty girls to read.

Reading The Name of the Wind at the moment. Shit's amazing.

I owe my library something like £30. I also lost my library card, and I've maxed out the number of times I can get a new one.

Also my library sucks. It's outside, filled with people, and has no good books. I used to love it as a kid, but it's just not the same as an adult.

I've been listening to sci-fi audio books as I fall asleep. Probably not a purist-approved method, but I can't bring myself to focus on reading an entire book on a screen.

I did end up reading Roadside Picnic because I couldn't find an audiobook for it, but it was kind of short anyway.

If you lived in London and weren't a hikki I could lend you some of my books.

Oh, a new NEET lifestyle thread.

I'll make sure to report all the other NEET threads, then.

I live up north. Nobody up here can even read. All the books in the library are about sports and celebrities. People up here are escapists but in a different way, and that upsets me.

I used to like to read. Nowadays, I'm so depressed and lack motivation so badly that reading anything, even books I once enjoyed, is a chore.

What are some light and short stories that I could start out with to ease myself back into reading?

No feels are allowed on /jp/.

It's /jp/ related as long as I mention NEET in the OP.

Moreso than anything else, I don't want to be on my death bed and think back about how I should have read such and such great work of literature but will never have the chance. It's almost like a phobia. There are so many interesting worlds, characters and stories to be discovered, all that it takes is a little time and patience on the part of the reader.

I loved that book. Probably because I read it as an actual escape, at a party. Everyone else was drinking and dancing and I just sat there in someone else's house reading their book. Felt great, man.
