When the game was announced, the last known place where Finnish Touhoufags came together to post Touhou and guro had already gone under, with most of the people scattered and lost. If there was an opinion amongst them, it would not have been possible to hear it; though if I were to extrapolate, I'd guess not much more than for any other game.

She's not actually any more popular in Finland than anywhere else, she's just recognizable enough and the colours happened to fit.

You do realize that Primary/Secondary are derived from the material in question, correct?

Primary would be all the official touhou material, be it the games, soundtracks, manga

Secondary is any non official works such as fan art and doujinshi.

Hence why people who have not played the games/read the manga are usually referred to as secondary, some characters are much more well known by this secondary crowd and that is what the list made was for.

Where did the Marisa x Alice pairing come from? I know in a few of the games when you can pair with characters Alice is a choice for Marisa. Is there any other reason? Is there something in one of the games that gives off this impression?

The original Japanese dialogue of Imperishable Night gave Japanese fans the impression that Alice was tsundere for Marisa. ZUN also made a comment about how Alice was reintroduced in the windows series specifically to be Marisa's partner in IN. This was not too long after Marisa's route in EoSD, which was really gay. Early on, most Touhou doujins were either pairing Marisa/Sakuya or Reimu/Marisa. The authors of these contacted ZUN with questions and asking for feedback to try to make their doujinshi as faithful to the original work as possible. After IN was released many of the Marisa/Sakuya artists began producing Marisa/Alice works, though Reimu/Marisa is and has always been the most popular even with ZUN.

Since then IOSYS and excessive fanon and shit have made most of the original artists of Marisa/Alice less interested and most of them have moved on to newer characters. This is also partially due to a lot of those artists still being in contact with ZUN, who encourages people to take interest in the newer games.

A contest made to determine which touhou is the most popular in the most accurate way possible in the current period of time, since pixiv only counts artists and said artists' works go far back to years prior as well as the fact that each artist could as many ''votes'' as he/she wants with each tagged image submitted.

This poll is also rather focused on the core fanbase. This is clear since Chen and Cirno are nowhere near the top TWENTY ever. Cirno and Chen get posted everywhere because of bkub for the latter and...well general popularity for the former.

Wow, there's no better scapegoat than IOSYS! Everything you don't like you can just blame on IOSYS, and sit back with a feeling of relief as if there aren't a couple thousand of other sources contributing to it. What a damn shame. In reality though, they were actually the ones always following the fads rather than creating them or making them popular.
