Is there anyone with a stem group who wants to talk about the super deep and dark hentai game Muramasa?

There is already a Muramasa thread one page over.

Get over yourselves, Muramase is not that good, I've seen better shit like MuvLuv or Chross Channel.
The only reason you love this is because of the whole "For every adversary kill an ally, for every enemy kill a friend" bullshit that makes it look so dark and edgy.

Hell no. Cross Channel was absolutely terrible and didn't even have a real story. Is everyone who reads VNs today brain-dead or what?

Sorry but I can't take anyone who "discusses" VNs seriously. Imagine a landwhale sitting on the bus reading this and telling the people around her why they're tasteless faggots, that's the mental image I have of you.

I know learning japanese must have taken a lot of time, effort and dedication, and that's fantastic, it really is, but whenever I see people posting walls of text on VN generals explaining why this or that game is so good and why those who don't like it just can't appreciate or some shit, I can't help but laugh. I'm sorry.

I think the same thing. These are just romance novels for guys. Don't get me wrong though, I love them, but telling someone they have shit taste and trying to present yourself as cultured for reading them...
It's not like its a big deal or that if you read them you should feel insulted though, reading Japanese means we can read actual novels and decent books, not just this type of stuff.

I don't really care, I just saw the thread on the front page and wanted to leave a comment. it amazes me how can some people be so passionate about VNs in general, wherever this game is posted there's always a shitstorm.

Yeah! What the fuck is wrong with those guys? Don't they know that there's a pre-approved list of things that you're allowed to be serious about?
I mean geez, they why aren't they discussing politics or sports teams or pop music or something. I just don't understand.

muramasa threads make me curious.

I always thought that fluency in Japanese was a rare skill, so I imagined that those who sticked to it long enough would naturally end up working as big time translators/interpreters and leave their NEET life behind, or skipping the middle man and going straight to the source (the japanese blogosphere)

So assuming they aren't using machine translations, what keeps the N1s in 4chan?
Is getting a job as a interpreter harder than advertised?

>> No.9872012

>so I imagined that those who sticked to it long enough would naturally end up working as big time translators/interpreters and leave their NEET life behind

This makes no sense. Your personality doesn't completely changes once you learn a language. You still enjoy all the old things you used to enjoy.

>> No.9872014

>>9871977
There's quite a difference between being able to get through an eroge and understand most of it, and being able to work as a translator and/or communicate directly with the Japanese community without being accused of sounding like a foreigner. So you'll have many people spending years, if not the rest of their lives, "only" being able to read Japanese.

Also, I've never heard anything to suggest that working as a translator or interpreter is particularly prestigious. Might be a little more pleasant than joining the unskilled laborforce like most of us NEETs would have to, but it's still not excessively rare for people to know more than one language.

>> No.9872154

>>9872014
But from what people have been saying in these threads, this particular game is very difficult to understand.

I know plenty of people know more than one language, I am trilingual myself, but Japanese is listed in Wikipedia as the hardest language to learn for native English speakers. So the ability to read Japanese has to be worth something. Has anyone here managed to make money from commissions? I'm really interested in learning more about how translators get started and how much money they can make.

>> No.9872183

>>9872154
>I am trilingual myself
Then why aren't you working as a translator?

>> No.9872261

>>9872183
because they aren't rare, hard to learn languages. I've worked as a private tutor but it pays very little, and there is a LOT of competition.

>> No.9872353

>>9872183
Because knowing more than one language helps you very little, contrary to what teachers or parents tell you. With machine translators or a few phrases you can get by anywhere. I know English, Spanish, French, and a bit of Portuguese and German. Guess what language I use to speak with anyone outside my country? Learning anything after English is pointless, I'm mad at myself for wasting a modicum of time on French even. Imagine what better things I would have learned if I had taken different classes...

But with French, you can read French literature untranslated. Like... Descartes or whatever.

Anything worth reading has already been translated into Spanish and English. The only thing French is good for is talking to slutty tourist girls or watching shitty French films without subtitles. Maybe if I ever planned to move into France or Africa too.
