640x480 and 800x600 have it even worse. Not only are they no longer respected, they have become the subject of mockery. Kids these days have no respect whatsoever for the classics.

I'm glad 1280x1024 still has its place. There are no real 5:4 alternatives, QSXGA is still too high-end

From an artistic perspective, lower resolutions can have their own value. For example, pixel art results from using very low native resolutions and a limited color palette (the NES, for example, used 256x224).

It's especially striking with visual novels. While newfangled huge resolutions do have their advantages, low resolutions also have their charm.

>> No.9870701

>>9870690
Any difference between, say, 800x600x24 and 1600x1200x24 is minimal. Both have enough pixels to accurately represent their target image, the aspect ratio is same, the color depth is same.

This. It's like icons. Any ENTERPRISE icon designer will stress the importance of accentuating and exaggerating certain features at different resolutions, which is why straight-up vector icons are uncommon.

With high resolution art you can get away with imperfections. With low resolution art you have to put more effort into every pixel.

>> No.9870710

I'm annoyed enough that the danmaku Touhou games still use 640x.

There is no need for respect. It's a tech, things get obsolete and we move one.

The stand to rotate the relatively light U2311H is very well engineered from expensive materials. In order to rotate the U2711 the bundled stand would have to cost at least a sizeable fraction of the total price.

Luskily, the U2711H has VESA mounts. Get an aftermarket stand. You can afford it, considering you could afford the monitor.
