Depends. I am convinced that C++ isn't really hard to learn compared with any other language, but your success will depend on several factors.
1. Your age (adults have a better capacity to learn new things)
2. Previous experience using programs/computers beyond browsing and gaming.
3. Willingness to use a search engine when you have problems.
4. Leaving preconceptions of learning or technology at the door.
5.Regular daily/weekly practice however small and insignificant.
6. A decent and robust IDE with visual cues for mistakes.

If you can satisfy these points then there is no reason you cannot learn C++ as your first programming language within a few months.

Java is easier to learn than C++, and it improves on a lot of C++'s (design) mistakes.

While there are obvious issues with Java's implementations (gamer kids complaining about their RAM being used and whatnot), C++ is some sort of horrible monster that sits in between C and Java and everyone sensible wants it to go away.

>> No.9846453

>>9846083
I would actually say that Java is a poorly designed language especially when it comes to things like abstract types.
However there is no real difference between Java and C++ for the basic bread and butter programming concerns. For other beginner and intermediate stuff Java trumps c++, but lets be serious for a moment, it's because of the Java libraries that implement most stuff, rather than the actual language that makes it easy. Then later on when you want to do interesting stuff you have to deal with all of the limitations.

On the other hand, every "simple" thing you do in Java can be done more or less exactly the same way in C++ and infact you can use C++ in much the same way you use C. Most systems, if not all, have windowing libraries for C or C++ that easily trump Java. So if you use C++ with say, gtk or QT, SDL,boost, and/or whatever you need, then you can probably just as easily do whatever you wanted to do in Java but in C++ and build for various platforms.

So I really don't see how C++ is harder to learn than Java, but I do think people confuse learning with being able to make shitty programs that sort of work half of the time with vague code. C++ is just far stricter with that, and you could even argue that it greater incentive to not make careless mistakes and actually learn the language you're using.

The most powerful programming language is Lisp. If you don't know Lisp (or its variant, Scheme), you don't appreciate what a powerful language is. Once you learn Lisp you will see what is missing in most other languages.

When you start a Lisp system, it enters a read-eval-print loop. Most other languages have nothing comparable to read, nothing comparable to eval, and nothing comparable to print. What gaping deficiencies!

Lisp is no harder to understand than other languages. So if you have never learned to program, and you want to start, start with Lisp. If you learn to edit with Emacs, you can learn Lisp by writing editing commands for Emacs. You can use the Introduction to Programming in Emacs Lisp to learn with: it is free as in freedom, and you can order printed copies from the FSF.

To study Scheme, and programming through Scheme, I recommend Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs, by Abelson and Sussman.

C++ is actually the toughest language that actually is useful for general shit, other ones may seem harder because you need to know lambda calculus and other useless academical crap to put them on use and even so their performance is mediocre if you're not gonna use recursivity for 90% of your functions, also these ones don't have as much predesigned libraries as C++ or java, even though C++ is discuraged because it's complexity is retarded because most of it comes from stupid syntax.

Sounds kind of abstract to me without going deeper to see what else implements T and impl/extn X,Y,Z. The problem as the anon said above is that Java wastes memory retardly to make the implimentation, polymorphism, and gestion of memory very easy, but the hierarchies that you can make with.
h Java.... show me how you manually manage the memory after the ninth inheritance.
>So if you use C++ with say, gtk or QT, SDL,boost, and/or whatever you need, then you can probably just as easily do whatever you wanted to do in Java but in C++ and build for various platforms.
To this day I've not seen a medium-low level interface for graphics as simple as Swing, in a a few hours you can write a complet interface that listens to the keys, don't talk about the damn canvas and the adapters, is too simple and sweet for a rookie to say no, maybe the only thing I've seen that comes close in simplicity is simple directmedia layer that you mencioned above.
>So I really don't see how C++ is harder to learn than Java
Picture
>C++ is just far stricter with that, and you could even argue that it greater incentive to not make careless mistakes and actually learn the language you're using.
Actually java is more strict, not javascript though, again the complexity of c++ doesn't come from a hard/complex syntax but from it being pants on head retarded, not trying to hide that is a language that can have a much higher potential than java being closer to the machine, but as long as you're not going to be sys admin or you want to make lots of effort and get frustrated, go for java or even C, if you want a simple game visual basic is also a chance.

Except that isn't the case. That argument is as dumb as the arguments creationists use to argue against evolution. This year (21 years of age) I approached it again as a hobby and became pretty good in a matter of months.

I imagine the general opinion comes from the fact that children have more time to lean and practise things, so it can come across as they learn faster.

I'm also learning Japanese much faster than I learned to speak English, and that's counting from the first word of each language spoken.

I read on your forums that you have or plan to drop it in favor of C++ and I would advise against it.

C++ takes longer to write and you have to worry about a whole lot more like memory management. Python has good libraries and frameworks available like PyGame if you're doing everything from scratch and not a VN. It's also cross-platform.

Here is the information from the about page of the blog:

/jp/ Milk Tea is a project to make a 2D piece of life game along the lines of Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon. The game will take place in and around a town where players will stay at a mansion. The inhabitants will primarily be little girls. There will only be one masculine male character, a carpenter. Any other males will be traps. There will be futa too. Those details won't really matter much to gameplay though.

Emphasis will be placed on developing relationships (friendship or romantic) with the other girls/traps/futa. They will develop through various means, primarily like the social links in Persona games, but with more interesting events (as opposed to doing the same thing most of the time).

Aside from that, you will be able to grow plants in the garden (similar to how things work in Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon), visit the puzzle dungeon (temporary name) where you will be able to solve many Zelda-style puzzles, play a cooking mini-game (the details for this haven't been worked out yet), and other things.

Emphasis will also be placed on earning currency, but there will be various ways to do so. You'll be able to purchase clothes to customize yourself.

The main goal is to make a fun, easy-going game that allows players to be a little girl/trap/futa. It won't be a lewd game.

C++ also does not take a significant longer time to write. You're saying it like it's some sort of hours difference. Besides writing code is fast anyway. That and your ability to write code is more important than if it is in Java, Python, or C++.

Simply put, yes. The current composer is thinking something along the lines of upbeat, happy music that is typical in some VNs. As for my thoughts on the matter, I've a playlist of music on youtube that I think sounds appropriate. Most of the music I've had in mind has come from Animal Crossing (Wild World/City Folk, a little from the original) and Hidamari Sketch (since the tone in it is very close to what I have in mind for this game).

I'd love to have jazz and ragtime songs too, though maybe just a few. If someone composes jazz, I will make it fit.

The current composer would like to have someone else join the development team so that he has someone else to talk to about ideas for songs.

now you have two choices:

OR

A lot of your assessments are pretty fair(if worded cruelly), but I think there are certain things that would give the wrong impression. The strange outlines and awkward shading ARE poor, but using generally the same colors as the background for the character is just fine, and actually how a low-light situation would work. That's obviously not the case here, but if I put myself in his shoes, reading that makes it sound like that's never a good idea.

Also despite the high contrast, I think you should have explained that the skirt and socks are not a very reflective surface and a strong highlight probably wouldn't have been applicable. The shadows are, like you say, missing, but a midtone is enough. She's not wearing latex.

Her hair, the knife and the top of the lamp are too well lit for that amount of light, so either let more light in or draw more shadows. Speaking of which, they should also cast shadows on surfaces like the table.

Other than that, her fist is facing the wrong direction. We shouldn't be able to see the fingers. The folds on her shirt are a nice try, but somewhat off. Try adding a crease or two from below her arm toward the shoulderblade, for instance. Given the way she's leaning, there shouldn't be much anything slacking on the backside.

It's not that bad, you can improve. Without any knowledge and just personal opinion, I think it would be better if you show more the strokes following the curves of the body and clothing to make them pop up better instead of being groups of heavy color. The hair would be better lighter on the tips. I like the color focus on the ribbon and how it seems to bleed into the rest of the blouse, but it'd be nice if it was more organic (curves and following natural lines) instead of the boxy lines in the pocket seams.

I like the skin coloring, specially how you chose to do the cheek blush and lips. The sketchy lineart around the defined facial lines allows for an interesting style with the sparse coloring you're doing. Like something out of a dream, not quite defined but very vivid.

Oh, and maybe do something so that the gradient between heavy pressure and the rest is more subtle. As it is it's a hard drop between the darker, more colored parts and the surrounding areas which are almost the same flat shade.

I hope this was useful and not just confusing. Really not my place to give proper critique since I can't draw a rock.

Almost fooled me with the pretty colors and cute face. The sword looks a bit weird, as well as the sleeve (no folds or creases, too rounded, not cloth-like enough). Also, I think I know what you were trying to do with her hand, but the way it's shown it's like her thumb is on the wrong side. Her pose seems unnatural and doesn't feel like she's in a slashing motion. The thigh seems too big, and might be too long as well?

Still, nice coloring, and it still looks decent.
