For the last 3 years I've isolated myself from anybody. The loneliness and depression is slowly killing me. I'm nearly crying every night and thinking about suicide. I don't want to die, yet so I'll try to reintegrate myself into society, approaching people and actively pursuing friendships. Something I've never done in the 26 years of my life.

I'll start tomorrow by making a little shopping trip in the next city. I won't talk to anybody there but I hope this little adventures will be the first step in crawling out of this hole. This is my first and last chance.

Hope I can get some other peoples experiences.

I am a heavy internet user (10-14 hours a day) and i've been doing that my whole life. I just don't want to continue that lifestyle anymore and i've tried many times to cut down my hours, but I always come back.

I just don't understand. I hate being on this computer, I really want to do other things but I just cant. Why is this thing like a magnet? I could easily think of circumstances that lead me to this lifestyle, but that's too easy of an answer and it doesn't actually solve anything.

I've tried stopping my usage cold turkey, and I do get surprising results. My day becomes very productive, I have increased energy levels and I do the work that I need to do then go on the computer, where I have a great time because I don't feel guilty and I can fully enjoy myself. But I can't continue that into the future because I get tired of doing the work I need to do and I feel like I need a break, then it starts all over again.

I tried getting a job thinking it'd change my lifestyle and break some of the habitual nature of my computer usage, but pic related.

Can anyone else sympathize?

Actually I think you're just denying that you don't want to be at the computer because you believe that you for some reason have to live a 'normal' life. You wouldn't constantly go back to something that you truly hate.

My advice: have someone take the fuse out of your computer/router plug and hang onto it for a fixed period of time. Also, set a schedule. Write on paper: 10:00 AM -- WAKE UP, 11:00 AM -- READ SICP etc. You will be so much more productive and feel more accomplished.
