Why is EV training in PP Emerald so annoying before the Elite 4? I found this (>>9813745) a great feature of PP Enhanced, but Emerald only has ``somewhat convenient'' locations where you can get lucky and get the Touhou you need one out of three times (for one EV point, thanks a lot).

If I made a Pokemon game, I would give out Cut at the very start, but it would never actually be needed at any point, and you would progress through the game, eventually getting rid of it, until the very end. At the very end, in the last room, is a tree. If you cannot cut this tree, you must go back to get someone who can. If you leave the room, however, your rival gets to claim the champion spot, and you will never get a chance to challenge him for the title. You will be forever only second best.

If this Emerald Hack is the one I think it is, then the daycare should have an egg that will bring your pokemon to level five and zero EV's. If that is so, then the best way, I've found, to train up super OP Touhous is to bring them up through chibi until they are about to evolve so they learn the moves you want them to learn, then evolve them and use the daycare egg. After that, pick up EV's, then raise them up to the level you want.
It's pretty time/rare candy consuming, but you end up with the best stats that way without giving up on any of the moves they learn as a chibi.

Luna was immobilized by love while Dai-chan continued to kick the shit out of her.
Then I realized that, out of all the fanart and such out there depicting game elements, there has to be some depicting the Attract element as domestic violence. And if there isn't there definitely should be.

And the first time you catch a trainer's pokemon, the next time you go into a pokemon center he shows up with a policeman with relatively high level pokemon for that center to battle you.
If you win, then you continue like normal, but the guy at the end of Nugget bridge mentions that he's heard of a rogue pokemon thief. If you lose, then all of your pokemon are confiscated and you meet a Rocket while in jail. Queue the "lol here's a rattata" beginning.

I thought a deconstruction consisted of taking the normal tropes of a specific popular style and bringing them to an unexpected but logical conclusion.
I think >>9821939 meant an inversion, since you would usually start off in the same place and branch off to a different conclusion, but in this one you start off in a bunch of different ways and each route ends up with you brutalizing the E4 in the ass and stealing all of their pokemon FOR THE GLORY OF TEAM ROCKET.
And also a ton of cash.

>> No.9822052

>>9821998
Okay, to put it another way (yes I'm post # **951) deconstruction is an analysis method that arrives at the foundation of something through identifying and challenging its part; that's my understanding of it.

So an example of deconstruction for "branching routes" could be, a fork in a road where one road leads back onto the previous path (and you can't go backwards), assuming that a "normal" branching route would make two seperate paths that either merge directly or have different destinations; as you effectively introduce recursion you have one route that contains things A and C, and another that contains A, B, and C. This is different from a normal "shortcut" because a shortcut is ABD vs ACD; a normal re-merging path. Of course, it's hard to make a deconstruction of something as simple as "branching paths", because the foundation is in its name.

A better example might be a half-sphere as an example for deconstruction of a bowl or cup; these things normally come with handles and/or have flat bottom (depending which you're talking about), but a half-circle has all the fundamental utility of a cup. Or, you could say, we don't need a handle for a cup, but a sipping spot would be nice! And then you have those Starbucks coffee cups made with glossy paper and a plastic lid. This goes against the usual "misshaped cylinder with a lid" but it's still a cup; I guess it goes to show that deconstruction is only useful for things that are hard to tell, what they are.

How difficult would this be to do?
Specifically, I would want three different methods of joining:
Any time, by stealing a pokemon and then losing to the policeman who shows up the next time you go to the pokecenter. Lose all your previously caught pokemon and restart with a Rattata at the lowest rank.
Cerulean, by agreeing to join after beating Nugget Bridge or losing to the guy who makes the offer. Keep your pokemon and start at either the lowest or second lowest rank (depending on whether you agreed to join or were forced to after losing).
Saffron, Giovanni offers you an officer position after you beat his worst team in Silph Co. Keep your pokemon and start off with a pretty high rank. He will only offer if you have stolen a pokemon and defeated the officer who comes after you.

You don't have access to the boxes until you have a high enough rank. Until then, any pokemon you catch beyond what you can hold automatically go to Team Rocket, and you get a percentage of what it sells for based on your rank.

No more access to Pokemon Centers. All healing must be purchased as items from Rocket Agents spread throughout the region. They do sell PP increasing and healing items as well as regular healing items. They also sell more items and special items that become available based on your rank.
Rank up consists of having gotten Team Rocket a certain amount of money along with winning a special battle. You may also buy your way out of the battle if you have enough cash.
All routes end up with you as Giovanni's Aide except the Saffron route, which lets you turn him into your puppet after you defeat E4 and capture all of the Legendary pokemon.

Oh man, that's a three way tie with two votes each, but Disable is the heaviest. I guess I won't need it now that I have better support moves, actually, so I think that /is/ the one. Funny you should mention that. I have a real bad habit of forgetting to save my game before doing something important.

I actually brought along only 1 puppet that was above level 50, since I didn't know what the registeel replacement was, and I wanted something capable of taking hits for the "lets watch a legendary beat up my pokemon while I throw tiny capsules at it" phase that happens in every legendary fight. Puppet Play, World Link, and Marisa's Magical World are all a sort of set that go together made by Aichiya.
Puppet Play and World Link work like regular games, except with heavy, heavy modifications to storyline and maps. MMW is just a sort of playground where you can catch any puppet except for a few very special ones and trade them across to the other two.
Touhoumon Blue Version's primary selling point is that it was modified to be a completely open world. If you catch a puppet with Run Away, you can explore the entire region without ever getting any badges, except for very few small little areas that he put in as extra.

There were some people in the last thread who were asking for a prepatched ROM because they couldn't handle IPSs. It was a couple of people, at least.

Personally, I recommend beat format patches like the one I did (http://byuu.org/programming/beat/)) because it's a stable format that does everything a patch ought to do. It's a "modern IPS", with linear (overwriting data) and delta (adding/deleting supported) modes both. IPS is just linear. I guess for such a hack with simplistic replacements, IPS is fine, but its support on other OSs isn't so good. Beat is nice because there's two major patchers - one's in C/++ and it's totally cross platform, and the other is python.

You can apply standard IPS patches on Windows/Mac/Linux. But the format has two main limitations:
- No support for >16MB files. This will be a problem if you need to expand the ROM.
- No checksumming. So when applying the patch, it can't tell you if it was applied to the wrong file or if patching failed for some reason.

UPS and BPS/beat don't have those two problems. Of those I'd recommend UPS because it's older and better supported.

Go figure...but anyway, that GPL program you linked looks terrific....if a Debian packager would adopt it that be even better.

Unofficial extensions are the bane of patching formats, and exactly why, with its colorful history, IPS isn't fit for its job anymore.

on the subject of pokemon hacking, is it possible to make an script or ASM hack where there are items that do HM moves?

>> No.9826818

>>9826801
I've heard of hacks that do this, but don't know much about them.
I'm pretty sure it's possible, though.

Is this at bump limit yet?

I'm starting on Norman now, Lolice finally evolved too. I was intending to go elemental sweeper with her but her stats are too balanced.

>>9826777

I was griping about that in a previous thread. His hack DOES go past 16MB, he really needs to use something else.

Also thanks Agastya for the beat option.

Yes bump limit, new one will appear soon I guess if it hasn't already.

>> No.9829056

Wow, was Tenma put together shoddily.
She's got high Sp Attack and really low Attack, but barely learns any useful non-physical stab moves. With her stats and typing, making her completely unable to learn Earth Power is ridiculous. At least give it to her through her egg list.
Ideally, Aeroblast should have been a flying-type special move. Having both Aeroblast and Thunderbolt the same typing is pointless.
Tenma's ideal moveset, for me, would be
Counter
Flying!Aeroblast
Earth Power
Roost

Out of curiosity does anyone have another thread in the works? I got the impression that someone did. If not I could take care of it and fix some of the things I originally fucked up/add links to the touhoumon hack pastebin, the mediafire collection, and perhaps add a more general mechanics FAQ pastebin. Don't want to step on any toes.
