also it's revealed that ZUN can't drink with the mangaka who's doing the manga because he's under 20 appearently.

It looks like it's about Patchouli.

The official release date of the new manga comes out on October 26 actually.

So I guess in a month from now we'll get to learn just what ZUN has cooked up and how come he chose this new artist who seems rather unknown at this time.

I really hope it's Satori not because I like Okuu (I don't) but because I want to see her other pets badly and we might get to see Parsee again.

I really miss a Touhou game, but a manga is always appreciated. I really should pick the Kasen manga already. How important are Touhou manga in relation to the canon? Are they vital for any fan to read? I haven't really touched them, but I've read SoPM and PMiSS.

Nigga, please. Not only is ZUN a great writer, he's also literally never written anything that wasn't either an explanation of the setting or a lesson in Japanese mythology. Some Sangetsusei chapters have 3/4 of panels consisting of characters sitting around explaining some supernatural phenomena of the month to each other.

The moment I saw OP I immediately assumed that the new manga would be about Akyuu, because of all the objects pictures are in strong relation to her. I am baffled /jp/ actually had to have this explained to them, really.

But after reading this thread I suppose Satori is also a possibility, even of only because I want to humor such an interesting scenario. After all these years I feel like I still haven't really warmed up to the SA cast, and it would be very interesting to see them as the main characters in a print work.

Anyway, I'm very excited. I really love all the official Touhou manga, perhaps because they appeal to me personally a lot, but also because I think they are quite unique in their own way.

I don't remember the characterization being any more prominent a part in SSiB than in any of his later manga. Touhou manga, or just Touhou in general, has always been about the scenarios on the whole rather than about specific characters. Even in Sangetsusei, the stories are less about the fairies and more about their explorations and discoveries.

Forbidden Scrollery makes me think about Hijiri's scroll. It would be kind of cool if ZUN made something about the budhists, possibly even involving Makai.
