No one would ever ask you to post scripts on TLWiki, it is kind of pointless to do so with any established project. Most who even use TLWiki these days don't upload any scripts unless the purpose for doing so is to pray someone else starts working on it (in which case the uploader usually isn't going to be translating). More so putting up a page even without scripts is pretty pointless unless you just want a page on a centralized site or need hosting for the patch and don't want to use something like media fire.

>> No.9733801

Boob Wars is probably going to end up being one of MangaGamer's better selling titles, despite being a fairly cheap nukige.

>> No.9734354

>>9733794

Not to say that anyone who doesn't want to should make their scripts public/use TLwiki, but I find it useful even if it's just me and my editor working on a project––you can keep track of changes and you always have a copy of your work somewhere else when it's on the wiki in case of any computer failure or if you're working from multiple machines. I mean, sure there are plenty of other ways to accomplish those things, but it's there and simple to use, so why not, at least that's my perspective.

Also, just generally speaking, considering how high the non-completion rate for VN translations is, having scripts publicly accessible is useful for the community in general (but, again, I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to keep shit to yourself until you finish either). I could see how it'd be more trouble than it's worth if you're working on something high profile though.

>> No.9734449

>>9734354

In general, while it has it's advantages, it does quickly become more trouble than it's worth to have publicly hosted scripts on TLWiki, which is why that really doesn't seem to be getting used for most active projects. I believe of projects on TLWiki right now that are regularly active, it's down to only Hadaka Shitsuji. Never 7 was really the last to use it before that, but Gundam Ace has since moved to a group with privately hosted scripts.

The premise sounds interesting, so I'm looking forward to it. It looks like the game uses N2System (from what I can see from the script)...many people apparently hate the engine for being difficult to debug. If you're having any trouble with the engine, there's probably people who can help you at #tlwiki on irc.rizon.net. Assuming the engine hasn't changed much since Chaos;Head/Sumaga times, be careful for inconsistent quotation marks ("opening one but then forgetting to close it) and the words 'cut' and 'scene' (keywords that cause errors). The game will either crash or skip the entire script file without notifying you if something's wrong with the script file (again, assuming that shit hasn't been fixed since 2008).

Hi /jp/. I'm the one translating Phenomeno.
It feels kind of stupid to post this from one day to another, but I'm considering of closing the translation project. The reason behind this decision is because I just found a complete translation of the real novel on the net after doing some research. The link can be found here: http://www.suiminchuudoku.net/tl/wikka.php?wakka=Phenomeno . I've only taken a quick look at it, but from what I can gather, it seems to be IDENTICAL to the visual novel. Besides, this person's English is far superior to mine. This would mean that it's fully translated and edited already. If anyone feels like asking this person for approval of using his or her translation and merge it with the visual novel, it's up to you. However, unless it turns out that it isn't identical to the game, I'm not going to take any further responsibility for this project. Sorry.

Thanks, wasn't aware of that newer version (oldest I could find was 5+ months old).

Manual insertion is easily possible, though very tedious (more so than expected). If anyone wants to give it a try, here's the scripts: http://www.mediafire.com/?2x26y91mk8xx1i7 (only the prologue (a couple lines) inserted...probably fucked up with the line breaks, didn't find out they were relevant until I inserted it)

To use the scripts in the game, just remove your nss.npa (put it somewhere else or delete it, I don't think renaming will work) and extract the contents to your Phenomeno folder so that there will be a folder named 'nss' in your Phenomeno folder. The .nss files are plaintext SJIS files, with fm00_001 containing the prologue and fm01_001-006 containing the the entirety of 'case 01'. To insert just comment out the original Japanese line and put the translation for that line under it. Put an ampersand in front of every period and comma (otherwise it will be ignored, which looks really weird) and add any tags (<K>, {Wait(2000);}, etc) present in the original line in the same places in the translated lines. Voila, line translated.

Personally I have to admit I'm a lazy bastard and probably won't be able to motivate myself to insert all of that text.

I bet there are some of you in this thread who have spent years waiting for translations. If you had dedicated just a fraction of that time to studying then you would have no need for translation threads like this.

I see people say this all the time, but it's silly. Most of us are not sitting around on our asses watching the screen for news of a translation all day. We're doing other things we enjoy and occasionally checking for news on projects we're interested in. Basically, it's like asking why someone would choose to wait a year for a developer to offer a game for free (assuming they did that) rather than buying it for full price when it is released. This is true, however it is worth looking at what does get translated. In general, a large percent of top and near top tier titles do in fact get translated. Besides these, lower tier titles that are somewhat well known by the West for other reasons (an anime, well known company, or just something which appeals to the West) also have a rather decent translation rate. What tends to suffer is the 2nd tier mid range VNs that aren't popular otherwise for some other reason, which there are a good deal more of. Now there are plenty of worth playing games here that those who don't learn Japanese will never be able to play. The other case is if someone wants to play things immediately then they also suffer, since even if something gets translated, in almost all cases it will not be translated the same year as it is released in Japan. In the end, it really comes down to priorities of the person, if they believe that these goals are worth the time investment to learn the language. However it is rather understandable that not everyone who has an interest in visual novels decides to make the large investment into learning a language.

>In general, a large percent of top and near top tier titles do in fact get translated.
Depends on your definition of "large percent" I guess. The English-only crowd really are missing out on a lot of great titles. They just don't normally get talked about here because, well, they're not translated. Then there's the titles that are considered top-tier in Japanese that the translation does not do justice (Swan Song, Romeo Tanaka's stuff, etc.).

I can't see how it takes disciplin to learn Japanese. I'm pretty lazy and even I'm able to learn it. It's not like you have to sit 5 hours a day with a book in your hands. Even learning kanji is ridiculously easy these days - if you do it right.

All it takes is some time, and that's what /jp/ has plenty of.

Aaeru has a good guide on learning Japanese *while* reading a VN, so you can basically translate at the same time. When you're done, you will have a (not great but to the extent of what you learned) translation of it, which you can then release for others while they do the same for you. A little bit more time for everyone individually, and a lot less waiting overall.
