The fact that ANY character from PC-98 has been used means that the PC-98 events are real, who knows what context ZUN was referring to, but whatever it was, he does not consider PC-98 non-canon.

PMiSS even tells the events pre-EoSD where there were no spellcard rules (i.e: pc-98 times).

Regardless, the original point is that Reimu is blood-related to the Hakurei and that point still holds true.
