They are all good in their own ways.

I went with Sanae since she's more unique in being a very defense-oriented starter which made it a different experience than most Pokemon games I played. All of them have typings that you won't find in early game.

I'd say Sanae has the toughest time in the beginning due to common fodder ratatta replacements actually being super effective against her right from the start. She is very versatile and learns tons of different moves from different typings. Wind, Water, Native, Fire, Faith, ect

Alice is a strong but slow type and my Rival's Alice gave me a very hard time since it has high offense and defense (just very low speed)

I hear Reisen is a strong sweeper

Last I played was emerald beta 2.2

I got past the fifth gym at least but then stopped indefinitely. Kotohime which I caught early proved to be ridiculously useful as a meatshield just for the high hp, yawn and headbutt, which helped me survive the more ridiculous fights.
Patchouli I also got early on, but didn't end up that great. Despite the elemental variety, shit like earthquake and flamethrower, she was hindered for emerald not having the atk/sp.atk split for moves.
Parsee was great though. Although dark ghost isn't lacking in weaknesses in this (since steel is super effective against dark type), her stats were just superb all around. I wound up flooring the entirety of Yukari's touhous with her despite being five levels under most of them.

Although, Parsee's also the reason I stopped. When she hit EX, every level after she wanted to evolve into her xmas form, and I was up in the air about whether I wanted that or not, since, she lost some of her physical defense for sp.def.

Ah well, what're the changes in 1.8 for emerald?

The level curve is kind of nice, so you don't have to grind on level 5 Touhou when facing a trainer with level 20 Touhous. Enemy movesets are also pretty clever, so battles do not usually get boring. Cannot say anything about endgame, as I'm still struggling with Victory Road. Mostly because of the drag, not because of the difficulty, though. Most of my Touhou are probably overleveled as fuck.

She missed out on Mana Charge/Calm Mind unfortunately. She has access to Lock On as an egg move (It's +2 Accuracy) but she can't actually learn it yet since her egg group is Chaos.

Since I'm sticking the Magic Stones in the Chaos group, on next update she'll be able to get Lock On and then use Blizzard/Luster Purge/Lock On/Recover but for now she's just.. yeesh. The set >>9743806 posted is fine for in-game stomping, though.

There really isn't much in the way of 1.8 hacks.

There's JP official, a couple of half-broken ports of it, Aichiya's port which has a bunch of extra features (and kills Lance's team for some reason), and then the Emerald version that's a port of mechanics but original after that. After this you get into unofficial JP patches which add features while turning the difficulty on its side similar to how Insane acted, you have to face level 22 Quiver Dancing DIkus in Viridan Forest.

You can get the other one later in the game. Rinnosuke can be traded for each of the two, and they come with his personal hold items (Kusanagi/Yata Mirror) so it's best to breed a few Rinnosukes before trading him off.

Top right is Isami. Bottom left is ExMarisa, and though you didn't ask, the bottom center is Satsuki. I think that team is hacked, or it's a snapshot of Puppet Play Enhanced

Pokemon difficulty is pretty front-loaded. After your EVs start piling up and you get to higher levels where they have a bigger influence the difficulty generally melts away.

Late reply

It's Enhanced, but the stats are different and more balanced than the ones listed on the Wiki.

One of the ingame traders has a Marisa which evolves into ExMarisa as soon as you get it, Satsuki is in a new area which you can enter after beating the Elite 4 and Isami is in Ilex Forest at the shrine, if you have a special item.

Is there anyway to randomnize the FR hacks?

I can get World Link/Emerald 1.8 working with the Emerald Specific randomnizer from here http://pastebin.com/ZaLBtPKk but I don't think the .jar works properly with the FR ones

I found this Lua script that could be ported too but I'm not sure what to replace http://pastebin.com/R2J0uMLM

Please help /jp/ I just want to be able to have a run where I can get wiped by SFlandres swimming in the water

Seems to be a lot of Pokemon hacks floating around. You know what I'd really like to see? A SMT Touhou hack. That would be neat. Chatting up touhous and convincing them to fight for you? Aww yes.

This one doesn't work.
it only half randomnizes and only 1/3 of the starters get scrambled. even on multiple patches you'll notice repeats of the same touhous too [Skomachi, Golliath, Diku]

>>9761336
they should! but if it was that easy we'd just be able to run the Emerald only randomiser and call it a day.

Something about Firered is a different, perhaps.

>> No.9764324

oh neat, just ran into a level 31 yuugi in yamame's (diglett's) cave. Problem: my highest touhou is lvl 20. Let's see if I can make this work...

By the way where is everyone? As for myself I'm right before the third gym with the team
- CReisen (20)
- CStar (20)
- CWriggle (20)
- CKeine (20)
- CParsee (17)
- CMomiji (16)

Wasn't so sure about the game but about at the 2nd gym things really kicked up. Having a blast. Hopefully I don't get wiped trying to catch this yuugi

Also your team is disturbingly close to mine currently at Celadon. Only difference is -Keine/Parsee for Patchouli and China.
