An incredibly in-depth Touhou RPG.
Previous thread: >>9688359

The translation for the Weekend version(same game, new changes) has been released.
Prepatched game with the expansion and translation can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?a8c1by6btaid7
Make sure to extract in Japanese locale or alternatively if you're having trouble running the game, try removing moonrunes from the folder names.

Weekend version introduces a rebalancing of learning and drop rates, most "1% or less" rates are now 10-15%. In addition most synthesis recipes now require slightly less materials and the Kusanagi sword requiring 25 less iron. You can actually build stuff pretty often now.

There's also a minimap, hit Select (Default D on keyboard) to toggle transparency!

You can also turn on easy mode at any time for non-boss battles where the damage is halved for you and you gain minor offensive bonuses. (Such as increased chance to land status effects)

The game also happens to run at 1/4th of the processing power it used to demand. Save games are compatible with 2.07 and up, but a save game converter should be able to help you out.

The death penalty of losing your gathered, but not yet claimed items, has been removed. You no longer need to exit the dungeon to claim your items, and death only means you get kicked out of the dungeon.

Have you had some trouble fighting a boss? Trying to make sense of stage design? Finding out that you need to split your party too late? Discuss it here in this thread!

In the last thread, someone said that poison, venom, and toxic were all the same thing, and you just apply stronger versions depending on how high your ind is and how low your target's res is.

Just how much ind do you need to get toxic? I have Satori's ind at almost 100, and even with Byakuren's ind buff on Satori, and res debuff on enemies, poison art/hand is still only giving me venom.

I just got to stage 17, is poison shield formation simply not obtainable until the post game?

Also, is there any reason why Nitori was the only one who didn't have their unique weapon material requirements reduced in weekend?

Have Byakuren buff her own ind before buffing Satori's ind. Great amplifying scroll might also buff ind, I'm not entirely sure. Sanae also has a party buff that raises the efficiency of buffs but I don't think you'll have it at this point. Make sure that the correct skill trees of satori and byakuren are maxed out. Put yourself in a IND buffing formation and use Youmu's commander skill to lower enemy RES.

I got poison shield pretty early on so it should be possible.

I got the Poison Shield formation immediately after stage eight. Try doing it in Koumakan against the fairy maids. I don't know what the threshold is for poison to venom, but toxic happens when you deal more than five hundred damage per turn with it. Five hundred or less and you'll get venom or poison.
If I heard correctly, it is Nitori and Satori whose unique weapon recipes weren't changed. Everyone else's should be easier.

That was when I decided to just go full melee and won with Alice, Sakuya, Youmu, Byakuren, and Sanae.

Taking them down without abusing their weakness isn't that hard, either, although I guess Sakuya's Great Maid helped a lot with it. The main thing to be worried about is Expanded Onbashira, which is like a column nuke, so Freefight or Sunshine Lunch are bad ideas.
>>9715720
Trial and error, basically. Just keep trying until you get something that works, and don't forget that:
1. you should kill the second form as fast as possible, if they take nine turns you most likely won't be able to beat the final form
2. if you did well in the second phase, the final form will be weak to the dark element and you'll be able to slay it with Youmu's Doujigiri Yasutsuna or a Kusanagi Sword
3. if the land is maximized for any element but light and dark, she will nuke you, even if it's at the first turn and you had just used Patchouli to reset it

>> No.9716596

I've run into a brick wall with the gorgon maids. I've been trying on and off all day but just can't get past them.

Mokou and Sakuya turn Akame into a joke.

For Chihiro, I have Nitori, Alice, Sanae, Byakuren, and Youmu. Alice keeps everyone from getting tentacle raped, Nitori puts electric on her attacks and then spams radiate, which usually hits 7-8 times with Sanae's accuracy buffs, Byakuren puts lightning on Youmu who goes to work with her strongest attacks. This usually works well as long as the RNG gods are on my side, and Nitori doesn't get hit with blind/death even through Sanae's res buff, or as long as Chihiro doesn't use acid storm twice in a turn and wipe my entire party even through Alice.

The big problem is Kagami. All her attacks hit like a truck, and Alice is already busy making sure the second team doesn't die. And her insane defense and physical resistances aren't making things any easier. Hitting her as hard as I can with Marisa, Patchy, and Satori, I'm still only able to deal 1500-2000 damage each round.

Everyone is in the high 40s right now.

What do?

Treat Kagami as a real boss. Use Alice, Sanae, etc. Throw up an appropriate barrier when she charges up.

Nitori can wreck Chihiro like Mokou can Akame. Buff her up with appropriate gear to protect her from stuff; put Sanae in the group if you need the RES, and pray. Once you get Kagami's fight down, and get hyper fang crush if you're a completionist, fight Akame first because of the luck involved.

I used Alice for the chihiro fight and simply used the massive defense buff formation for Kagami, the one that clumps everyone together with Byakuren at the center.

With the defense formation and Byakuren casting PATK down on Kagami, she literally became a joke. I think Reimu was also in that team as well so I was also able to heal pretty easily.

You need enough punch in the second phase so you can enter third phase perfectly with all relevant buffs already applied. You basically want Youmu to enter third phase with Dark Sword, patk up, manussya up, maybe some additional buffs, and keep covering her while she messes the boss up.
The boss is incredibly ruthless, you don't have many turns to survive. However Youmu's Paschal Moon reflecting slash is somehow capable of hitting 30k+, so you need a few good attacks and it's over. The same applies to the enemy.

After about 3 more hours of trying, I've still not beaten the gorgon maids. From what I'm seeing, it just looks like this part of the game has abysmally poor design. You have one Alice, but Chihiro and Kagami both require her to mitigate party wiping attacks. It's a cakewalk for whichever party get's Alice, and the other is just at the mercy of the RNG gods. I've tried defense formations with Byakuren's attack debuff in the party without Alice, but even with 146 ind and Byakuren's ind buff applied to herself, I've yet to see attack down trigger on Chihiro or Kagami even once. The only thing I can think of at this point is grind Reimu, my lowest level character at 46, up to 51 so she learns super duplex barrier for the party without Alice. If that doesn't work, I'm just going to delete my save file, 65 hours in, because right now, I feel like the only way to beat this is to win the video game lottery.

Alice, Sanae and Marisa versus Kagami. The trick is using a buffed Marisa to mystic-damage Kagami down, while guarding everyone with Alice. Marisa'll likely need extra mana.

An alternative to stop Maelstrom swirl octopus thing is to have Patchouli turn the land into fire, and equip Nitori and some others with water resistance, and attempt to quickly end the fight with Rage Eight and Lightning Weapon. Make sure to make Nitori the hardest target in the party.

It's not poor design, but it IS picky.
Put Alice, Reimu, Marisa, Satori, and Patchy on Kagami, Mokou and...someone else on Akame.
Chihiro is the toughest. What you need to do is realize that Nitori is the only person that needs to survive in that group. Buff her to high heaven, equip her with stuff that blocks whatever you can't buff against, and let her rip. If you can beat Akame without Byakuren, good; she's better at buffing a single person. The rest of the group is really just meatshields; try to keep them alive and hitting the boss as long as you can, but they're really just meatshields.

For Chihiro I mainly relied on Sakuya. Enchant her with lightning and use Private Square to make it so Chihiro can't use Octopus Maelstrom. It's risky because if Sakuya goes down then the rest of her group is going to follow, but if you make it then the other two fights won't be as bad. Kagami because you have Alice to block the attacks for others (And Reimu can nullify her charge attacks), and Akame, as others have said, can be taken down in a few turns if you use Mokou right

But the game does have some genuinely bad choices in it. Introducing new characters at level 1 is my biggest peeve. I know you can just stick them in the commander position, but still, it means that you don't REALLY get a new character until an entire dungeon after they joined you. There's absolutely no reason they couldn't have just made new party members join at the average level of all your current characters.

I also don't think Sanae and Byakuren were handled very well. Until the last couple stages, they've been largely useless outside of boss fights, with the exception of Sanae's res buff being needed against some enemies. But you still have to drag them around with you everywhere, because if they're not leveled when you need them to exploit a boss's gimmick, you're screwed.

Finally beat the maids by the way. Once I got super duplex barrier it was a easy. I don't know how I ended up under leveled for this. I've been full clearing every single area as I go through them with experience boosting accessories. Was the game balanced with the expectation of constantly dying and get kicked back to the overworld, making enemies respawn? I really haven't had any trouble outside of boss fights playing on normal mode.

>> No.9720288

If you're using both Reimu and Alice on Kagami, which is a good idea, you don't need to grind Reimu to Super Duplex Barrier. Regular Duplex Barrier combined with Alice's Little Legion will do just as well. Hell, considering how durable Alice is, Little Legion alone might be enough with proper gear; the magic charge up is shadow, the physical charge up is slash.

>> No.9720298

I guess they want you to feel the thrill of learning the new abilities one by one, rather than just load you with a character with 40 unknown abilities. At least they did balance the game so that underleveled character get many times the experience.

It's true that Byakuren was underwhelming for any regular encounters, but Sanae for a while early-midgame had her damage snake whip gimmick that lets her essentially hit all enemies for free since she drains the MP back.

You didn't have trouble with the enemies that can 1-shot most of your team? Petrification, Evolution Breath, ect, or the Angel/Demons with their Divine Barrier?

Sanae's buffs are good in random battles, and gets more so as the game goes on. Byakuren...well, you've got a point there. She needs to be paired with a badass attacker to be good.

What to do in the Alice+ Marisa fight? I'll start off by buffing Sakuya's attack and giving her the sword that slays Warriors/Transcendents/Magicians, and have her go to town on Marisa during private square. Huh? Her last word where she turns invulnerable? She even has that move as a boss? She never used it against me, maybe you're somehow triggering it.
Debuffing Alice may not work, she still has an absurdly strong shield with like infinite pdef (Mokou could not get through that, maybe with something that [Ignores shields]).
Kamikaze is not too dangerous, as its damage gets weaker, and Alice is shaving considerable amount off her health off every time.
I ensured a kill by silencing Marisa, and using tank Mokou to cast Xu Fu's Dimension on every party member, leaving Mokou out/last.

Get the big shields. Not the ones for specific for this or that element, the ruby/platinum/etc ones. They're very strong, can block just about everything, and you're not going to use pretty mirrors for much else anyway.

Character armors mostly aren't that great, and you're better off using the character-specific materials for weapons in most cases. If you aren't getting their weapons much, though, go for it.
Satori's robes are an exception to this. Get them; they've got lots of induction. The higher-level elemental robes aren't bad either, just for the damage boosts.

Do this. Get as much induction on Satori as you can. You should have an induction formation by now, and there's several commander spells that boost it or cut enemy resistance.

Try searching for はぢきせ. It turned up a lot of results for me.

Oh, god. I think I'm just gonna keep killing until Konpaku Flash activates. This is just too perfect.

Hmm...
Ganbatte, Aya-san!
Please get back up, Moko-tan?

So, I've been using satori a bit, and I wish to bump her damage up a bit. Is it better to use one of her last Eye weapons and the buff or simply give a staff?
Also, is it worth getting Mad Thunder/Thunderclap, Holy, Flare and Meteor for her? I've been using Hypnosis, Tornado, Acid Storm, Area Heal, Enervation and Shining Stars
If they are, I'm guessing Holy and Flare I can get from that ultra-flayer subquest, and which one and where should I get the Thunder spell?

Mokou... didn't get back up. I think I need to be more prepared for that particular farming session. They couldn't damage Mokou while she had Sanae's Def buff, but Sanae ran out of mana before Konpaku Flash went off, then they just tore right through everyone's health.
I need Sanae set up for aoe mp regen so I can keep her mp up.

Ah, so that's what is it! Thanks a lot for that. I guess I must have made a mistake while trying to type the title. Looks like pretty similar to DoSM too! Hachikuma's monster designs and OCs are all over the place it seems.
Hm, can't repay you, so here's all the versions of OUT that preceded the GoS and DoD ones:

Just used Last spring wind with Youmu, she was the last one alive. It went off twice, both being criticals.
Fucking Manyussa, man.

Give her a staff if you're going to use magic. The Terralightning/Rivalry Staff/Holy Grail/Gambanteinn will do wonders on her.

Mad Thunder, Holy and Shadow Flare are worth getting, yes. But as for Thunderclap, Flare and Meteor, these spells aren't really that strong.

Wow, how did you deal that much damage? Byakuren buffs and what else?

453 MATK, Holy, Holy Grail and light land at max.
