Why do people name themself in touhous or anime characters in online games?
It's so uncreative and lame and it's even worst when people roleplay as that character just to do lewd shit which has nothing to do with the actual character

>> No.9679767

>It's so uncreative and lame

usually because the person in question is uncreative and lame

Because they find it fun, and that's all that matters

Not to mention it's a way to put yourself out there as a fan without being obnoxious about it and spaming the series all over your profile. Fans know the characters, others won't care.

Picking a Steam game was probably not a great idea. One of the better things about Steam is you can change your name to anything you want, anytime you want.

Would you rather they spam Touhou memes everywhere and drive the name into the ground like Naruto fans and spam NARUTOFAN#1 all over the profile? This way they don't have to be explicit about it, fans of the series in question know the character, and other people don't know the character and it means nothing to them. I don't see how that's obnoxious.

And if you roleplay as the character while playing a roleplaying game...isn't that the point?

Yeah, I know. But it somehow really bugs me. It feels as if the person naming themselves after that character are trying to claim them or something, or use them to label themselves. That bothers me, even if it's kinda stupid I guess.

I see exactly what you mean. I just name myself as my favourite Touhou because I felt that I needed a name change and I couldn't think of anything. I know it sounds like a personal appeal, but I'm not trying to claim them or anyting, though I guess on some level I am using it to label myself (Or the aforementioned point).
