It's just contact paper. It's pretty easy to do yourself, just find a good picture, make an outline with PS and print it on the back. Then just cut it out with an Xacto knife/scissors. You'll want to rub the back of the contact paper with some sandpaper or steel wool before printing, it's got a waxy coat on it that will smear the ink.

There are many people who make music without touching an actual real instrument. Even though most of it is based with software, it helps to have a midi controller such as a piano.

Boy oh boy,

Welcome to to the wonderful world of pok... music.
It's the same thing, million and 1 things to remember to be the best.

You should learn piano alongside theory to get the best experience. The only point to learn theory outside of performance is composition.
If you don't want to invest any money, better start singing then, that works too. I advise against using your computer keyboard as a piano, it'll confuse you later.

For rhythm, clapping, whacking a bin with a stick is good practice.

I could go on and on, but in short, yes pick up and instrument and learn both alongside each other, whatever instrument is fine.

>> No.9637246

Yes that's fine and dandy, but spending the time to learn a real instrument will speed things up for him in the long run, I promise.

Hey /jp/, will I be able to make vocaloid songs and denpa stuff just with a synth?

>> No.9637350

>>9637316
Well if youre adamant about not investing any money then do it the cheap way, FL studio uses the keyboard like a piano, it's not too different, even though I said against it, it will give you an idea of INTERVALS which are the distance between notes, how they change the way music sounds and form chords.

There is no true best way, it all depends on what you want to do with music, but more importantly that you enjoy it and make stuff you want to make. If you have a logical mind it will come to you naturally, music and math go hand in hand.

>>9637282
Do you know how synths work? presets only offer so much and you'll get frustrated with the lack of variation fast. Unless you can work your way around said snyth and create your own unique sounds then Id advise against limiting yourself.

Well if you want to speed things up to get to the point where you can compose cool music then you need to do what I said originally. Actually playing and listening to music gives you ideas to create your own music.
If you want to just get straight into making music look up FL's tutorials on youtube and just copy what they do, learn by integration.

On avg I play for around an hour a day on the piano, and listen to music whenever I can, 8+ hours a day when not working.

>>9637362
>>9637358
Yeah, FL studio has a plugin called Vocodex, have a look for it, it alters voice to sound like robots, thought its still limited. I havent figured out how to be the little girl yet, You need a naturally feminine voice to make it easier.

To keep this thread on track here's a piece I wrote sometime earlier this year, nothing amazing, but it was done in FL studio with ONE sample. Keep things simple and you can still make alright music.

Are you fucking retarded? Construction is for understanding and utilizing planes. COPYING LIKE A FUCKING CAMERA IS WHAT YOU GET BY NOT CONSTRUCTING EVERYRHING YOU DRAW.

YOU DONT BREAK IT INTO GEOMETRIC SHAPES EITHER, YOUR SUPPOSED TO CREATE SPECIFIC SHAPES YOU MEMORIZE FOR EACH PART OF THE BODY. YOU KNOW WHY PEOPLE DONT IMPROVE FAST? BECAUSE THEYRE DUMB MUTHERFUCKERS THAT CANT FUCKING THINK. ART IS MORE RELATED TO MATH THAN LITERATURE.

THERE IS TALENT AND IT DEPENDS ON YOUR FUCKING IQ LEVEL LIKE EVERY OTHER SKILL GOR HUMANS. Sure you do need to practice a lot, but higher IQ always will trump your efforts. Just have fun drawing. If you aren't even enjoying what you're doing, why do it? Products don't even matter unless you're an attention whore. If there's feeling put into the work it's art. Making it look good is just a side bonus. Drawing is the mos enjoyable activity in the world.

Touching on the subject of art looking good requires an analogy. Let's create an environment where there are three individuals keen on learning how to draw. They do studies of humans every day. Person A does more than B and B does more than C. Assuming everyone has the same level of intelligence A would obviously have the greatest results. Who is the best artist then? God is.

None of the programming has been done. I'm trying to learn for the sake of the game. For that reason, I'd be willing to program with anything other than Python so long as the game runs fine and can be played on Windows and Linux distributions.

We have more work done aside from what is on the blog. We have a message board where we gather all of the information. We have an artist that makes pretty pictures, a sprite artist, and a guy that is working on music.

If we can get a team of programmers, the project will move along much faster. Otherwise it will be slowed down by my lack of experience with programming.

Anyone know where else I could go to recruit programmers?

Why is the artist drawing these if the game doesn't even exist yet? In my opinion it's like sewing a dress for a stranger without knowing their measures... I know everyone does things in their own way, but I'd put the game together first, use programmer graphics (placeholders) and then call in the artist. It just seems kind of unpractical to me

>and Linux
lol fuck Linux

I primarily use C++ and Java myself. As much as I hate saying it, Java is probably a good idea for a small game with inexperienced programmers that is multiplatform. I don't have any experience with Java game libraries though (I have more experience making games with pygame than making games with Java, although I don't like or commonly use python)

As for recruiting programmers, there's the amateur game dev threads on /vg/ is all I know, but taking the project off boards may garner hate from /jp/. There's a lot of programmers in /jp/ though. They might help if your project doesn't look like it's going to be dropped soon. You need to have more than just an idea and some art to start.

You should come up with one of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_design_document because programming haphazardly will lead to situations and wasted time. Doesn't even just have to be complicated, just a list of things you want in the game that will be mostly adhered to except when they need to be changed. It would take "is most easily described as a Animal Crossing type of game with elements borrowed from other games such as Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES and Harvest Moon." and specifically describe what concepts you take from each, as well as what you do in the game and things you probably aren't thinking of right now like what the controls will be and so on.

I don't know if you've done that or not already though.

Is your forum private or can you link it?

>>9647980
On the other hand, getting music and art is probably the harder part of indie games. Having access to that begin with will be better than ending up with something that resembles a roguelike unless you pay people to make art for it.

Takami Akai, the producer of the series and a co-founder of Gainax, announced that he would resign his position effective episode five, which aired on April 29, 2007, over comments that he made regarding posts on the Japanese Internet forum 2channel. Akai and another Gainax employee, Keiko Mimori, made disparaging remarks about comments criticizing the animation style of the fourth episode of Gurren Lagann, which was completely directed by guest and friend Osamu Kobayashi. With regard to reading the fan criticisms, Akai stated that it was "like putting [his] face next to an anus and breathing deeply." Fans later became aware of his comments, and he announced his departure from the company he helped to found.

Thanks for the response. I do have quite a bit more planned out, actually. Not much is on the blog right now. This was a solo project until last week, so I didn't really need a better way to communicate at the time.

Here is the forum: http://jpmilktea.freeforums.org/index.php

You'll need to make an account since guests can't view everything. Otherwise I could try uploading/sending a .rar archive with everything in it. It actually has a bit more than the forum currently has since I've just recently made the forum on Sunday to make communication easier.

At the moment, I'm adding a separate page to the blog that will explain the game better than trying to read through blog posts. I realize that I haven't had a good way to explain it posted beforehand. I'll work on a game design document now though.

Thanks for the tips.

I suppose the message board and the gathered information that it is based off of would qualify as game design documents. I've a folder with several sub-folders to keep everything organized. These folders have the artwork as well as descriptions for characters, locations, and important systems (time system, social system, gardening system, etc.) . The message board is just the same information copied and pasted so we can discuss each aspect in an organized manner. Also, most information there is available for guests to read now.

I'm keeping a folder of all Milk tea related images because I love it. And now I'm going to back up that folder on another computer and an SD card because I want this art to exist forever.

Maybe some day when I'm not a gigantic faggot and can draw I will mimic whoever drew that art.

Is that a sanic dick-ear pikachu?

I haven't taken drawing classes, and I like to think that I've gotten pretty good just drawing something every now and then. I've drawn things since I was little. Many people seem to put a lot of weight to the importance of practise and drawing regularly, but I think it's best to draw when you have a good idea or concept which you really want to draw. It also helps because you may already have an image of it in your mind so you know what to do. Go all-out, music helps.

Yeah it's Chrischan's sonichu medallion instead of the usual frog thing. And yeah that's a poorly drawn dick. I think the reason I can't really draw is because I haven't really studied like, anatomy and shit. I'm pretty stupid in general. Like, when I think of dicks? Nope. Sure as fuck ain't drawing mine.

Thank you for the advice, and is that something you drew in flockdraw or what? I wish I could draw anime porn.

You need to explain the core gameplay first before explaining various features like events. Go to the very basics, like how many buttons are needed for controls and what do they do, and what is the actual objective of the game, how to reach it and consequences if you fail, and so on.

Trying to figure out pointers with C++ is a pain. Try C, where you're pretty much forced to understand them - which surprisingly makes it a whole lot easier in the end.

You're quite right. I haven't made that completely clear. I've information regarding the focus of the game, but I need to revise it. Some more details have been shared with the team previously that explained things a little better, but not clearly enough. Thanks for your thoughts.

I realize that I don't have the game development experience that would be ideal for leading game development, but I believe I have the vision in my mind that could lead to enjoyable results. Furthermore, I will not give up on this project. I've been formulating ideas with some of my spare time for nearly a year now. Had I been more focused, I would have more done. Now that people have joined though, I've put a lot more time into /jp/ Milk Tea.

Isn't C# like java: the MS version?
Java itself is just C++ for dummies. You can get libraries to handle them for you in C++ too. Or you can learn to program. It's not really THAT hard.

>>9649368
I don't think buttons are really that a big deal that early on, but it should be decided if it's going to use keyboard or be able to use a controller, since a keyboard will allow lots of hotkeys. If it's a controller, then you need to assume it has ~10 buttons and limit the actions to that.

>>9650101

Some other things to note:
1. Make a map, if you haven't already, marking off where the locations are in relation to each other.

2. Decide and specify what sort of libraries you're going to use. It might be more worthwhile to learn how the use the libraries along with programming. It wouldn't take to long to actually have something to show once you've got your tools set up.

3. Decide how you're going to get multiple programmers to work together, how you're going to split up the tasks, etc. You might* want to look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_Subversion
*But you probably won't have many programmers and it might not be that big a deal, if you divvy up the tasks properly and have those who are responsible be the only ones allowed to change a file. Still, you have to be able to submit and compile everything into one game, so think about how you're going to make that happen.

4. It's a good idea to have some sort of feature checklist so you know what is implemented and what needs to be and what is working properly and what is not. By which I mean a single document/forum post containing them all collected so that it's easy to examine.

5. You might want to think about how you're going to test the game besides playing it directly. (e.g. a dev menu to test weather effects)
