> The idol phenomenon began during the early seventies, reflecting a boom in Japan for the musician Sylvie Vartan in the French film Cherchez l'idole in 1963
Wait, wait, wait !!

Are you saying that a french woman was somehow one of the trigger of the idol thing? I'm aware that wikipedia is trolling but wow, to that extent ??

I'm french mind you, but my feelings got somewhat hurt while reading this. I won't acknowledge something like this.
It's wrong... it's just wrong... on so many levels...

Well, where do you think anime came from? Doesn't sound that far-fetched.

>It's wrong... it's just wrong... on so many levels...

No it isn't. Most Japanese popular entertainment started off by imitating Western trends then slowly becoming more insular and distinctively Japanese. If this is news to you you should maybe read more or, you know, think more.

What else is it going to be? Do you think Japs invented pop music? Do you think the idol style of music actually originated in Japan? No one can be that stupid. If they didn't borrow from the West then Matsuda Seiko would've been a fucking enka singer. You just sound like a massive weeb. I can't wait till you find out that all Western "white people" music past 1920 comes from niggers.

At most the one original concept they added was literally making the singers "idols" in the true sense, but that's just because Japs are freaks. Also ancient Greeks did that first anyway.

Why so surprised? Japanese TV shows have had France Gall songs in their playlists for ages. And I suspect Yasushi "AKB48" Akimoto took alot of cues from Serge "Dirty Old Man of chanson" Gainsbourg, especially with his collaboration with France Gall.

Btw if you want scientific proof of this just go listen to popular Japanese music from the 50s and 60s. It's all ching chong dim sum shit. Then in late 60s/early 70s Western music becomes popular in Japan and suddenly Japanese music transforms into something very similar to the West. Coincidence? "Steal then put our mark on it" has been the Japanese mindset since at least the Meiji era

Op, you are seriously surprised? Japan has always been oppressive towards women. Idolizing women isn't exactly something that comes naturally to that culture.
