New thread, since the old one purged. Currently getting my ass handed to my by Yuyuko/Youmu, any advice?

>> No.9574316

You just really need to blitzkrieg the hell out of Youmu, Yuyuko isn't a big deal if you toss counter-death accessories on Alice. Also, I found Reimu in the party was an awesome addition since her light spells keep the land from going too far dark and giving Yuyu a massive heal.

>> No.9574362

Pick one of the four elements and spam spells of such element with Patchy/Marisa, have Alice shielding them often. After Youmu goes down your only worry will be Yuyuko's Death Spell, just have Alice cover someone with a spell and fire your most powerful spells in the turn you'll be sure to get a KO. You may want someone to do physical damage to Yuyuko as her PDef is quite low.

>>9574278
Yuyuko has like 70 evasion and some perfect dodge trait, with some decent magic defense, accurate melee attackers are the way to go, she has a pretty dangerous final attack that causes instant death, so be prepared for that.

I'm on the final stage, after I dealt with Lithos, I have the supposed final battle ahead of me, the wiki has discouraged me quite a bit. Is some kind of party level a requirement for even having hope, or perhaps certain equipment? Kusanagi sounds like too much of a grind. I'm around early 50s, does anyone have any hints for how big of a battle am I getting myself into?

Picture remotely related, the path to get through the faces with red eyes puzzle in Stage 20: Divine Temple/Great Temple, certainly a jerk puzzle.

>> No.9574521

The best way I found to deal with Yuyuko is to give Nitori a decent gun, 20 points in her gun growth tree, use her skill that changes the element of her attacks to fire, then spam her fire attacks (preferably with Patchouli boosting fire damage as well). I think you'll want an ACC buff from Sanae as well, but I don't remember.
>>9574444
Just keep trying until you have an idea of what you can do against them, I guess. I believe a few levels would be nice, so you can get Youmu's second last spell which can rip the final form in two if you have the Doujigiri (by the way, get that as well), but that's up to you.
Also, yeah, these final bosses are cunts.

The difficulty lies in finding a party split which allows you to eke out a win in the first phase and pick the essential touhous (at least Byakuren) for the horrors which follow in the last two phases.
I don't really know what kind of equipment is best, but e.g. the Awakened Soul on your damage dealer allows you to burn bombs easier. If the Kusanagi is in your reach (e.g. by fusing other materials into many Irons), you really should consider it. It makes the first half of the expansion a breeze and is one of the finest things you could shove in Reisen's hands (not in a dirty way!).

The most important thing is: strategy. The Goddess has some super nasty stuff. If you're very desperate about beating her, you might for example use Sakuya's Private Square to get a free round. I call that "the chef method".

Stage 18 is definitely the hardest stretch in the main game. First figure out what's in each route, and build your parties accordingly. You probably won't be able to cover everything on every route and still have functioning parties; just try to cover as much as you can, and run from whatever you can't.

Several times I have reached the final stage of the last boss, however I am unable to beat it.

This is with easy mode turned on.

As the boss gets 3 turns sometimes, I can't just marionette with Alice as her activations eventually run out when the boss decides to cast 3 all-hitting spells, and people drop, and too often vortex kills Youmu's damage output, forcing me to extreme downtime to get Youmu back to her feet.

Turns out easy mode does not reduce Minus damage. It's getting to the point where it doesn't feel fun anymore, I want to play the expansion. Please help.

>> No.9601491

>>9601356
Personally I used Aya, Reimu, Mokou, Marisa, and Satori for that fight. Sakuya was commander, but there really wasn't any point to that besides being the least useful character for the entire fight in my opinion.

Basically you want Mokou to Fujiyama Volcano the third sister. If you have a bomb accessory or something you can pretty much do your best to survive several rounds fairly easily while Mokou and Marisa slowly whittle them down. She should be doing around 5-6k damage per Fujiyama. Marisa should be doing somewhere around 1-2k with the right stardust attacks.

If you're got Mokou built for damage and have her double attack proc and 0 cooldown Fujiyama Volcano, you can potentially end the first part in 18 turns/3 sister loops.

Basically the first phase pretty much just consists of rolling defenses using Satori and Reimu. It will probably take you a bit to get used to the patterns, but once you do, you chould pretty much be invulnerable to all the sisters just by using Reimu and Satori smartly. Satori with various support skills like Refresh, Starlight barrier, and Leaf Shield and the such. Aya will be an EVA tank.

Basically you just want to avoid muscle revolution or Lithos's charm/petrify spell from fucking up your party. Those are the only real dangers of the fight really.

It's a battle of attrition after that.

It's been a really long time sense I beat GoS...but I'll try and give you some tips.
I found Aya to be the best tank for that fight. Use hinatori skydance, put her in the middle, and have her use her accuracy/evasion field. This should mostly handle Anastasia. Sence you're using Aya, Sakuya would be a good choice too. She can really play hell with the boss with that one skill that gets her a few free turns; time it right and give her enough bombs and the right point spread and you can totally skip one of this sisters; I forget who I did, though...whoever I could tear up the most with her Mabale...Mamble...that dagger from the instagib fairies in stage 20, I think.
I had Mokou on the first time as well. Don't have her burn
Anastasia, use her fujiwara volcanos on Biotopos or Lithos instead. I think I focused her on Biotopos.
I'm pretty sure my remaining two members were Marisa and Satori; Marisa because she could hit the weakness of whoever was up and boost fire, Satori for the same and also her healing and starlight barrier and leaf shield, which would block any hits that got through Aya's evade buff.

What exactly are you having problems with on the first phase? Also I'd refrain from the turtlesmasher and use the best fist you have for better damage against the last sister instead to save bombs. If you can get Mokou with 0 cooldown Fujiyama Volcanos and 6 bombs total then that should be enough for the first phase assuming Marisa isn't slacking behind, and Satori has a fire and lightning attack to supplement whenever she's not healing or supporting. Also I remember foregoing the ice stardust attacks on Marisa and just giving her the medium strength area attack fire and lightning spells so fire land went up relatively quickly.

If you're literally dying before you do enough damage then it's a problem with your defense, not your offense. If it's because you run out of MP or bombs then you're not killing the first form fast enough or using your resources right.

Sakuya becomes rather underpowered by end game in my opinion.

She's fragile as fuck, chews through her MP and bombs very quickly, and requires an accuracy buff to consistently hit anything.

And you can pretty much just pair Byakuren up with one of the other damage characters like Mokou and Youmu with an attack buff instead of an accuracy buff.

Now Youmu was OP by endgame. Defense wasn't too bad, has like 9 bombs naturally, and pretty much just destroys things with her skills which are already super accurate and have ludicrously high crit chances. She pretty much carried me through the Gorgon Barrier.

You need to finish phase 2 before they chant three times. In other words, you've got until the end of the ninth turn to do 50000 damage, though you can screw that up with Sakuya.
If you let them chant three times they'll immediately start stage three, and then you are FUCKED FUCKED FUCKED. The enhanced final form has 100000 more hp, 999 regain, no slayer weakness, a stronger divine barrier, and FOUR ACTIONS PER TURN.

What I did was throw everything party one had left at stage two before switching to the second party. The third phase IS brutal. Lots can go wrong very quickly, to the point that she'll always do SOMETHING to screw you over every time. Deal with it.
Three things to note. One, she's got vortex. I'm sorry. The plus side is that she doesn't use it terribly often. Two, you can't let a land gauge fill up all the way. If you do she'll drain it, healing herself for a ton and using a really strong attack on your whole party. Patchy is good in the second phase for that. Three, you should hit the ground running by buffing up at the end of phase two. Youmu should be able to finish phase two off very quickly if your first party softens it up enough; you only need to kill it by the ninth turn, and a turn 8 kill is just as good as a turn 5 kill.

Twice. Once when Byakuren was one level lower than she needed to be, and again at the final boss, when Youmu needed TWO more levels and I wanted the Kusanagi. THAT'S IT. About an hour and a half's worth of grinding, maybe two hours, give or take.

It just happens to be strong against the regular final boss's final form. At least you still need material to make it. Plenty of other RPGs just give you the endgame weapon in a chest or cutscene before the final boss. How does additional grinding make it better?

Shucks, it'd have been cool to have Kusanagi upgrade to Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi (Heaven's Cloud Sword, its more formal name). You need all the powerup you can get to hope to brave the bonus dungeon.

Weekend was probably only released because they realized the amount of bullshit the game had. Abysmally low drop rates for pretty much everything and you need 30 of an item to make something? I doubt that you'll get to that number of Iron by the end of the game even if you don't craft anything. Same thing for Satori's skills, what the fuck were they thinking with that 1% rate?
People are only complaining about how much easier the game is in that regard because bullshit mode came first.

Anyway, I assure you that the difficulty of the game, outside of the drops, is the same old thing.
>>9606564
I agree that dropping it to only 5 Iron is too much, in my opinion about 10 or 15 would be enough, especially given the higher drop rate of it in Weekend.
Also, the drop rate changes are all better. The old patch basically doubled it on all for the basic materials and nothing else; Weekend's raises it for everything and they get higher with stronger monsters as well.

Urgh...I don't like the sound of that. I mean, I want a higher drop rate for the stuff from those stage 21 minibosses, and a basic material boost is good, but...that's pretty much it.

All you need to do is change your party often (once every dungeon is enough) and put whatever new character you got in the commander slot for a dungeon or so, and you'll never have to grind levels. The only things you needed to grind in 2.x were items and Satori's skill, and those have been made a lot easier in Weekend.
>>9606527
And this is why Weekend exists.
>>9606949
I find the game a lot better like this, with the difficulty being focused on dealing with enemies, bosses and whatnot instead of a heavy resource management. Before Weekend, you weren't allowed to experiment with new weapons or equipment at all, since one mistake meant you would be short in materials for the really useful stuff later on, and this is so bad that plenty of people completely ignore the whole crafting part of the game because of that (and then end up having to grind more Iron anyway for the Kusanagi). With Weekend, you should have enough items to make at least the most useful weapons, I guess, if not most of the equipment with stats that could be useful at the point you're stuck.

Also, obviously, Satori. Don't tell me you enjoyed grinding for her 1% skills (which were often completely useless, like all elemental breaths).

You make it sound like they raised all drop rates to 50% or something around that. While it is true that you will see drops more often, they didn't get common enough for you to be drowning in them. At least, now grinding can be a good way to get those items that had 0.1% drop rates in the past.
The only absurd changes happened with the basic expansion monsters, in my opinion. For example, fairies in the second Muenzuka have a 25% chance to drop the basic materials.

And... yeah. Now that you mention that, the game surely feels less thrilling -- I mean, if you want a quick way out of a dungeon to heal up, all you need to do is hit F12, then step on a healing circle and go back in again. They could have solved this kind of issue by making the healing system like in DoD: you die wherever, okay, you can go back to where you were, but if you want to heal your MP back up, every monster you've killed will respawn.

Some of Rinnosuke's gear is worth it, some of it isn't. The unique weapons for Sakuya, Mokou, Youmu, and Nitori are all good. Don't buy weapons for other girls; they can use staves just as well. You'll probably want the best evasion fan for Aya, the induction scroll for Byakuren, and Alice's rainbow greaves at some point, though. Marisa's brooms can be worthwhile too, but not to a large extent.
Most of the armor isn't worth it. Generally if you're buying a character's unique weapons, you shouldn't be buying them unique armor. The accessories can be worthwhile, though, especially the runestones and defensive things.

Sakuya's armors actually let her atack twice in a turn, even though it's a rather small chance. No idea of how it stacks (if it does) with her passive double attack with two-handed swords, but with them on you can doublecast skills and whatever else. They're pretty neat.
The early goheis aren't anything special, but the latter ones definitely increase her damage a lot.
>>9610195
Satori needs some grinding to get her blue magic (considerably less so in Weekend, as some learning rates got a 1000% or higher increase), but you can still do somewhat well early on with her with Poison Arts alone. Just get her as much IND as you can, +poison damage equipment, and use that whenever you can.
Youmu needs to activate a stance to use the skills in that stance, after that she's one of the best damage dealer sin the game.
