Sometimes I wonder. The people playing modern video games, the ones who buy several games a year, not just a few special ones, but whatever they're fed, what is it that drives them to play so many games in such a relatively short amount of time? I've played Diablo 2 for years, yet I hear people say they got tired of Diablo 3 after just a few months. Don't people delve into games anymore? Is it because of the games or because of the people?

To address your question, most people play modern games for the epic cinematic experience and Oscar-worthy stories. Once you go through all 4 hours of the campaign, they become pretty much worthless because there's no depth to them. Of course, good games still come out every once in a while.

Playing TERA turned out to be a somewhat sad experience. They really did well with the combat -- I really thought it would not work before playing it -- and has set a new standard that new games will try to beat, but it does everything else so fucking horribly it hurts my heart.

I was playing Persona 3 too, but I found out my PS2's disc drive ribbon peeled and left a giant ring of scratches around the outside of the disc. It still loads the part I'm on now, but it won't load the opening movie, so I'm afraid to play further in case I get to somewhere that it can't load.

I went and made myself a desktop so I could enjoy playing shit like Persona 3, Gust games, and Rune Factories, Tales, etc.
I've been trying to play more modern popular games like Crysis, Do Sex, and Skyrim with my newfound computing power, but for some reason, I just can't get as engrossed in them as I do when I am surrounded by cute anime-style girls.

Its a great fighting game, so if you are into the genre it is definitely worth checking out.

If you don't care for fighting games I don't think it would be worth it, it doesn't really have any 'casual' modes aside from Story Mode (Supposed to be ~30 hours for full completion, but I personally haven't done it yet)

Its kind of like an inbetween of Guilty Gear and Blazblue

Not as hardcore as Guilty Gear, but doesn't have the things people disliked about Blazblue.

The inputs are fine with me, its just that the only special motion in the game (aside from mitsuru's charge moves) are quarter circles. There are no SRK motions, 360s, half circles, etc. Reversals are universally a two button command, and not all of them function the same.

The visuals are fine, and not every female in the game is oversexualized like Blazblue so it doesn't come off as 'weird' to normies, the characters are likable, the mechanics are solid (they didnt necessarily bring anything new or innovative to the table, but you don't need to to have a great game). And also there is no silly come back mechanics, when a character reaches like 30% HP they enter "Awakening Mode" and receive 50 meter, their maximum meter amount increases, they get a new super and access to their Instant Kill, along with damage reduction whenever they get hit, but it is a very intelligent 'come back mechanic' IMO, you can bypass the mode all together if you take your opponent from 31% HP to 0% HP in one combo, so it leads to making smart decisions about maybe sparing their life, but keeping them out of awakening mode so you can kill them easier with a reset/etc

Basically its all around a good fighting game, it's been one of the top games in Japanese arcades since its release there many months ago, and was the best selling fighting game in the last 10 years on consoles there, which promises it some longevity.

Its an Arcsys game, of course the animations aren't good, but the visuals are attractive enough to not mind the animation so much, the overall 'theme' of the game is similar to persona games and it just looks pleasing to most people.

I'll admit, the controls felt awkward when I first picked it up, having all those things tied to 4 buttons felt weird, but you get used to it and now I think its pretty good.

Hourai Gakuen no Bouken!

Really great SNES gem. It's like Earthbound meets Final Fantasy meets generic high school anime.

Well I find that the only thing it really changes is the amount of bad players that can now mash DP much easier, and also there is no need to do a DP motion on the correct side if someone is crossing you up.

It only changes things for beginners because if you have been playing fighting games for a while and are any good at them, any motion should be extremely easy/quick. This way just gives new players more time to focus on the game instead of the execution
