In the /pol/ mind everything that is somehow connected to the word β€œcivilisation” is white and naturally blond.

There are others as well. Couple of universities got fed up with ancient astronaut conspiracy theorists translating cuneiform anyway that kept the boat afloat.

Not quite, it happened a while before his time. But yeah, that's the general idea.

They just want to believe. Why are universities so mean?

>> No.9579971

>>9578702

Why? Well... I'd say it's because in a way, the truth is often more wondrous and fascinating than the belief.

By providing the whole of known Sumerian litterature without the modern mystical shimmer, people are given the opportunity to appreciate the accomplishments of our ancestors, without today's accumulated knowledge, in their own right. You can see that there is a highly accomplished literary culture as old as 4000 years, millennia older than widespread litteracy. There are literary heroes that parallel those of our own time, who - for all their claims of divinity - openly and without shame display highly human fears and weaknesses, and ponder and struggle with the human condition in ways that modern heroes often smooth over. You can read the mythical parts and see how they have seeped on through into younger religions, emphasizing again how pointless their often bloody disagreements are when they so often rest on the same ground.

In every way but the existance of extraterrestrial life, the fact of our ancestors accomplishing this on their own is more wondrous than the belief of our ancestors being helpless without aliens to pile rocks for them.

Although I got to admit, the modern image of Gilgamesh dogfighting Lancelot surfing on a Tomcat is pleasing in ways the original epic isn't.
