Mothra's first appearance in '61 was pretty much the Yang to Godzilla's Yin. Where as Godzilla's first appearance was gritty and dark, Mothra's film was considerably brighter in both design and atmosphere. It stood out from the previous films of Honda.

Then Mothra appeared in Mothra vs. Godzilla which essentially kicked off the whole Godzillaverse (Godzilla did fight Angilas and King Kong in previous films, but Motha vs. Godzilla left more impact on the series as a whole)

I would say Mothra is a good kaiju.

Mothra is to Godzilla what the Daleks are to Doctor Who. Poorly-designed, dumb monster, only recurs in the series because of the initial popularity and nostalgia.

She's basically one of Godzilla's arch-nemeses at this point, which is dumb because there are better kaiju that have barely been seen since their initial appearance.

You're not giving any examples for why Mothra is an objectively bad kaiju. Gidorah sells in Japan just as much as Mothra, yet he has never had a decently executed appearance since the 90's (and that's pretty much because people find the idea of a "Mecha" Gidorah hilariously fascinating)
