Who cares if they write their own songs, anyway? Do they play the instruments and handle the production too? I'm not saying musicians should be sound engineers, but there are millions of musicians out there who can actually make music by themselves. These girls just fit into a given template, whose criteria is that: a) they're pretty, and b) they can sing or be made to sound like they can sing. They're completely replaceable, right down to the fact that they all look the same.

Anyway there are a lot of great Korean indie bands that sound nothing like the mainstream stuff. Of course the mainstream stuff is what made it internationally. Not to mention their mainstream stuff sounds like US and UK mainstream songs only in Korean.

Kpop is starting to sound the same. And what sucks is that the Koreans are actually getting girls that can sing really well and still choose to autotune or whatever their voices to death. Why do that?

In the USA a lot of the older girl groups had no way to digitally alter their voices. They sounded as crisp and clean live as they did on the track. I'm not saying voices shouldn't be heavily altered (a lot of songs I love that do it), I'm saying not everyone needs it.
