That's right and wrong at the same time.

Korea wants to be the best but they aren't open to the west (the general public) and they are racially insensitive (1 in every 5 kpop stars has said something negative about a black person or had a misunderstanding about black people)

Japan is much more welcoming to foreigners and foreign thoughts than Koreans who often boast about being "pure" and "homogeneous".

Also didn't perfume just make a song for the English market?

Glorious Japanese mentality towards marketing their music:

Anyway there are a lot of great Korean indie bands that sound nothing like the mainstream stuff. Of course the mainstream stuff is what made it internationally. Not to mention their mainstream stuff sounds like US and UK mainstream songs only in Korean.

Kpop is starting to sound the same. And what sucks is that the Koreans are actually getting girls that can sing really well and still choose to autotune or whatever their voices to death. Why do that?

In the USA a lot of the older girl groups had no way to digitally alter their voices. They sounded as crisp and clean live as they did on the track. I'm not saying voices shouldn't be heavily altered (a lot of songs I love that do it), I'm saying not everyone needs it.

I'm tired of saying this: South Korean culture has developed entirely by absorbing the American and Japanese ones.

There is absolutely nothing original being made in Korea. They are a mass producing factory of singers and dancers completely indistinguishable from one another. They are desperately emulating American trends while also trying to maintain a Japanesey image for their idols.

It is really sad because unlike most other cultures, Korea has almost completely abandoned their own tradition to accept foreign influence until only an ugly chimera is left. And I'm just talking about music, but I could expand on other things.

There are no "good" Kpop groups. K-Pop is not a music genre, it's just a marketing tool. lol what? Khun hitting and driving? Drunk?

i find it funny because its probably because of him that foreigners suddenly got the idea that they can become celebrities in Korea too.

they seem to forget that Khun was from a arich family and is good looking and his SKIN IS WHITE.

Kpop is over bro.

In the end, they are idols. They're even called idols

Of course Koreans are notorious for being copycats, of course Korean culture is close to non-existent in South Korea at this point and of course Japanese music is more sophisticated. But that's not relevant. The music is catchy, the girls are attractive and most of them work relatively hard to put on good performances. Just give 4chan a damn /kor/ board so fans and haters alike can stop their suffering.

>>9568785
Their last few albums and singles have been terrible, they'll never recover. KARA, T-ara, Girl's Day, After School and the like have been filling the gap just fine.

SNSD hasn't been about music since Gee and Genie came out they are known for their personalities now except for TaeYeon. All the groups you mentioned but KARA seem like they are going to flop soon.(Which is sad cuz I like girls day)

Orange Caramel are going to make their Japanese debut next month which could go either way even if their title song seems really mediocre. Girl's Day is one of my favourites as well but their management is extremely poor. How they can go from Nothing Lasts Forever to Oh My God is just absurd. Their best song doesn't even have a proper video.

Last but not least, I don't think T-ara will disband. Hate them though, way too many members and they don't even bother with dancing. The bully thing is just the icing on the cake.

I hope you're being ironically dense because Aqua and others perfect examples of the difference between American pop and European pop (which is more influenced by trance/house/techno). And there are tons of country specific styles as well, like Italo-dance, French house/club, German techno, Britpop (all mainstream), etc.

I actually prefer Twinkle Twinkle out if all of the GD songs and Minah and Yura are my favorite members.

I support OC too but the Japanese song doesn't sound as appealing as Magic Girl.

You don't do that where I live either. Mostly because there are little to no parallel parking spaces where I live, and you don't need to get on the highway.

It's simple.
Korean music is just western music in korean.
There isn't any trace of korean culture left either, it's all american garbage and christianity.
Some politicians want the same to happen in Japan too, but that's another story.

Just that we're clear about this, Korean "international success" comes exclusively from Japan.

Count Japanese and Korean markets together, and native Japanese artists are suddenly exporting much more music outside of it. For many reasons that seem to have been already mentioned in this thread.
