OP here. My plan was to rewrite The Colour of Outer Space as a short-ish VN. I've already done some outlining, I stopped short of the script writing because I didn't think it would matter since I had no one to work with who knew VNs and wasn't a shitty weeaboo.

If we're going to do this I want the VN to be creative and break the mold. Katawa Shoujo wasn't all that great

You're judging an engine by two games.

Renpy is the only halfway decent VN engine with English documentation. It has its warts, but can also be bent to do almost anything, and the documentation's far better than any other engine for Westerners to use.

Understand that released content is portfolio for any engine out there. How else would you know if you can make something good out of the engine if there is none? Shitty VN as it may be, if it shows the capabilities of the engine, I don't see how it matters that the content is severely lacking.

How about a VN without cute girls or anything the horny losers vent their frustrations at. The VN would rely on storytelling and art alone.

Surely a ground-breaking formula within it's genre.

I don't know why everyone who comes with such a suggestion never wants to do the actual work. There are always enough people with ideas. Nothing will be done until youself do it.
