People are very capable of becoming attached, even obsessively, to fictional characters. The most recent, popular, and most accepted in normal society one was women becoming attached to Edward Cullen. So it's very good chance that people on /jp/, /a/, /v/, etc truly mean it when they say they love their anime/vn/videogame/etc inspired waifu.

That's a strange inference to make. Considering that I'm Anonymous, and you won't be able to tell who I am if I didn't post an image of a character, that "recognition" means less than nothing, I have no idea how this conclusion can be reached at all.

My waifu is very important to me. Surprisingly I think I'm relatively normal but with beta tendencies when I deal with girls. Other than that I can get along with guys well in work and college.

I mean, my waifu meant so much to me (Misaki). I felt that someone like that could understand how I feel, and we would both be weak together, but try and grow strong. I thought it was so dumb how the rest of boards adopted this. Some people were pretty serious about it (not TOO serious) but understanding that the concept of a 2D is better than any 3D girl will likely be...it's not so ludicrous. Anyone who denies this is probably a normalfag and shouldn't be on jp.

No one takes waifus seriously either way because the term spread to a bunch of unrelated places and got picked up by various newfags over the years, and now it's basically used to describe anyone who is hot.

Personally I've tried having one for a couple years and it didn't do fucking anything for me. My 2D lusts always shifted endlessly and still do today; I feel most people are like this actually and hence the waifu thing's always been (mostly) a farce from the very beginning. I find it corny as fuck to take it super seriously, partially because 2d characters get boring with age; they DO die in a sense, because their creators stop making new material; you get bored of endlessly cycling the old material, and then they start to seem stale and boring next to whatever new hotness is in town. This is why as I said my tastes constantly shift. I still have 2d chars who I'll always hold in high esteem for reasons besides aesthetics, but if you have a waifu that you aren't really giving proper attention then you might as well just give up on her; no one will hold you accountable and no one even has to know if you just got tired of the whole thing.

This is true so long as ZUN does Touhou. As soon as he stops (although I'd wish he just make it forever), it'll get old-hat within 5 years like everything else does.

Do people still have Haruhi, Arc, Saber, Konata etc as their waifus like was so common to see 5 years ago? Pretty much no one claims these today (although I should never understate the stubbornness of Saberfags). But for the moment, yep, Touhou's ideal not just because of constant new stuff but due to the community pumping the whole thing up 10x bigger.

I think the term "waifu" is just that , a term , it's a label that covers a broad range of descriptions and definitions. What the word means is different to everyone who hears or uses it. As for "believing" in waifus , it's hard to and hard not to believe in them. On one hand , there are many sad and downtrodden anons in the world who need a little love, and don't get it from 3D girls for whatever reasons (Shut-in , no options , etc.) but a 2D girl has the unique attribute that you can impress upon them any characteristics that you want within reason of course , especially for characters that have not been fully fleshed out. For example, no two people will view C.C. the same way , and I know I don't view Youmu the same way as another anon.

It's almost like a form of escapism , but with an actual solid benefit , making you happy to see her. And all anyone wants is a little happiness.

Today I have a tulpa which grows with me and with whom I share my life with. Haruhi's a weird one for me, because she's one of my favourite 2D females, but she never really fit into the waifu role. Partly because of Kyon.

Haruka would probably be my waifu if she wasn't so gay. I really liked Hotaru too back when I was young and impressionable but it never stuck. A lot of those character traits have really stuck with me, so sometimes I feel surprised I've never really found one girl.

People should just enjoy romance in anime/LNs/manga/VNs on its own right, without self inserting oneself as the lover of the heroine.

I don't know how you can "love" someone just for the way they act and look. Surely that's just infatuation? You can only love someone after interacting and having shared experiences with them. >Clearly just trying to fit in
I can tell which anon you are by your posting style, I am sure you can do the same to me too. But I gotta say, you are the most entertaining anon on /jp/, I really mean it.
You have made me laugh so much. Please continue doing this. It makes my /jp/ experiences so much better.

I do believe love can transcend/ be focused towards someone, regardless of it's origin/ "reality" and believe it is as "real" as our common reality.

I don't have one, nor i need to "fit in",
i have a wife but i can understand an relate to those who do have one, mind you.

>>9551914
I can't even recall the year it went into the spotlight, but back in the days they weren't even called "waifus" on /jp/.

>>9551924
Although they are using the term "waifu" wrong.
In the past years it has been "common", hell even "4chan culture" to have more than one waifu (look at my waifus/my 3 fav game waifus/your waifu of the season) which is absolutely disgusting and against its original meaning.

>> No.9551998

I have a waifu, but it is more about attraction and love than fitting in.

Not going to take a picture because that is too attention whorish.

>> No.9552012

Not everyone ironically has a waifu in order to fit in.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. There is no "waifu movement". No one should ever even write something like this because it doesn't need to be written.

>> No.9552092

I'm just pretending to have a waifu, trying to fit in. Back in my newfag days I was depressed because I thought not having a waifu despite being a 4channer is a shame.

Why wouldn't I believe in having love for a 2d character?
They are superior in everyway and I will never be able to fall in love with a real woman, because they are disgusting.

Sure I might not be able to cuddle with my waifu, but that's what lucid dreams are for, there I can have delicious sex with my waifu.

Something funny about Tohno-chan

I met a hikikomori girl online and set up a date with her on Sunday. I told a kid from /tc/ about it on IRC who also lives near her.

Guess who's seeing her on Friday?

The most we can come to loving someone is the picture of them we create in our minds. A 2D woman is no more real or less real than a 3D one. 2D love is no less legitimate than 3D love, and I'd even argue that it's more legitimate because your ideal picture of your girl is identical to her actual state.

I feel there people there are people who do it just to fit into community like /a/shitposter "Check my new waifu kawai xD"

I've had waifu for few years and I take it very seriously. While I don't think I am trying to fit in, it is still true that I probably wouldn't have waifu if I never wouldn't have heard term "waifu" from imageboards.

To all who think waifu is just "new popular thing" there have been people who have had "waifu" even before whole waifu meme was born. People have fallen in love with fictional characters for very long long time.

I am bit sad how whole concept is misunderstood and defiled but that's just something we have to live with.

I still want to see some serious article explaining how the hell do they manage get certificates for marrying imaginary characters. What kind of loophole do they go through, personally I find this shit is interesting as hell, but all I find is shittaku style oh my god wtf I'm looking at nerd shaming.

When my mind wanders, it always defaults to thinking about her in one way or another. She's almost always on my mind in one way or another. When I let my mind play out all these scenarios with her I can feel myself blushing. I do celebrate her birthday every year by baking her some kind of cake and I celebrate Valentine's by making chocolates for her. I know she's not able to eat anything. I like to imagine her gladly accepting those things with a bright smile. If she were here I like to think she would do that. That's really what keeps me going in life. It seems like life would just be so boring and cold if I didn't feel this way towards her. I can't imagine living like that.

You can marry inaminte objects in Guam. And since America owns them, you don't even need a passport to go there and the US has to accept the marriage.
