You're new aren't you? If you want to see real shipping/customs rape go see Amiami. I always use EMS but Mandarake has never screwed me on shipping or customs. Their shipping estimate chart is fairly reliable. The somewhat haphazard packaging isn't as good as Amiami's cardboard spacers and heavy boxes though. But a real figma is around 200-300 grams. Maybe they sent you an oversized box because they ran out of smaller ones? If you aren't fucking new you should have a good idea of how much your actual stuff weighs and guesstimate your box/pack weight from previous orders of that size. It really depends on the weight of the item so if you ordered something really heavy then that's that. There's also the 500 yen handling fee for the order being under 5K. Although it's never happened to me yet they apparently derp sometimes by using much larger boxes than necessary but even then I don't see how that would rack up such a drastic rate. You should always check that the shipping makes sense though and alert them if you think something is fucked up. If you're paying 4K yen in shipping it should correspond to a weight of about 1.75-2kg (N.A. chart est.). A nendo or figma (300g~) stuffed in an oversized box still wouldn't come close to that.
