Rika tried to save her parents in the early timelines but failed to do so. Eventually Hanyuu's resets couldn't reach far back enough let her even try to save them. >> No.9549940

Well, you know, getting killed hundreds and thousands of times and having to relive it over and over does make you a bit jaded. In the end, jaded pretending-to-be-cute (and pretending-to-be-witch) Rika was still a good and human person. That’s why I disliked the Bernkastel personality in Umineko.

And the TIPS that were excerpts form the diary of Rika's mother show that she was a hysterical, controlling bitch that hit her daughter when she didn't act the way she wanted her to. It's no wonder that Rika treated Hanyuu as a surrogate mother and was distant to her biological mother.

>> No.9550013

I'm going to have to extend my sympathies to her there. I wouldn't want my daughter being tampered with by the shadow government either.

>that hit her daughter when she didn't act the way she wanted her to
Sounds about typical for Shouwa 53. Keiichi had his ass kick for shooting people in the face. Rena got bitch slapped because she called some other guy daddy. Shmion had her fingernails ripped out.

Rika just wasn't mature enough to understand the wisdom in not getting involved with the secret police. She may think that she was a worn out 100 year old woman, but she was just a spoiled little kid at heart.

Rika's mother was was opposed at first, but let it slide. Her father had to talk her into letting Rika get a spinal tap. The Rika got sick and concluded that the whole business was too shady and that the concept of Rika being a Queen Carrier of a social parasite that would drive the entire village insane within 48 and need Rika's help to stop was completely ridiculous (imagine not believing that!), and that their business should be concluded before things went too far.

Then Takano decided to vivisect her and kill her husband for no real reason, and that was the end of THAT. She was right, it was a bad move to deal with the Yamainu.

>> No.9550075

>>9550013
It was for a medical research and her mother overreacted as she thought that any illness Rika suffered had to be due to her assisting with the research. And I was referring to her general behavior towards Rika and her paranoia that the village was secretly teaching her things behind her back.

As for the beatings, K1 got beaten after blinding a little girl. The Sonozaki were criminals that liked to torture and disembowel people who slighted them, so not what I'd call normal parents. And the situation Rena's parents were in was pretty fucked up as well and fucked her up. Rika's mother hit her because for example Rika didn't seem exited when she offered to cook her a meal she liked.

And without Rika helping the research, it's likely that Satoko would have died. She did it to save her friend.

>> No.9550123

>>9550075
>her paranoia that the village was secretly teaching her things behind her back.
Well.... they were. They were telling her that she was god and that she could see the future. That is not a good way to have a child be raised.

>Rika's mother hit her because for example Rika didn't seem exited when she offered to cook her a meal she liked.
It wasn't so much what she said as much as how she said it. She had already decided to stop caring about her parents at that point and was annoyed by them. Anyways, it's still not that out of the ordinary. It was 1983 in Asia.

>And without Rika helping the research, it's likely that Satoko would have died.
Being a necessary evil is not the same as being a good. It was and continues to be wise to not allow yourself, and especially your children, to get involved with such shifty people.

>> No.9550162

Her reaction of taking out her frustrations on Rika only served to make her more distant. Her general attitude only caused her daughter to become even more alienated from her. Hanyuu in one of the TIPS said that Rika had a bad relationship with her mother even in the first world which shows that she was a bad mother and it wasn't just Rika becoming cynical after dying multiple times and brushing her off.

Irie was telling the truth regarding their experimentation. Rika's mother was the one that overreacted die to something that had nothing to do with the tests Irie was doing.

>> No.9550193

>>9550162
>Rika had a distant relationship with her mother
Having a bad relationship with her child doesn't make her a bad mother. It shows an inability to connect, which isn't surprising because Hanyuu was already being a mother figure and her real mother couldn't compete.

>Irie was telling the truth regarding their experimentation.
Rika's mother had no way of knowing that. Irie's case for being an honest case doesn't look good when you have Takano and her crew of murderer (who Rika's mother noticed were armed) running around the place either.

>Rika's mother was the one that overreacted die to something that had nothing to do with the tests Irie was doing.
It wasn't an overreaction at all. If your loli were being experimented on, then got sick, it would be only natural for you to assume that there was correlation between the two, and since the the tests came first, it isn't a huge logical leap to say that they caused the sickness.

>> No.9550234

>>9550193
This is a chicken and egg question I suppose. Did Hanyuu's presence cause Rika to be distant from her mother or did her mother's behavior drive Rika to Hanyuu? The behavior of Rika's mother certainly exasperated the problem even if you think Hanyuu started it. I'd say the fact she pushed her daughter away with her behavior shows that she wasn't a good mother.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc is a logical fallacy. It's not as if there's any medical basis for thinking that a lumbar puncture causes flu after all.

>> No.9550286

>>9550234
>I'd say the fact she pushed her daughter away with her behavior shows that she wasn't a good mother.
She did try to reconnect. Rika didn't care for her efforts... and got hit.

>Post hoc ergo propter hoc is a logical fallacy. It's not as if there's any medical basis for thinking that a lumbar puncture causes flu after all.
I think you expect to much from her. Consider: the bitch is a Shintoist, living in one of the most backwards parts of Japan, worshiping a stupid god who follows no rules, and believes that demons are responsible for everything (and even calls her husband a heretic for disagreeing!). It is strongly implied that the females of the Furude family don't leave Hinamizawa for any long period of time. How educated do you expect her to be?

And just looking at it from her perspective with the data she had, it was perfectly rational to conclude that (A->B).

>> No.9550306

I think Rika was distant from her mother because she had to live again and again every thing her mother did, and she became bored of it. So I would think it's rather because Rika became distant that her mother became like this.

Repairing a damaged relationship takes time. Giving up and hitting your child when your first overture fails isn't an indicator of good parenting skills.

And your justification isn't exactly painting a flattering portrait of her. You're simply excusing her ignorant behavior by saying her bad decisions are due to her being born in the boonies.

>> No.9550320

Here's how Hanyuu describes Rika in the original world before she started dying: "Other than having a poor relationship with her mother, Rika was a pretty normal young girl back then."

It wasn't Rika becoming jaded from her deaths that caused the rift with her mother; that simply exacerbated it.

>> No.9550356

I'd say not. In Rei, with the sinless world, Rika and her mother were still distant. Remembering and admitting this has done a great deal of damage to my argument that she wasn't a bad parent. I'm not sure that recovery is now even possible, so I shall scrap it.

>>9550308
>Repairing a damaged relationship takes time. Giving up and hitting your child when your first overture fails isn't an indicator of good parenting skills.
Point conceded.

>And your justification isn't exactly painting a flattering portrait of her.
I'm not trying to. I'm saying that she was acting in good faith by being concerned with what the Irie Institute was doing to her.

>You're simply excusing her ignorant behavior by saying her bad decisions are due to her being born in the boonies.
It wasn't even so ignorant. There are a bunch of dangerous fellows, a pathetic doctor, and a bitchy, bully nurse claiming that Rika is carrying a ridiculous disease, and then Rika got sick after they began testing on her. She didn't blink and then a plane flew over and conclude that she caused planes to fly by blinking, she saw an ambiguous organization doing ambiguous things, and her sick daughter and concluded that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to let Rika be a lab rat any longer.

(It might have been best if she had remained adamant that Rika never be researched in the first place. Even if Satoko died, I'm sure it couldn't have been any worse than the rest of the worlds.)
