Is fishing Otaku Culture? Japan loves fishing, and it's always been a pretty big part of Japanese culture.

Fishing could be considered NEET culture since you can get free food and can take it easy.

Killing for food is a natural phenomenon.

I'm sure there are fishing otaku

I enjoy fishing but I haven't been in years. You can just sit and quietly think by yourself and wait for a bite.

My kind of outdoor activity.

Might as well drop the weeaboo lingo and say "fishing enthusiast"

>> No.9529737

I doubt it.
But I seen quite a few fishing threads at Nijiura, so maybe?

>> No.9529739

Do envy Japanese fisherman. It's probably a lot easier to find waters in Japan with consumable fish. The majority of lakes and streams here hold numerous different types of diseases and bacteria, you'd be crazy to eat fish from them.

When I was young I used to go fishing with my dad but I would get my hook caught on trees or tangled and I was a burden I could tell.

Except that the Japanese adopted it as a pseudonym for hikikomori, and being a NEET--especially on /jp/--does carry strong connotations of being a shut-in.

But whatever, you're the expert.

No, they didn't. NEET mean Not in Employment, Education, or Training. School refusal is a separate phenomenon and, though correlated, are not the same.

Fishing is NEET
you don't need any skills even if you never fished in your life
get one of those automatic spin ones that don't require live bait, if you want EZ-mode and just keep chucking it at the water until you catch something

>> No.9533610

>>9533596
I made a mistake in my post.

The Japanese government borrowed "NEET" from the UK because they needed a more politically correct term for the (by-and-large unemployed) hikikomori in Japan. I'm not saying they're synonyms, but to deny NEET carries connotations of being a shut-in is stupid. Especially in the context of /jp/. It's like denying "otaku" has strong ties to anime, manga and other Japanese popular culture because the word doesn't literally mean that.

>> No.9533622

One of the best parts about fishing is being loud will scare the fish so normalfags remain pretty quiet.

>> No.9533644

>>9533610
(A->B) is not the same as (B->A). While all Hikki are NEET, not all NEET are Hikki. Have a graph.

>but to deny NEET carries connotations
I didn't. I even said that they were correlated.

>> No.9533733

Its possible to fish like a wuss without spending any amount of money.
You can go find abandoned hooks with fishing lines around frequented rocky fishing areas.
If no weight is found, then you can just tie the line around a small rock.
This step is the hardest, finding and capturing an insect for bait. Any insect will do, but its preferable for a worm to be used. Hook the worm twice to ensure fishes don't steal away the bait easily.
You can either tie the end of the line thats being held by use to a firm stick or just hold on to it. Then place your attached hook into the shores of rocky water or green plant infested areas for your panfish.

Disregard all of the above if you are real man looking for a real sport and fish with your bare hands.
