ButaOtome's original album is sounding amazing. They always have some interesting new ideas, and Ranko has to be my favorite current vocalist on the Touhou doujin music scene.

Also, apparently, even though it's already the 9th in Japan, Minoshima can't be bothered to put album information on his actual site. He always waits until pretty late, but this is kinda weird even for him. It's up on tano-c though, and it looks...well, like an Alstroemeria Records album. Which is good.

However, Reitaisai 9 went really well. Although Remi and Hong were in and out, /jp/ anons did a fantastic job with the music spreadsheets and maintaining the upload and discussion threads.

Copyright is stricter in Japan than in the west because the citizens don't give a flying fuck about what the government is doing so IP lobby groups can pressure it into passing whatever bullshit legislation they want.

It's not particularly more free than in the west, but the attitudes are different - particularly in the otaku market, if you attack people(even though you legally could) who make derivative works, you risk upsetting your customer base.

But the big name properties don't have to care about it, so sometimes it does happen.

As someone who studies music as a hobby, and loves both Beethoven and ZUN, I'm a bit curious how you've come to this conclusion. Certainly, ZUN's style is almost closer to a composer of the Romantic period (Beethoven was just barely at the cusp of it), but I don't see any obvious influences specifically from Beethoven. At least, not in the same way, for instance, Dvorak and Holst tends to show up in John Williams.
