Following the trends, the most likely candidate is Futo.

Although i'd like to see Reisen get a playable spot. Maybe in a 13.5 game or something.

Assuming it's not going to be a Phantasmagoria game, Shou and Futo.

I don't think Futo has enough..."presence" to be a playable character in the next game. But now that I think about it, all of the playable characters besides Reimu and Marisa have been stage 5 bosses.

I still think it will be Kasen. It's too perfect of an opportunity for that not to happen.

I'd love for him to do something like Imperishable Night again, with teams and unlockables and stuff.

Suwako strikes me as someone like Marisa, who gets herself involved in stuff purely because she stumbles upon it and goes with the flow for fun. She'd probably drag Sanae along with her. Kanako seems more of a general, rather than someone who puts their hands in the dough.

Kanako is actually quite determined on gathering faith, which is why she moved the shrine to Gensokyo in the first place. If there was a direct threat to her shrine, (which there currently is), I believe she'd go. Suwako doesn't really care much because it's not even her shrine anymore. She just fought the player for fun, anyway.

And hell, if Yukari went out to solve an incident (multiple times), then I think Kanako would too.

Nobody would give a shit about Futo if it weren't for gaoo.

Reisen should just become a new playable all over.

I recently thought a bit about the plausibility of Futo appearing as a playable character. Before that I had dismissed it as absurd, but after thinking about it some, I realized maybe I was being narrow-minded.

She is a human, she seems to have a somewhat nosy personality, and so far she has been described as ultimately harmless. She's a 5th boss, and as a newcomer she does have her reasons to want to explore Gensoukyou, and she has nothing really holding her back.

I'd still be very surprised if she did become playable in a main game, but she's still the most likely choice since Sanae.

If ZUN chooses to make another Phantasmagoria game, I'm actually expecting Nazrin to be one of the playables. She seems like someone who gets around a lot, and it would be easy to think up excuses or reasons for her to get involved somehow.

I suppose the point is that Futo, at least, is still arguably human in mind. Her personality is somewhat peculiar, and she's accustomed to a world from 1400 years ago, but I realized her situation might not be too different from Sanae's.

Gathering faith is Sanae's job. There's some sort of loose theme that this is the time for Sanae to come into her own as a living god, and having the main god accompany diminishes that.

It's because she's the main enshrined goddess that she doesn't have the freedom to go traipsing around Gensokyo beating people up for fun. Suwako doesn't have to worry about her dignity.

I want Moko but there is no justifiable reason as to why she would be involved.

If 14 was another moon game, maybe they could have duos again, so they could have Kaguya/Eirin and Moko/Keine as playable. I don't see them ever appearing again unless the lunarians are involved.

To be honest though, if there's another game with pairs like in IN, I think it would be weird to see Sanae paired up with either Suwako or Kanako, even if Suwako would be the more logical choice. I'm not sure why exactly I feel like this, perhaps because both Suwako and Kanako seem like the kind of people to act alone, or because the relationship that Sanae shares with the two of them is a bit too different compared to previous teams.

Not that I can think of any other partner for Sanae.

Screw the rules, I want Kyouko. Screw plothaxes and powerlevels, in particular, Touhou needs a playable character who's an actual underdog.

If it's like IN with a buddy-system then I'd love Chen and Ran.

It would be cool if you could play as a weak Touhou character such as Wriggle or Rumia just flying around Gensokyo and battling people you meet. Sort of like Great Fairy Wars, only not with a stupid gameplay mechanic.

Renko was heavily implying that she is going to be the next protagonist.

Touhou 14 will have team-based characters. This time instead of human+youkai, it'll be buddhist+taoist.

Futo goes around solving incidents while Kyouko keeps repeating her and her opponents.

Ichirin and Unzan invite Seiga and Yoshika to their group. Unzan and Yoshika are shot types. Ichirin's options spread out lasers while Unzan keeps punching forward. For focused movement, the zombie ruthlessly attacks the opponent.

I've yet to come up with the rest.

Would be cool if Reisen could become playable again.

Hong Meiling could also be very fitting to become a playable character.

Her story could be based on her training or a dream sequence like in soku
