i honestly am torn on the wyu masks. wyu herself wears them quite well, when she doesn't do stupid stuff like not wear her zentai. but the big problem is most of the people she sells to don't know how to take care of them, or just don't give a crap about improving how they look.

Honestly I think Cici is probably the best performer who's bought a wyu mask so far.

I'd say don't give up trying to help newbies. Yes, some are (literally) too autistic to take advice, but so many more are well-meaning. I wish I could help out more person, because explaining really simple shit over the internet is difficult.

Too many people think a mask doesn't come with maintenance, despite the readily available information. Perhaps care/etiquette guides need to be more on the forefront? People NEED to know what they're getting into before purchasing a mask. A lot of recent folks don't even browse the japanese sites, so they don't even have a clue about what the best is supposed to look like. Their only mental idea of the hobby is a casual "act like an anime girl in chats and live stream with a mask on".

I think the western kigurumi culture needs to be shifted away from the direction it's gone in the past few years before a real improvement can be seen. It's not anyone's fault that some of the earliest Wyu-forumers decided to adapt honorifics and a naive way of behaviior. But people have to be more present in the community even if it means just increasing the amount of people who initiate good and constructive discussion. Letting them stew in their own banality won't help anyone and will only cause like-minds to feel right at home. Just my thoughts.

I think thoughtful discussion is important to any and every hobby. How can we look inside and improve ourselves without it? We are performers, and the chatrooms and forums are our backstage. A healthy artistic community needs available resources, tutorials, AND critiques. We have these things, but I believe they need more visibility.
I suppose one sticking point is that the community is slow, not much happens. The empty time zones between big projects get filled with nothing of meaning. We should fill that time with more discussion of suit acting, cosplay resources, wig-care, the latest from japan, personal performance philosophies, plans for the future! I'm not saying these discussions DON'T happen, they do... but it feels few and far between.

I'm not "trolling", I'm not trying to grief anyone. I simply have frustrations about this hobbyist community not feeling like a hobbyist community at all. It's important to have fun, but we can't prioritize the hurt feelings of the sensitive or a fantasy, escapist mindset over actually talking about what people need to improve. Actors are supposed to make a show LOOK like fun and games, but any seasoned masker knows what needs to be done behind the scenes (and behind the mask) to create a quality performance.

Does this look professional, clean and have a good flow throughout the photo? Arm warmers and cat ears can only do so much and can sometimes work against you. I'm the anon that said what was wrong with Cici's content. I'm not going to openly give anybody critique. After seeing how Cici acted after having the issues pointed out I feel it is pointless and a lost cause. If you try to help people publicly in this community you are made into a "drama" monger according to those who you try to help. Nobody really wants true critique in this community but the few who already aspire to be better. The others including most Wyu mask owners just want to circle jerk.

well, we could use a larger critical community, at least. forget the ones who don't listen. there are some who are plenty willing to listen, they just never get the chance to because no one speaks up. I've spoken to many members privately and they've thanked me for my honest input. I think speaking through more private means is the best bet for now, it avoids embarrassment and shows the recipient that you mean them well.
