The final boss isn't hard in late 50-early 60, and it's 3 large levels away. There is no need to grind anything in GoS and that's why i liked it. Everything is doable at low levels/randomly dropped gear.
GoS is the game about planning battles out (tho it's possible to overgear/level bosses, but is that fun?).

One tip for Kagami: mystic damage.

That's impossible. Not vs Kagami. Properly geared alice can survive Muscle Revolution, something like Hyper Fang Crusher can't be a problem. Even with shit gear.

Give her Slash Resistance gear, decent shield and armor.
Take Sanae. give her some IND gear. Buff Pdef and Eva (and MATK). Use Skydance formation(because you can kill 2 others with 7 chars easily). Ressurect important party memebers.
This is going to be a pretty long battle, because mystic damage is low in this stage of the game (and there is nothing you can do about that).

Actually, if you really have problems - use Aya + Sakuya. Make Sak move before the Kagami and use The World to skip HFC. Enjoy free win

Satori is just plain HORRIBLE at dealing physical damage. The best way I guess you could do it would be with a spear, enough points in its growth tree to reduce cooldown by one, all of the damage and attack buffs you can get to her learned skills, and even then all physical characters are still going to beat her even if she's using Acala Sword or another strong skill. She's much better for magic, as with enough points in Learning and Third Eye her basic elemental spells are stronger than Marisa's, and Demon Shock (which you can get in the SDM) is stronger than Byakuren's basic dark spell.

The patch boosts the drop rate of basic materials to reasonable levels. They're still rare, but you should consider yourself lucky to see them drop at all without it. It also boosts Satori's learning rate for a lot of spells by quite a bit. which is really nice, because Satori is a lot of fun.

>nothing happens and when I run it on Japanese local
Wrong.
Your computer needs to be set to Japanese local from the start, before you download it. Don't use applocale; it won't work.
You'll also need Direct X 9. Not 10, not 11, 9.

Why oh why did they have to replace the perfectly good GoS character sprites with these GODAWFUL derp-style sprites in DoD and this new game?

>> No.9475823

>>9475800
Not sure, but DoD's sprites make me not want to try it. Which is a shame, because I was excited when I heard Meiling was playable in it.

I hate that Aya, Alice, Reisen, Cirno, and Satori aren't playable characters in it, even though they were in GoS.

I just checked, and apparently Sakuya isn't either, even though Remilia and Patchouli stayed. I'm so disappointed right now. The game itself better be amazing.

Different sprite artist for the characters, I believe. If I'm not mistaken, he did either the backgrounds or the monster sprites in DoD instead.

Instead of strategy = power as in GoS, DoD is levels = power. Shit is fucking annoying, I had to stop and grind for 20 levels at a point in the post game since I was horribly underleveled since I beat the final boss at the level when the zone's enemies started giving reduced xp.

>>9475956
GoS really had potential for a good sequel, it's too bad we had to get this. I'll probably still try it when the english patch comes out, but I can't see myself playing it all the way through if it's as bad as it seems.

>> No.9475987

>>9475956
How can you say that levels are too important and then say right after that you were underleveled? You should be complaining about bad balancing.

>> No.9475998

>>9475987
That's true, I guess, but I could have been 20 levels underleveled in GoS and if I had the right strategy it'd work out. I could spec Sanae to heal & rez fast and heal & rez well, instead of this shit where the enemies either kill the healer or healee before I get to move, so if I lose a character I'm pretty much fucked since I can't revive her half of the time, and if I do she'll be at 1 HP. Alice could tank in GoS, now I just have to hope that party-wide death spell (this is fucking cheap, Tenshi) or explosion or whatever doesn't kill too many characters.

There's no way to outlast bosses with careful planning, it's just bumrushing all the way.

I beat Angra at around level 50 and had no problem at the early post-game. Then again, it might have been because I got a lucky Lesser Dragon and one-shotted all those Creepers with his fire breath.
The only time I've had to grind so far was to get a Great Demon.

I beat Angra at around level 50 and had no problem at the early post-game. Then I got to the arena where you have to fight two demons at once and had to grind for 20 levels to match them in power.

It's been a few months since I played that section, but... that's the one where you fight that Earth demon and he summons a Lightning demon, isn't it? I think my strategy for that was to equip someone with the Plasma Knife and Deathrider for using Blood Sword on the Earth dude. When the Lightning dude came out, I used that corn monster's 350 Power earth attack and he pretty much crumpled.

And I got to Mima and realized the game-ending combo of Rumia and G-3 using their elemental weakness attacks, and then using one of those 350 Power attacks. Pretty sure I did like 16000 damage in one attack, or so.

Aaand that's the final nail in the coffin for it in my book. Thanks, /jp/.

>DoD is levels = power.
That is not true at all. If you think that, you simply refused to take the time to organize a good shikigami setup. There is a lot more to fighting in DoD than buff, heal, attack, debuff, rinse and repeat. In fact, with the huge number of shikigami and skills, DoD requires a lot more planning, testing and strategy than GoS. If you have a good shikigami setup, you can breeze through the game. It seriously feels like all of this heavy negativity towards DoD comes from people who only pay attention to levels, and who wouldn't spend the time to read the skill descriptions, take note of passives and use the wiki to their advantage.

That's why I didn't like this game. It's already easy enough with a bad shikigami setup, a good one just makes it even easier.
