Why does every anime character have to be this hyperbolic caricature of whatever `sort of person' they are? A person in anime can't be organic and have conflicting tendencies - they must be wholly sweet, or wholly bitter, or apathetic or serious or playful and never any middleground. It's so unorganic and it accentuates, as I'm watching the show, just how *not* real life this is, and captures me in a bubble of meta feelings. It kills escapism.
