You don't go buying a 1980x1020 and bump it down to 1360x768(famous laptop resolution). Does resolution ever correlate to actual type of monitor? (TN/IPS/TFT)? No not really, but laptops usually use TFT which is considered the poor child of interlace types. If you're pointing out you cannot know for sure you are obviously correct, someone could be bumping their resolution down to something inane.
