I can't use Marisa in EoSD because she's too fast. She can move 10 pixels in just a soft press. It's very hard to graze Patchy and Flandre's cards in Extra with that speed. Her unfocus speed is great in many situations but when it come to some dense bullets situations, i can only bomb. If only her focus speed is only half of it.

I can't get past the first level on any Touhou on lunatic mode.
I can't get past the second level on any Touhou on hard mode.
I can't beat any single game on normal even with all the continues.
I have beaten Mountain of Faith once on easy, using all possible continues.
Every attempt I have made at Touhou I start with the maximum allowed lives in the settings.
I have been playing Touhou for a almost a year averaging 15-20 hours a week.

What are the chances I will ever reach an extra stage and feel the sweet taste of defeat on a whole new level? My current defeats mean nothing to me anymore.

>I have beaten Mountain of Faith once on easy, using all possible continues.

That's an impressive feat, since MoF has unlimited continues.

I'm not sure what to say, but I'll probably be like that in a few months (aside from the max lives things.) All the drive's gone, and after playing MoF's first level 100 or so times it has become a total chore.

Try playing 7,8,13 on easy. They give you good endings, which is encouraging.

Depends on how much you play. If you keep practicing (ie playing), you'll keep improving, and eventually start beating games. My first 1cc came about 6 months after I played my first round of Touhou, with somewhat sporadic playing habits. I cleared my third game about a week ago.

Mamizou is easy in certain ways, but a lot of her cards have tricks to them and I'm not sure how to do them. I'll figure 'em out eventually. On this latest run I think I managed to get her down to... three stars left?

Also, her nonspells get fucking CRAZY after awhile. Good lord, they start off being SUPER easy, but eventually they're just a slower Eternal Meek with MANY more, larger bullets. It feels like I'll HAVE to bomb them.

At least the music is particularly outstanding.

Start by going under the yellow bullets and then gradually switching to the green ones near the end. It's pretty hard to explain, so you should watch a few replays. Spell practice is your friend. Just remember that it is static.
>>9255580
I am going to Michigan on a vacation for the weekend. I will probably be back Monday, and then I will have school again until Thursday. I think that T is planning to stream during the weekend, and I'm sure that many great players would be tempted to stream if you ask them. I will only have my laptop and I'm not sure if I will have Internet. I've been playing hardcore lately, so it would be nice to have a break. Dodging bullets is hard work.
>>9255886
I don't think any of her nonspells are hard once you get used to them. You can also bomb to get trance. They looked very daunting to me at first when I started with TD Extra, but I don't think they are as tough as they look.

>> No.9258324

>>9255886
>>9257681

I messed with Spell Practice mode quite a bit, and it's hard to judge how useful it actually is. I mean, I've figured out the tricks to a lot of Mamizou's spells, but then I died like three times to her nonspells on an actual run. Also, while I can get through her spells in Spell Practice SOMETIMES, it's not consistent, which leads to deaths from overconfidence or something during my actual runs. I don't see a lot of those deaths coming, as the streaming you have to do for some of these spells is so fucking tight. I hesitate to use bombs because I think, "I can do this in Spell Practice, I can do it here!" and then I end up wasting bombs/trance to a death I would have NORMALLY avoided because I'd bomb out of fear whenever the streaming got so tough.

An interesting thing, though, is that I began to notice the input delay in TD. The difference between playing with the vsync patch and not is night-and-day for the pre-MoF games, but I didn't use the vsync patch at all for MoF and beyond because I couldn't tell the difference in control at all, and the screen tearing was bothersome. However, in TD's extra I kept dying to things that I really thought I avoided. I'd die, and something just felt... off, about the way I moved right before I got hit. Started using the vsync patch for TD, and things felt MUCH more smooth and I stopped having those weird deaths. Am I getting better for noticing the miniscule input delay when not using the vsync patch, or is the input delay slightly worse in TD?

Also, what do you mean by "You can also bomb to get trance."?

>>9258324
>Am I getting better for noticing the miniscule input delay when not using the vsync patch, or is the input delay slightly worse in TD?
It sounds like the vsync patch did help you. Every game with vsync will have at least some input lag.
>Also, what do you mean by "You can also bomb to get trance."?
You can't milk the spellcards, but you can milk the bosses in order to get spirits. When you get enough you can press C to go into trance mode.

If you just did PCB, I'd say you ought to go back and do EoSD. From there, you can choose between IN, MoF, and TD. SA is the hardest one to Normal 1cc, followed by UFO.

Vsync shouldn't cause more than a frame of latency unless you have strange hardware. The main point of the vpatch is to get rid of the 3+ (and I really mean +) frames from the older games, which apparently can be fixed by tweaking certain graphic card settings for some people anyway.

>> No.9264313

>>9264300
For some people, the timing is inconsistent without vsync, so the tear will not only travel slowly in some direction, it will jump around and be jagged on a frame by frame basis, which can be incredibly visually distracting.

Practice Murasa's stage more, I'm fairly certain you lost half your lives there. No, not Shou's, Murasa's. If you can't get past at least Stage 4 with minimal losses, you have no chance of 1CCing, whatever the difficulty.

Stage 4 is all about streaming, alot of your deaths and bombs were because you weren't able to properly stream or restream the bullets (ie. the section where the fairies shoot a fistfull of blue/red bullets aimed at you, which can all be streamed), and note that when the waves of wisps come which shoot both fast walls bullets and slow red bullets you can just stop shooting and stream the green bullets then shoot when left unharmed.
It might help to know that you can misdirect Youmu's first nonspell during her midboss and final boss appearance of stage 5, but you seemed to be fine with doing it eitherway.

Also, the spell card after it, where birds and dogs FLOOD in from the sides of the screen, feels rather impossible. Also, I'm trying to beat her MYSELF, without watching any replays of others.

Thanks for describing it as 'pretty hard', though. I was beginning to think that the other Extras were going to be damn near impossible for me, if Mamizou was considered 'easy'. You could also get away with another trance in the stage without bombing if you do it correctly. You gave me that fucking awesome replay of Stage 5 in UFO awhile back, and while it helped me greatly, I pretty much just ended up copying exactly what you did. Admittedly, the way you did it was pretty much the best way to do it, but I'd like to discover a way to beat this Extra Stage without relying on a replay. If I watch you do any part of it, I'll either end up copying it or just consciously doing something different just to avoid copying it, and I don't want either of those things. Tips, however, are always very much appreciated, and I thank you for them.

I gave up trying to capture Nue's second spellcard. I figure that I can get away with a Trance, that way I don't use any bombs, since Trance is regenerated much more easily than bombs are.

The Trance that I was actually apologizing for was the Trance used on that Amphibian spellcard that Mamizou has. That card in particular has always felt like luck; in Spell Practice, I can beat that card about 50% of the time without moving hardly at all, but I usually can never tell whether or not I need to move until it's too late. My point is, though, that it probably would have been better to use a bomb at that point instead of the Trance, since the Trance can do damage during spell cards and would have been more useful against one of the later spell cards. Bombs can destroy those frog danmaku, so one bomb would have sufficed to get me through that card instead of using the Trance.

All right, I will, but could you explain what you meant by "I would hold the resources dropped from Nue's second spellcard into the third, and then collect that along with the resources from the third spellcard by trancing them both."? How can you Trance both spell cards? How would you 'hold' resources?

>> No.9282533

Don't collect them. Keep the pink and green spirits there until they are tiny and about to disappear, then trance.

You get double the resources that you normally would from picking up the spirits.

With no trance, you get one resource.
With trance, you get two.

Also, you get to trance into more spirits if you want, giving you even more resources.

Shiiiit, I had no idea. That's neat. I'm not sure if there's a good way for me to utilize that information at all right now, but three extra lives and two bombs ought to be enough starting resources to take down Mamizou.

Also, TD's death bomb timer seems SUPER strict, compared to what I remember from EoSD and PCB. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I dunno about TD exactly, but it feels pretty short to me in UFO as well, so I'd guess it's something to do with the newer engine.

I've been trying forever to beat MoF on easy mode because I suck at Touhou, and I always wind up losing all of my lives on Kanako's 4th spell. I try not to continue. Any tips from someone who's beaten the mountain hag before?
Maybe I'll try it on normal, and see how far I can get. I doubt I'll ever unlock extra mode, though. Which is okay, because Suwako would horrible murder me anyway.

It is fucking infuriating how quickly things can fall apart. I was doing beautifully for so long! Using a bomb on that Avian card? Perfectly fine to me. On the Amphibian card? Also fine. But then I die to that nonspell and then die TWICE to the 'Monsterous School' card, which I have practiced the FUCK out of in Spell Practice, and there was just no fucking hope after that.

I'm trying to 1cc IN lunatic

I have reached stage 5 a couple of times today but i always start that stage with only 1-2 lives due to stupid mistakes in Keine and Marisa

also 3rd mystia's non spell is almost impossible to complete without using a bomb for me

>> No.9288907

>>9286012
I think it is pretty stingy, although the situation you described is pretty extreme. Focus on trying to get to stage 4.
>>9287992
I don't like the way you did Nue's third spellcard. You should barely move horizontally at all, and you didn't even milk her. You could have avoided that bomb, but it's still better than your last run. You don't need to stay on the bottom of the screen for Mamizou's third card. You got nervous and started dying after that. For her sixth spellcard, you have to remember to improvise. You were not in your ideal situation, so you should have found a way to extend the amount of time that you could have shot Mamizou, even if you had to use resources. What you did was hopelessly try to force yourself into an impossible dodge. Also, her seventh card is easier than it looks. You were just very nervous on it. There's not much to it other than dodging bullets. I think the stage version is harder than the overdrive version.
>>9288018
The bullet density on it is very low. You should be able to do it without problems.

Border team is a good bet, lots of homing and long deathbomb window.

You should play the magic team instead though, because they have the best dialogue.

>I don't like the way you did Nue's third spellcard. You should barely move horizontally at all, and you didn't even milk her.

Does it matter as long as I can consistently beat that card? The reason it lists my capture rate for that card as so low is because I'd be disqualified due to my Trance continuing from the second spell card. I don't see much benefit to milking her for spirits, unless it's possible to get enough for a Trance against the first wave of baddies that drop resources AND to get enough spirits AGAIN to Trance that last wave of baddies that drop resources. As it stands, starting against Mamizou with nearly four extra lives and nearly four bombs is pretty nice in my book.

>You don't need to stay on the bottom of the screen for Mamizou's third card. You got nervous and started dying after that.

Interesting, thanks. I'll experiment with it. I never really got NERVOUS until I was already dying a lot, hence my retarded ragebombspam on her seventh spell card. I expected that I'd have to use a bomb on her fourth card; clearing a card with a single bomb doesn't count as a loss to me. I've never cared about capturing cards or score; I just want to win.

It just seemed bizarre that, if you couldn't START a spell card correctly, that you couldn't EVER get in to the correct strategy. That though never even occurred to me; I just simply tried to get back into position and fix things. Trying to improvise a new strategy on a card where bullets are being fired at you from all points on the screen at the same time wouldn't have seemed like a good idea even if I HAD thought of it. I'll remember it for next time, though.

>Also, her seventh card is easier than it looks.

Yeesh, if you say so. I'll practice that card, but dodging fast, dense bullet fields from both sides of the screen at the same time seems like it ought to be EXACTLY as difficult as it looks, which is VERY.

Thanks for all your tips and feedback!

You do it in a more dangerous fashion that necessary and you miss out on spirits.

Nobody has a way of knowing that but you.
