English has several letters that were removed from the alphabet, however pronunciation remained the same.

Like when we removed thorn, "þe" became "the." They are still pronounced the same though, even though there is no more "þ."

I don't see why removing a letter means everything needs to be pronounced without the letter. Imagine if we just removed the "th" sound from the english language because we removed thorn.
