Eh, I don't think she's worse than any of the other girls. I've been enjoying the anime, but to keep things in perspective none of the *48 girls are that good compared to the big name seiyuu who are voicing the senbatsu members.

Whether people actually watch the show, though, depends primarily on Kawamori and Okada, not the seiyuu skill level.

There are two reasons they have actual idols in there:
1) Bring more idol fans towards the anime
2) Sell music from the anime to idol fans
With that in mind, Mayuyu is obviously necessary, and it would be a pants-on-head retarded business decision to include her and not push her.

Anyway, obviously Mayuyu isn't on the same level as professional voice actresses, but I wasn't claiming that the other girls were on their level either. I wouldn't hold her to such a standard but but I do genuinely think Mayuyu is the worst of the amateur voice actresses. Please don't misunderstand though, I do like her a lot as an idol and she even has quite a nice voice. The only problem is that she's pretty much the H. Jon Benjamin of AKB0048 in that while it's a nice and unique voice, it really is her only voice.

With all the talk of the anime going on now, this seems as good a time as any to ask.

I've been wondering about the idols like Nakaya Sayaka and Hata Sawako who've explicitly stated that their dream is to become a seiyuu, but did they ever give a reason as to why they became an idol to pursue that dream? Being an idol doesn't seem very conducive to becoming a seiyuu, unless there's some aspect of both existences that I'm missing.

Actually seiyuu's are getting somewhat closer to idols these days (many have fan clubs, solo singles, photobooks etc.). Other than that though, learning to sing (a lot of animes have OP/ED or character songs by the seiyuus) and control your voice, act and so on probably helps with their dreams, not to mention the exposure they get as idols.

I suppose a lot of them do it for reasons other than career progression, idols have an expiration date so it's not the most sensible thing to do from the point of one's career in the first place... many people are probably idols out of the love for idols, or because it's rather pleasant work that pays okay. Not compared to what you earn with a university degree, maybe, but for many of our idols that's out of reach anyway (with exceptions of course, such as Nakamata and Hata).

I hear Sawako has an engineering degree from university so I'd suppose if she can't become a seiyuu or runs out of seiyuu work she'll work as an engineer after she graduates.

It's not easy to become a seiyuu. You either have to attend a special seiyuu school/college, which are rather expensive, or be very lucky and succeed in some contest or agency audition, or reach that goal some other way. However, one thing is sure and that is that you are closer to becoming a seiyuu if you work in the entertainment industry than if you, let's say, serve customers in Denny's or work as a shop assistant in Family Mart (inb4 someone mentions something about a certain 17-year-old seiyuu whose initials are HI). For example, Mizuki Nana became a seiyuu only after trying to debut as a singer.

It turns out that it wasn't a bad decision in Shawako's and Sayaka's as well as Mayuyu's case, because all of them are now much closer to shaping their dreams into reality. Mayuyu and Shawako in particular seem to do a very good job in AKB0048.

This pretty much confirms the fan's expectations of a team shuffle (4 free places, 6 promotions).

I suppose for A they'll promote someone popular from the newbs, like Paruru, to replace Maeda.
For K they might transfer Yokoyama out to 4 or the to-be-formed team 8 for their ace.
For B, I hope they transfer Myao & Komori out, they'd shine better elsewhere. Also Amina back in A would be good so she could escape the B weight gaining curse.

Overall it's going to be tough to decide the teams though. You can basically divide the members into popular old, not-so-popular old, and then (the almost wholly not-so-popular) new. You can't transfer the older, real aces, like Mayu or Yuko, out of their original teams - and even if you did, there's barely one for each team and that'd defeat the purpose in that the newbs would end up becoming part of the not-so-popular old rather than the ace/senbatsu category - but creating new aces for 4 and 8 (and possibly A, since they're losing Acchan) won't be very easy either.

(The distributing old aces would have been a lot easier with Sashiko in, honestly. They could have just say, transfer Sashiko to 8 and Yuki to 4 or something, and every team would have their super-popular aces. Mariko can't really act as A's ace due to too much outside work.)

For the KKS promotions, some of the girls really deserved it, but I think instead of a "clean-up" promotion of 10-11ki they should have taken some of the most potential 12ki (Tomu, Sasaki & Hirata) as well.

What I hope is Aki-P has a new, original stage prepared for each team.

I caught the AKB48 thing because of AKB0048. Before, I had already followed Momoiro Clover strongly (before Akari left), and though I had heard AKB's music and watched their videos once or twice, specially Heavy Rotation, I had never been too much into them.

But again, I'm right in the middle of that first spurt of fan craze. I'm watching AKBINGO and AKB Motor Club, listening to the singles, etc.

But I just started watching that Mayuyu show, Sabadol, and... although I know some very basic japanese that helps me understand what's happening in simple stuff like AKB Motor Club if I watch it raw, it's not enough for me to get a full drama without subs. And I've only been able to find subs up to episode 3 of 12. I found korean subs and google translated subs... but as far as I've found, there have been no proper english subs released since february, when the subs for episode 3 came out.

Are there subs for the rest anywhere?
