Are you an otaku? Please respond.

>> No.9207740

Probably, but it's not something I'd self-identify as. Like "nerd", "hacker" or "gamer".

Posting in Otaku Culture makes you an otaku the same way that posting in a board named Japanese Culture would make you Japanese.

I think the moment you start defining yourself with ambiguous catchphrases, you stop developing as a human being.

You simply exist as that classification, and stop evolving because you have satisfied the genre.

OK, well, if I label myself as one thing or another, then I am seeking out definition by that term, instead of naturally cultivating my tastes based on an honest interest in those hobbies. This is what I either perceive myself as or aspire to be perceived as. All of that takes away from the purity of basic enjoyment of the hobby, as well as limits future choices you might make on pastimes that could satisfy you immensely, but do not slot in with the rest of the interests in your chosen label.

Otaku is a term reserved for people from Japan or at the very most a person who has fully experienced Japanese culture.

It's like identifying yourself as a cowboy because you own a cowboy hat, but you live in a huge city and have never even seen a horse in person.

Unless you are fluent in Japanese and have immersed yourself in the Japanese community (whether online or offline) then you cannot be an otaku.

Being an "Otaku" has nothing to do with being japanese other than the word originated from that country.Otaku is a lifestyle of a "hobby" becoming you "life" nothing more nothing less.

>> No.9210705

>>9210690

>Otaku is a lifestyle of a "hobby" becoming you "life" nothing more nothing less.

If you're a foreigner then you cannot use this word if you are not part of the Japanese community and the hobby itself relates to Japan.

There are dozens of words in English that mean the same exact thing and yet you use otaku to describe yourself. Why? It's like those people who sprinkle in foreign words into their sentences just because they think it sounds cool.

>> No.9210708

I'm otacool. Does that count?

The only ones I can think of are "nerd," "geek," "enthusiast," and "obsessive" and none of them mean quite the same thing.

1. That's because you've done more trolling in the last two days than you normally do.
2. You have absolutely taken more abuse in the last two years (minus these two days) than in the last two days, and not just retarded petty shit.
3. I have been asking you for a response to the same post for a while now, if you really insist on continuing this, but you will not.

but that's not true. sure, some people are like that, but you can just use a label as means of communication and nothing more. you don't have to go out of your way to conform it. label is meant to describe you for communication puproses, not limit you.

besides, you talk as if you don't use labels yourself. you do, even if you don't realize it. the 'otaku' label is only different in that is has negative connotations, but you can use it about the same.

I was an otaku, sadly I started going outside every other day for more than an hour.

I am now a dirty disgusting normalfag pig.
