My argument against the overload of Moe. (And why I believe characters such as Remilia and Flandre should be played darkly)

Now I'm not saying roleplaying your character as a catalyst for the Moe apocolypse as WRONG, you can play your character however the hell you want. But when I see official pages post things such as this:

It makes me want to burn down a church. You know why? Because Remilia would never be that "cutesy". If you're going to be an official page, at least try to take your role seriously. I mean come on, it looks as though half of the Touhou community are roleplaying the cast from Lucky Star.

Here are the reasons I believe a canon Remilia should not be portrayed as an adorable over-Moe, glomping equivalent of a plush doll:

If you look at the profile for EoSD, it states -

"She is respected by most youkai, but her charisma doesn't stem from her personality; rather, it comes from the fear that they have for her kind."

There it is in official writing, Remilia is FEARED. She is a vampire that most youkai respect and fear.

If you look further down to the Immaterial and Missing Power profile, it says -

"Faster than the eye can follow, strong enough to crush boulders, powerful enough tomanipulate demons, she's so strong it's almost not fair, so she doesn't care much for subtle technique.She may be weak against sunlight, but she has a pretty strong constitution, so as long as some bit of herstill remains, say, a little bat, she can regenerate any time. She's dreadful to have as an enemy, but she's not exactly the sort of person you'd want as a friend, either."

So now we've established she's a vampire who is feared, respected and powerful.

In the Doujin Silent Sinner In Blue, Remilia plots to start a war on the moon. During these events her character is fleshed out a little. She is devious, self-centered, manipulative and believes she is the strongest being in Gensokyo. She uses Marisa, Reimu and Sakuya as pawns in the battle so she could give herself a grand opening. This proves she has little regard for human life, doesn't it?

The only canon instance I've seen of her sounding like a moe character is when she meets Reimu in EoSD. Here's the text:

Reimu:Are you actually strong?
Remilia: I wouldn't know. I'm not allowed out often.
Remilia: Sunlight makes me weak.
Reimu: ... You're not just small fry, huh.

Now I don't know about you guys, but I interpret Remilia's response here in a very sarcastic way. She's mocking Reimu, I'd imagine her saying this with a smirk.

If you put these things together, being feared, respected, powerful, self-centered, manipulative, confrontational, devious, doesn't really care about the lives of humans, well I'd say that's quite dark. I can't imagine that kind of character glomping around and being super kawaii best friends with everyone she meets. She's prideful and pretty confrontational when anybody doubts her.

The Remilia I roleplay is the dark and classy Remilia I intepret. I don't understand how anybody could possibly take a moe Remi seriously. There are some great official roleplayers, but when the Scarlet Sisters are being played out as though they're completely innocent girls who want to run around and play with all their super cool friends, you know things are going to crap.

Those of you who have a problem with the way I roleplay or disagree with me about my views on Remilia, please let me know. I'd -love- to hear your evidence about her being a moe character. The official pages should be canon, and for Remilia and Flandre in particular they are not. But instead of fixing this, the admins are too busy with their Aya drama. *sigh*

It just frustrates me beyond belief when I see the most popular and official pages trying to turn such an interesting, unique character into the generic moe stereotype. *sigh*

Most of the official pages I personally feel just simply want "LOLMOARLEIKS" and as a result, stagnate and turn into shitty generic RPers. Don't get me wrong, some of them are brilliant. But the majority do not care about staying canon to their characters and these pages that represent the community, as you say have so many likes and people watching them, that a lot of people believe THAT'S how the characters actually are. And that makes the less popular pages look stupid, despite a lot of them being so much more capable.
