Why are people in Japan so scared of colds? It's just a cold.

They don't want to get it themselves/spread it it others.
Asians have weaker immune systems than people of European descent. They will take a cold harder than most of us on /jp/ would.
Missing social activities/work is near-unacceptable in Japan. They are a strict culture after all.
Japanese people like to look and be healthy; it's considered a pretty big deal if you are unhealthy.

Different culture, different history, different colds.

But your immune system is what causes all the symptoms of a cold. A strong immune system will only make you suffer more from it.
