It's about how confident you are about being able to do the job, and the qualification is either mandatory or beneficial and how experienced you are at dealing with things. When you get interviewed for a job, or when they read your C.V. they care just as much about how much of a dicklord you are as well. The qualifications are just a checklist, and the buzzwords they look for make it stand out more. They look at your personal section, and they ask you about yourself.

Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine you are the manager of a company and some fucking neckbeard walks in to the room stinking of cheap deodorant and talks like a stoner and when asked about his personal hobbies he shrugs and says he likes music and going out on the weekend partying. Does he sound like a tool?

Or if some doctorate applies for a job but he's got a really weird vibe and talks to you abruptly and you can't see him fitting in well, would you hire him?

TL;DR places that hire employees are like /jp/. You don't hire people that you don't get along well with. If you think they won't be able to take it easy, then they aren't going to get a job. You need to check off the boxes of what they are looking for, and be friendly, open and confident and good at communicating. Having interesting hobbies is a bonus.

P.S. It isn't all bad, there are actually places that ONLY employ people with assburgers. Their reasoning is that they are very conscientious and methodical and don't slack. They come in, do their jobs (very well), and leave and there is literally no drama to deal with. They are specialized with understanding and working with them.

Everybody is trying to climb the ladder, and sometimes people need a helping hand. I got my last job even though I didn't meet the half of the technical requirements. I still did my job as best as I could, and didn't slack off.

No, it was not a qualification, it was a technical requirement that I did not meet. I actually met 50% of it, and the other 50% was a skill that I learned over the space of a week of employment, which was the induction period anyway. It was my intelligence, willingness to learn and my frankness and openness at my interview that got me the job. I took it easy while working, and everybody was happy.

It doesn't mean they want you to be "a normal", it means just able to communicate well, do your job properly, be willing to learn and not cause drama. You are very correct, that most confidence is an act, but it does work, doesn't it? I think that true confidence is more useful, if you appreciate your abilities. Some places are like that, for example telemarketing companies. I had one once where there was a phone interview, and none of the things I was saying about procedure were fitting their checklist as they were asking the questions. It happens sometimes.

To also put more perspective in this, I've known people with solid managerial experience to send out hundreds of applications in the post and get a small handful of replies. It is very competitive these days. Older people are even having to go back to study things and retrain because of the state of the job market.

I'm someone who went from socially awkward NEET/hikki to having a full time job thanks to some string pulling from my grandpa.

When I first started, it was difficult. I didn't understand why people tried talking to me, or why I was promoted to have friends in the workplace. It took a few months, but I eventually opened upto my co-workers and now I understand. I can't really put it into words, but, it's very important you seem like someone other co-workers will like to be around.

And, just so you guys know, it's no secret I'm an otaku. My co-workers know I watch anime, collect figurines, go to conventions, masturbate to hentai, and am a virgin. A few are genuinely interested, and ask me questions about it. Some have even seen my room and thought it was cool, my figurines were artistic, ect.

Sure, there's a joke every so often, and I used to take them to heart, but you realize they joke about everything and really don't give a shit at the end of the day.

That's what's important: adaptability. You can't have some atfitude that you're perfect and don't need to change. We can all stand to improve ourselves, and knowing you have to without being negative about it is the key.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to get an entry level job in the federal government. All you have to do is copypaste parts of the job description on to your usajobs resume.

I didn't have a job until I was 24 but I was very dedicated to active but solitary hobbies and managed to make it into the income sweet spot for stable but stationary finances with a nice rate of plastic girl purchases.

I think getting into something like lifting weights (not curling, Olympic preferably) or long distance running helps. Employers in average joe fields can't appreciate the dedication behind writing programs and building computers and see them as the hobbies of misfits.
