That's a depressing rumor. I'm going to choose to not believe it considering the elections have just ended and it seems like prime-time for rumors.

Team K may be full of great members, but it's hard to think about a Team K without Sayaka around.

Watching Sayaka rank 20th may have been one of the more disappointing parts of the election for me. She seems to be really under-appreciated but at least she accepted it like a champ.

AKB has a LOT of songs (I think 700-800 or so), so it's quite guaranteed as long as you don't hate general idol/pop/rock-ish music there ought to be some song among them that you like. Of course, which songs you like will depend on your taste, but also perhaps on your knowledge of Japanese (whether or not you can appreciate the lyrics)...

Examples of some generally appreciated 48 songs, representing a tiny fraction of their total, will follow. I got it too. If you use VLC player, you can simply customise the timing when it gets wrong by changing the setting "track synchronisation". Usually it's offset by -30 or so because of ads that aren't in the video.

But I think idol world would be pretty chaotic if girls were allowed relationships, and it might actually be a worse place for the girls too. The girls are made as attractive as possible and need to live up to a "perfect girl" ideal, it'd be easy to see the business as pretty damn perverted if they were allowed to date.

The staff, their colleagues and their fans are almost all men, most of them older than the idols themselves. There's a lot of ojisans in the entertainment industry who are ready to jump on the chance of tasting young flesh. A lot of idols (even really young ones, case in point Kago Ai) have admitted they've been approached by older people in the entertainment industry, and there's lots of scandals about them dating older men as well.

Idol world with renai kinshi: yeah, the girls sacrifice a bit of their youth experience for their career.
Idol world without renai kinshi: young girls being approached by sleazy old men all the time, likely with pressures to sleep with them to progress in their career.

Though pleasing fans' fantasies may be a big part of it too, I think another reason for renai kinshi is also protecting the industry from such corruption. It protects the girls from their own attractiveness, and possible exploitation that could result. Of course this isn't a real concern for idols like say, Shinoda Mariko or Oshima Yuko, who are old and probably independent enough that they could survive in a world without renai kinshi, but you have to remember we have Matsui Jurina, Iwata Karen, Jo Eriko and many other fragile, young girls too. They'd have a hard time in a world where approaching an idol wouldn't be taboo.

If you want recommendations for CDs specifically (as in you want to buy them), start with all the albums, there's only a few of them anyway. If you're downloading instead of buying, well, just get everything.

Knowing Japanese helps a lot. I find that most people who have trouble with their names are the people who don't know Japanese that well. If you don't know any, first start by learning kana so you know the syllables. That already limits your memory & spelling mistakes a lot (you don't write stupid things like Mastui, Kasiwagi etc.).

After that it helps to know the meanings as well, because a lot of Japanese names are made up of common, meaningful words. Maeda is "front field", Ooshima is "large island", Kashiwagi is "oak tree" etc., when you know common surname beginnings & ends you mostly just remember [beginning word/letter] + [ending word/letter] instead of having to remember each letter. Applies to a lesser degree with first names.

That makes it a lot easier. Then just watch enough AKB variety to be able to connect faces and names. Oh and Iwasa Misaki and Fujie Reina are different people, that's a common beginner's mistake.

I found AKB48 Live SBD - 2012.04.08 BS Premium NETTAIYA.ts on my HD, can't even remember where I got it from. It's the same event but the quality is far better, sadly there are about 2hrs missing

Is there a full version of the SBD event in 1080p? The quality really seems a lot better, so I'd be glad if somebody knew something
